The Press Gang is a wonderful restaurant. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The food was excellent and ambiance was lovely, especially on a chilly night in Halifax. There were a couple of issues with the service: the server put in the wrong order for our first course and then forgot who had ordered what when the main dishes came--neither of which are big big deals, obviously, although both incidents did feel like noticeable interruptions precisely because the service was otherwise extremely good. Overall, definitely worth a visit, particularly if you're in the market for quality without pretension.

We had Tbe Drift. It felt the chefs were trying too hard... be more simple but still tasty. A lighter2nd course in The Drift would have been better. The service was terrific. The ambience is lively.

Our first time to the pressgang, and it won’t be our last. From the front of house and the wait staff, the service was incredible. My husband is not a big fan of raw oysters, and he was convinced last night that they are indeed a delicacy. We chose a variety of oysters from across the Atlantic region, and we were not disappointed. Our main courses were truly spectacular, both our meals followed by a decadent dessert were second to none.. A visit from the chef was a delightful surprise. Our waitress Julia was attentive, friendly, and very knowledgeable. I think the pressgang is just become our new favourite place in Halifax.

Our reservation had us originally seated by the busy doorway, the hostess graciously found a table for two tucked away in a quiet area. Food was delicious, well presented and wait staff attentive. My favorite was the delicious crème brûlée! Highly recommend a visit to the Press Gang

My daughter and I were seated in the back which was nice and more quiet than the front of the house but a bit romantic for us especially with love song after love song playing. We laughed about it.

We visited here on a Saturday night with friends. Having reservations is definitely recommended and of course we did. It is a rather busy location. Our server was Marilyn who told great care of the 4 of us. Very knowledgeable about all the menu items. We ordered wine while we discussed the menu. When the wine arrived, our order (after some discussion with Marilyn) was taken. Apps arrived quickly and was very well presented and prepared. The mains arrived after we had finished our apps and again, well presented and prepared. The only issue was that the server who brought the mains (not Marilyn) did not know who had the medium cooked or the medium rare cooked steaks and gave to wrong people. Perhaps a little more attention by the servers is required. Other than that issue, the meal was excellent. The desserts came shortly after the mains were finished and were very well presented as well. Overall, this restaurant has an abundance of atmosphere, had live music playing that was not overpowering. It was one of the most pleasurable meals we have experienced in quite some time. Kudos to the staff. Cost wise, the prices are reasonably for what you receive and the service. We will definitely be going back.

Wine list by the glass is sparse. Only one size offered (5 oz). Salad course was lovely. Rib eye main course was not cooked to order. Husband asked for medium rare, I ordered medium. Both plates were served rare. When comparing meal and experience to final bill, we both agreed we'd visit another restaurant next time.

Beautiful restaurant, great food. The only reason I am giving a not great review is because of our server. He was incredibly rude and made us feel as though we were annoying him the entire time. Otherwise we really enjoyed the food and the restaurant (especially the piano player upstairs)

The experience did not disappoint. Service was exceptional. No detail was overlooked from seating throughout the meal service, cocktails, wine selection. Food was outstanding from appetizers, main dishes and desserts. The server was very attentive and knowledgeable of menu items. Each course was was delivered in a timely fashion. Highly recommend restaurant.

A delightful and historic fine dining experience befitting the community and the cuisine. We stood attention for The Drill and let the Chef captain our culinary corvette on a creative four-course journey. By the time the mainsails were set, we were already full yet eager to try the next delectable surprise dishes. Blaze was our first mate and ensured we were well taken care of and appropriately lubricated for our gastronomical adventure. It’s a day later and we are still happily satiated and eager for a future trip.
