The Plume of Feathers
Monday - Sunday: 12pm - 10pm
Highly recommend. The setting is ecceptional and the food is very good.
Very disappointed with latest visit. Normally one of our favourite restaurants. Maybe it was a holiday chef. The chips are usually the best chips ever - completely changed to chunky oily skin on soggy chips. Fish was covered in garlic pesto. Service slow. After 20 mins of finishing meal and plates still not being cleared we called the waitress over to pay the bill. Got offered desserts as we were paying.
Good food as usual, lovely atmosphere, easy to park and a place I would recommend for any dining occassion.
Friendly staff who were patient with the kids. Really good food and a lovely atmosphere.
Pleasant menu and ok but not-very-enthusiastic staff with the exception of the vaguely hostile looking lady on reception who clearly very less than happy in her job. Food was desperately slow coming, and I write as someone who happily spends 3hrs over lunch. My wide had a 'Greek Salad' which had no cucumber, no green (or any other colour) pepper, no lettuce, but did have sun-dried tomato and an overbearing amount of dried herbs. Our four children (aged 20 thru 6) had a variety of dishes (Sea Bass, Mussels, Lamb Chops, kids fish & mash). Mash had a very sturdy cooked overcoat, I assume from being kept for an extensive time under a salamander. It was also caramelised having spent too long under heat and even offended the palate of my 6yr old daughter. Lamb chops (£17) numbered two and were both small and fatty. I had a whole Plaice which sadly had been annihilated by the chef and had the texture of cotton wool. By the time we'd been served mains we'd run out of time for dessert, though given what had already been served, that may have been a blessing. Total bill was £177. We've eaten twice as well for not much over half the price. There was a moment of amusement though as we walked to the car park, to see what appeared to be a moving bonfire crossing it, gradually resolve into the shape of the chef giving his vape some serious stick.
Great food, excellent service, good gluten free menu, and knowledgeable staff. Would recommend.
We had a lovely meal. The food was fresh and the menu tempting. Highly recommended.
Lovely place for get together with friends and good food and drinks friendly service we go here quite a bit with friends and haven't been disappointed also great for Sunday lunch.
Had a lovely meal on the steak night. Service was excellent. The venue is dog friendly which is a major plus in their favour for us. Would recommend it.
Met up with family for lunch and was pleased to see that balloons had been put on our table as I had said the booking was for a birthday celebration - much appreciated by the birthday girl! My husband was not too well and the girls in the restaurant did all they could to make him comfortable. He enjoyed his lunch and then went out and sat in the car whilst we had coffee. Thanks to everyone we had a lovely meal and time with relatives we do not see very often..
Delicious Sunday roast. Great pud. Hot day but lovely and cool inside.
We visit the Plume quite often and have always had excellent food and service but on this occasion we felt the Sunday roast was not up to the usual high standard . Everything was looking lovely meat, potatoes, Yorkshire, then the veg arrived vey disappointing all we had was red cabbage cream leeks and about 3carrots each not what we were used to . It will not stop us visiting the Plume but I hope in future the Sunday roast will improve .
Had a wonderful meal; excellent staff and service. Would definitely recommend, lovely environment and will be back.
Lovely food, staff very good even though it was busy we didn't wait too long between orders. We like going to the plume as its our local and will continue to do so.
We booked somewhere local to us in Mitchell and had dined before in the Plume of Feathers so thought we would play safe and pre book the night before. The on line booking was good although I didn't receive a confirmation until just after 5pm on the day of the meal. We purposely asked to eat in the bar area near a tv screen as it was England's 1st match vs Tunisia and the restaurant was promoting the fact that the football was being shown.
Upon arrival we were taken to our seats that was opposite a tv and thought this is ideal - the only problem was it wasn't on. After 4 or 5 requests for the tv to be turned on (all met with different levels of lacklustre customer service i.e "Ill get my boss to sort it ...who then 3 minutes later headed out of the door never to be seen again). I actually asked to be moved nearer the other working screen if the off tv could not be activated - the one thing I didn't want was to have to move halfway through our meal. Well the teams came out, hands were shaken and they kicked off still with us facing a blank screen. After several more customers asking for it to be switched on and after our starters arrived, guess what, we moved to another table with a partial view of the other tv - just the thing I was trying to avoid when I booked over 24hrs in advance. I know the football on the tv should not be the main reason for visiting a restaurant and almost seems rude to leave such a review but on top of the sports disappointment, my wife's house salad never arrived, my coffee almost didn't as "the ticket had been lost" and no one ever came over to ask how the food was or if everything was alright. Some pretty basic mistakes in the restaurant industry.
Good meal , pleasant service. Bit noisy overall most enjoyable experience for Father’s Day.
Very pleasant early evening meal. Quick and friendly service. Convenient as a central meeting place (one of our party came from Bude and we came from West Cornwall)
Streamlined online booking. Able to change table to the bar to accommodate friends dogs. Lovely menu with dietary requirements catered for (wheat intolerance in my case). Great looking pub with interesting well in bar. Would return in a flash. Highly recommended.
Beautiful place to have a meal; light and airy with well-spaced tables. Staff were friendly and happy to take ownership of a small error with our order, which was quickly rectified. Food was nice, made with fresh ingredients.
Eaten at the plume before but never on weds for steak night , great food and as usual great service 👍
Lovely lunch. Roast dinner. Staff attentive and friendly. Fab time and I will be going back asap!
only problem with our visit was how hot it was in the conservatory need more blinds
it was very hot and we were pleased to sit in the garden after our meal
I know we don't have the extreme heat very often but it was uncomfortable
Thank you for making my wife's Birthday a lovely occasion.
We had a wonderful meal and enjoyed our drinks.
Nothing was too much trouble for the staff.
Very polite and friendly.
I particularly enjoyed the sticky toffee pudding, will be having that again!!
Would highly recommend and look forward to booking again soon.
Thank you all.
First time here.Food could have been served hotter, that was the only complaint though. Nice restaurant not that far from home.Wide choice of food, will probably go again
Excellent as usual !
Always a safe bet for a good meal !
Great food and excellent service - thanks! One of our party is lactose intolerant - they were well catered for. Menu could be a little more extensive and prices could be a little lower
Love this place. There's different seating areas if you want a quieter spot away from the bar which has a tv. Great food with a changing menu - and a mean cocktail/mocktail.
Lovely tasty food that was great quality. We were attended to really quickly by friendly staff who were really helpful.
Will be lovely to return with a large group of family members for mums 70th in a few weeks!
Have already recommended it’s worth a visit to friends!
The food is always good and a bit quirky. So good to take a friends or family for an interesting meal in comfortable and welcoming surroundings.
We had a really good meal at the Plume of Feathers. I enjoyed a delicious burger whilst my wife had a traditional roast. The meat on her plate was of very good quality - none of those dry, conveyor-belt type slices you sometimes get at places.
Being able to bring our dog was very helpful, and though this limited us to the bar area, this was quiet and cosy, lending the perfect ambience for the final meal of our holiday. My only reservation would be that the drinks were perhaps somewhat expensive - as far as I remember, I paid over £5 for a gin & tonic - but the overall experience was very satisfying, and the staff were all very polite and helpful. We would certainly come back again!
unfortunately there was a long delay in our main courses arriving which spoiled the evening to a degree. No explanation or apology was offered even though we did ask about the food and was told it was on its way. Also one of the starters was small and therefore overpriced. Disappointing as have had good meals in the past.
Good choice. Very reasonably priced main courses particularly. Tasty desserts.
Average service combined with a sweet called 'mint chocolate selection' which at £9.00 was poor value and even worse taste and so the sweet should be avoided.
This is a shame because we have eaten before at this pub/restaurant and have been pleased.
As frequent users we like that staff remember who you are.
Only one occasion have we felt the need to inform them that all was not well with a particular dish.
That was fixed immediately with a smile and goodwill.
Booked a table for 6 people for Mother’s Day only to find we had been squashed onto a table for 4. It was so small we had to have glasses and plates removed from the table as there simply wasn’t room for everything. Larger tables were free and remained so all evening. Also, whilst not a major problem, I was sorry to see that the cloth napkins had been replaced with paper and the lovely colourful uniforms for the staff had gone.
We had two lovely meals here during our stay in Cornwall. Both times the food has been incredible, the atmosphere is lovely and you cannot fault the staff. Such a lovely pub!
Very good roast beef and plenty of it. The Yorkshire pudding were a little overdone, very crisp. The white chocolate brulee did not taste of white chocolate it was however a very nice brulee.
Inside of the pub area where is cosy and darker the waiting staff uniforms look dowdy and unflattering, far too masculine for the female staff.
Overall a pleasant experience, fast service, more gravy delivered within seconds of being requested and attentive staff. Well done.
Fantastic tasting food and service just busy so bit of a wait but we'll worth it
Great night! We came for my mums 50th birthday. Balloons already on the table for us without us asking. The young girl who served us was lovely and the food was amazing. Thank you :)
