We went to the Root for a late Sunday brunch. The menu is quite unique. I had the tofu scramble and my boyfriend had the quiche. We both cleaned our plates. The only disappointment was that they were out of the cinnamon roll, which I really wanted to try for dessert.

Food has been declining from fabulous to mediocre for some time now. My steak had way too much gristle for it’s $32 price tag.

Extremely limited menu. Was looking forward to some of the items shown on the website, but none were offered. Settled for the ribeye but it came drenched in cooking oil which spread to the chard and scalloped potatoes on the plate. Hardly edible. Creme Brulee was not like anything seen before. Vanilla pudding covered with cocoa dust. Not good. Service by Chris was excellent.

Overall the food was very good. Server didn't describe some of the specials very well. I based this on being able overhear the specials being described at another table. The fish special, when described at that table, was entirely different from what we heard. Not a big deal, but kinda felt as if we missed out on something.

Restaurant was too cold to our liking; in general, food was good. Service was extremely attentive. Ate late in evening, near closing so most customers had already departed.

Have eaten here a number of times and always have had a great meal.
Only slight issue was the steak was more medium well than medium rare.
Crab cakes and Scallops are fantastic.
Cheers

After our first visit last week, and all the bragging we'd done about the food, the servers' great level of knowledge about the farm to table style, and all the ingredients in their presentations, we just had to bring her dad and our nephew, who is a bonafide "Foodie!" As expected, The Root did not disappoint in the least. It's a bit of a drive for us, but when you've found a gem, you seem to enjoy the passage of the time it takes to get there because...you're getting THERE! The reason we first went was because of the reviews...hundreds in the 4.5 to 5.0 category. Hundreds of diners can't be wrong. Include us in with that large number, then experience this wonderful restaurant for yourself. You'll soon be writing your own glowing review!

Beautiful decor, nice wine list, interesting cocktails. Restaurant seemed short staffed, but, having said that, our waitress was very good. It would be great to see the menu switched up a little.

We love the fresh menu, but my fried chicken was a bit dark which made the inside dry. And the waitress was know bd if curt, not completely rude, but harsh.

Spicy shrimp although delicious, way way way way overpriced! 24 dollars for the amount and a few pieces of salad to put it in is definitely not ok.

We went for the first time to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Food was delicious, was surprised how casual it was, but that didn't bother us. Great wait staff! Dessert choices were wonderful and not the run of the mill! Looking forward to going back again!

I very much enjoyed my meal here. My only negative is the lack of gluten free entree. I ended up having a burger with no bun which was delicious, but they pride themselves on healthy and none of their entrees were gluten free. They had many gf appetizers though.

The Root restaurant is the best food in Oakland Co as far as we know. My husband and I have been going since the opening. Their bartenders make OUTSTANDING specialty drinks like the walking dead :) so very good and we have NEVER had bad serve or food!

I am torn about leaving an honest review......you might get sooo crowded that we won’t be able to get a table next time.....we travel from Brighton and the food and service is sooo worth it. Glad they take online reservations for any number of guests, not just parties if 8 or more.
Decor acoustics food and service....top grades.... pat from brighton

We had not been to the Root for a few years, but it was as wonderful as we had remembered. We went for our anniversary and they gave us each a glass of champagne and we shared a dessert on the house. Our food was spectacular as well as our service.

We arrived post movie. I had been in the day before with my son that recommended the craft cocktail experience ..and that didn’t disappoint. Matt was our bartender and was an excellent host as well as highly skilled in the art of craft cocktails.
As a result of this pleasant experience, I decided to return the following evening (Sat.) with a guest and made dinner reservations. We were sat right away which was wonderful and immediately attended to by an assistant to the server. After 10 minutes, however, of nothing more than water on the table with a restaurant only partially filled with guests, my friend went to the front desk and asked if we even had a server at all.
The server ( Chris B) who finally arrived stated the reason he didn’t realize he was supposed to be waiting on us was (quote) “because the restaurant is so slow they cut down the number of servers and nobody really knows what section they have so even though I saw you sitting there I didn’t bother till somebody told me to take you. What would you like to eat? ”. He was abrupt and unprofessional, at best, start to finish. We spent close to $300.00 and are unsure whether to chalk this evening off as a fluke or just never return.

Our 3rd time at this restaurant. My fried bologna sandwich was outstanding. My husband's rib eye was "so-so" ....not terrible but not great either! We were disappointed with the limited menu. ..no cooked, only raw fish. Great staff. Liked Princess Aurora!

We went for a birthday party (5 in our party) and had a wonderful time. Chris was our server (have been served by him before and always wonderful) food was fantastic, and all around great service service made for a fantastic experience.
I’ve been here many tines before, for date night, lunch, or dinner with the girls, and one of my favorite place to dine.

Nice atmosphere, good brunch menu, and an excellent Bourbon for Breakfast cocktail. Would recommend The Root Breakfast Sandwich, the Quiche was a bit dry. Service was pretty good and an overall positive experience. Would return and recommend to others.
