First time here and although the plate was hot, the food was NOT. Sent back and had to wait quite awhile for replacement. While having entree, a tartar appetizer was brought out. I didn't think appropriate after we already started the entree. For the price paid, I would have expected better. Service was alright as it wasn't server's fault. Did get glasses of wine knocked off bill. It was for our anniversary but the restaurant didn't really live up to our expectations for a special occasion.
The server that we had did very minimal work. She barely checked up on us and when she did, it was a monotoned voiced. I felt her service was not up to par with the standards and values of the restaurant. With that in mind, I gave her the tip that reflected her service and she was not too happy with that and she left abruptly.
I really enjoyed the restaurant. The staff were super friendly. The food was an amazing culinary experience, we had the 5 course meal with wine pairing. Would highly recommend for special occasions as the view is stunning
If it wasn’t for the view, the food would have been absolute atrocious. Too many things going on in the dish, no distinct flavour. Just threw everything at the plate and hope it sticks. Stay away from the fish, really really dry and salty.
Go up there and enjoy the view but eat somewhere else.
It's expensive and the food selections are limited. Some plates are good while some are not. The chicken and the beef are very good, but the vegetarian one left something to be desired. The service was very good. The view, of course, is amazing!
Great, picturesque view out of the large window. Service was quick and responsive and very accommodating and the food was quite good as well.
Amazing dinner. Amazing treatment. Easy parking. Delicious food! Loved Renata!
The food was excellent, as was the view. It was an anniversary celebration and the service and staff could not have been nicer. Pricing was comparable to other similar caliber restaurants; food presentation was appetizing and we were not “hustled” through our meal to make room for other diners.
Lovely view, the food was beautifully presented and tasted very nice.
Food and Services was great. The tasting menu was creative and delicious.
We ordered the Five Course Tasting Menu and felt the courses were quite similar in taste. Also, the red wine pairings were not appropriate.
Our impression is The Observatory relies on its location and view and doesn't feel it needs to compete with other restaurants for its food quality.
Good for tourists but not locals as other restaurants offer better food and value for money.
Excellent food in a great setting, the former is not always a given
This one my son's and I first time in Vancouver and I wanted to do something special for the last day of work/visit. The views were spectacular, ambiance was wonderful, the wine list was large enough to have a nice variety and our waitress and supporting group were great if not sometimes slow. My only suggestion would be have a little larger selection for the entrees. I booked the reservation for late evening and was not disappointed by the sunset and the city lights twinkling off the Bay. We also saw a Fireworks display that evening. If asked, yes I would return.
Great experience, food was very tasty and service was outstanding! It was my wife's bday and they even made a courtesy special dessert with a nice msg. That was so nice! Thanks again!
Chicken was soooooo good! Octopus appetizer was a bit chewy.
All of us enjoyed everything the food specially, the great view and the very friendly staff.
The service was great! The steak outstanding, but the halibut was a bit disappointing. All in all, the experience was good.
Door lady was very unprofessional but dont let it take your joy away as our waitress was great, overall experience was fair
Love this restaurant. Service and food are always outstanding. Refreshing menu, well presented and not the typical fine dining portions. Not huge, but fair.
On a clear night, there is no view like it anywhere!! Highly recommend for small, intimate celebrations.
When we first arrived, there was no one at the front and there were two other parties also waiting who said they hadn’t seen anyone yet. After 5 minutes, my husband went down the hall and asked one of the staff who was coming out of the dining room if there was supposed to be someone helping at the front and they said they would go find someone. After a couple more minutes someone came out and simply said they were about half an hour behind - did not ask for any of the group’s names and went back down the hall. It took about 20 minutes before we were seated - so almost 30 minutes after our reservation time of 8:30.
We were then seated close to the back with two of our three seats being able to see the view. While we were there, the two tables that had zero view asked to be moved as other groups left - wasn’t offered but the customers asked and it was not really done nicely, one staff person audibly sighed as they said they would have to go clean the table and then “I guess you could move there”. There really shouldn’t be any tables without access to the view in a place called the Observatory!
The food was very disappointing. We had the tenderloin that was dry, the halibut which was good but no sauce (a bit of crumbled chorizo was the only added flavor) and a very overdone salmon. We wanted to complain but as our waitress disappeared for 15 minutes we were just too hungry to wait any longer.
For a dinner that cost over $160, wow. Incredibly disappointed. The only reason they got anything was the view (for those that get to see it) and ambience of the restaurant was amazing.
Will never return to this restaurant and honestly would recommend people not bother - extremely overpriced for a limited selection of menu items that are not well prepared.
Beautiful food, very friendly and helpful waitresses who couldn't do enough for us. One of the highlights of our holiday in Vancouver and wouldn't have missed it for the world. The food was awesome and very individual and the trip up to the restaurant in the gondola was breathtaking. A massive well done to the kitchen and serving staff.
Our meal was excellent. I absolutely loved the buttermilk sauce on the chicken. The strawberry shortcake was very beautiful and tasted great. My mother enjoyed her salmon. Especially economical getting the gondola ride included.
Including the gondola ride in the price of the meal is a great idea. You are less likely to comment on the sparse menu and the noise! The choice of music was nice, but it was really loud. Your servers were great, the food good, the view, of course is spectacular - a great way to enjoy our west coast scenery with visitors!
A great place for a special dinner, the view is amazing and the food was excellent.
We arrived on time to the reservation and had to wait for 45 minutes for our table. When we were being seated we were told that we had a strict 2 hour limit even though we were made to wait 45 minutes. The server was excellent and the food is fantastic
We were here for my mom’s birthday, food is great, space is not big but very organized, employees are nice and helpful, they are all very friendly to my 1 year old son.
Great value with complimentary gondola ticket, view is very impressive
Our server Renata was absolutely wonderful. The service was great and the food was excellent. Obviously the view was not hard to take either.
Overall experience is good, but the food is not!
the food has to be tasty and special I think when you have a chef. Food was special but not tasty
Even though it was a cloudy day, service and ambient were exceptional. Overall very pleasant experience.
Happy with Everything but I was looking forward to my halibut dinner. Ate it but would never recommend or order it again- the worst halibut I’ve ever tasted. My husband steak was fantastic! If it wasn’t our anniversary I would have said something but we were happy with everything else so I did not.
Definitely a beautiful spot!
Great place, top food and awesome skilled service from Heidi for our big anniversary!
Great restaurant with amazing natural views.. I would like to recommend to couples and families to visit this great place... out of the world...peaceful.. love this place... must visit
We were visiting Vancouver from England and were highly recommended to try the Observatory. We were so pleased that we did.
We weren’t aware of the two resident grizzlies so that was an unexpected treat.
We booked dinner for 7pm and we were so pleased we had as the queue of people waiting to come off the mountain at 6pm was horrendous. There was only 5 of us going up and about 20 coming back down (not the 93 capacity!).
Our service was excellent as was the food, cooked to perfection by an international chef. We chose a perfect bottle of champagne with our meal too.
As for the views......stunning!
Not a cheap experience but so worth doing 🌟🌟🌟
We always take our guests from abroad to the Observatory for dinner. It is a great experience for them especially when they can see the view by daylight and after dinner by night. The quality was quite good in the past but we think it has even improved and is now really excellent in every regard. It might look expensive, but given that the gondola ride (about $60 per pax) is included in the reservation it actually is not at all, but it seems that people don't know. Enjoy!
Service was impeccable! The menu was magnificent. Even though we were late they provided us top notch service and did not rush us out. The view was magnificent!
Suggest anyone visiting Vancouver to spend extra time before making your reservation for dinner. Visit the Bear center etc.. Then watch the sunset while having your dinner.
The main course is good, but the dessert is a disaster, even after complaining to the server who immediately change the dessert with another one, and it is still a disaster. Next time order main course only and completely leave out the dessert, not worth the money. View is nice, ambiance too, and don't forget to claim the free ticket for the ride to/from the restaurant, when you reserve at this restaurant and pay main course for each person. Valid for 1 hour prior to the dining time.
Was great as always great view great service will return again
Just superb. Don’t just go up. Make a reserving advance and the team is free!
Great dinner. Cloudy nite but you can’t help that. Lol
