The Root Restaurant & Bar Ratings and Reviews
As always, The Root never fails to offer creative meals, local options, and a very knowledgeable waitstaff!
Great, as always.
The Root always has a great menu selection of seasonal flavors and a welcoming knowledgeable staff.
Absolutely love this place for lunch, dinner, or brunch. They have a great selection of soups, salads, appetizers, main dishes and vegan options. They have excellent service.
Several of us had the best brussle sprouts salad and agreed it was fantastic. We'd go back just for that salad!
Great Place In Every Way But Would Like To See An Even Larger Wine Selection.
Fantastic, consistent meal. Always something new and creative on the menu. A bit of a drive from Detroit but always worth the trip.
First date. Great place
We LOVE The Root! It's our "go-to" choice for dining in White Lake!
Another great meal at the Root for New Years Eve! Best steak, pork belly and salmon!
The food is very good. The lobster bisque brith has a great flavor. Scallops were cooked perfectly. Buttermilk chicken crispy on the outside and tender/juicy on the inside. Warm beet salad was delicious as was the Brie puff pastry! Great indulgence to celebrate New Year’s Eve
New Year’s Eve dinner with family and friends.
This was our second time at The Root and it was excellent yet again. Love it here. Will definitely come back. Such a treat.
GreT food & Atmosphere. Our server was attemtive & loved the reminders of this reservation on my phone..
The way the chef prepares his dish make anything taste good. I have eaten foods I would normally snub my nose at (vegan dishes, Brussel sprouts, foie gras) and loved them. Try something new! You’ll love it!
The restaurant was noisy not cozy or intimate. The service was ok. The meal was at best average. Poor presentation or playing, potatoes on the cold side. The greens (Kale) was very tough. Dessert was complimentary since it was our anniversary. This is always a nice touch. There is too much competition around for restaurants for this to be an average destination.
Perfect place to meet friends. Service and food was excellent.
Over priced for the quality and quantity of food and ambiance.
Very good food. Very accommodating to food allergies
I always LOVE the Root Restaurant, although I NEVER get the steaks. This trip I ordered the pork chop with spaetzle (which was magnificent), and at 6:30pm they only had the one pork chop left, so my husband and our friends all ordered steaks instead. All 3 of them complained that their rib eyes and strip steaks, while tasty, were so gristly they were unenjoyable. My husband has complained about this before, but thought maybe it was a fluke. Moral of the story: don't order the steaks!
Always a fantastic experience. Our waitress was amazing.
Had the shrimp tacos and soft tortilla shells had a stale taste. Very unusual for Root. Been there many times and this was my first disappointment. Everything else was excellent
I thought the tasting menu was excellent. My entree was a little overdone but the choices on the tasting menu or phenomenal. We had a great time.
Service was TOP NOTCH- Chris was an excellent waiter! Scallops, YUM, Banana Cream pie, YUM, TO DIE FOR marshmallow on top of the pie (like crème brulee topping.... Cannot even TELL YOU HOW GOOD THIS WAS!!!) Will return again! Perfect meal!!
My daughter and her husband were visiting. He's a foodie with gluten allergies. I'm a vegetarian. My husband is suspicious of anything overtly healthy. We all had wonderful meals and a lovely experience. Local foods are featured -- yay!
Appetizers, sides, main dishes and desserts are all exceptional! Beautiful atmosphere and one of the only restaurants that is quiet. My FAVORITE place and it’s a 30 minute drive for me but we’ll worth it! Don’t miss out on this one.
We both had the tasting menu, one with the wine pairing and the other with the beer pairing!! All the food was imaginative and tasty. Choices were allowed with each course so the seafood eater and the seafood hater were both happy. The pumpkin cheesecake with blueberry compote was an interesting pairing and was delicious the next day when we could have room to eat it! Server was knowledgeable and non-smothering.
Always worth the trip. Menu always changes, but always great!
Great as always! I love getting the tasting menu with the wine pairing.
This was a disappointing experience. Knowing the Root had been Michigan's restaurant or the year in the past we expected much more. My partner has a chicken dish which was bland and I , having had a late lunch followed the recommendation of a couple at the next table to have a fried bologna sandwich. Dumb, I know, but I was not that hungry and found nothing tempting on the menu. Definitely not worth a 25 minute drive.
We've never had a bad experience here. Food is always amazing and the service is great.
I hadn't been to The Root in many years. It was my pick to celebrate my birthday. Service, food, cleanliness, and atmosphere did not disappoint. It was perfect in all ways. We will definitely be back again.
Always great food!
Very pleasant w no wait :)
We want to like the Root - the menu looks amazing to us...amazing! However, the past two times we’ve dined there - our meals were way too salty. Also, my mushroom entree was served at room temperature- disappointing. Bartender was great...the younger server seemed inexperienced...
We had the tasting menu with a wine pairing. This was our third time having the tasting menu. I seem to remember the tasting menu being inventive and different than the regular menu, but now it is just allowing you to pick different items off the menu in 5 course fashion. Was more impressed with the creativity before but the food is still high level. Everything is always perfectly cooked. The seasonal flair is always fun and delicious.
Menu includes locally obtained materials made in unique dishes with nice presentation. Server was helpful in suggestions and very attentive throughout the meal.
I had not been to Root in a while, primarily because we held my daughters graduation dinner there, and it was terrible. Even worse, it was my recommendation for that dinner because of all of the positive experiences I had had in the past (that, and my daughter is a foodie who had high expectations).
I am very glad I went back. Everything was great, including the special rabbit stew. My thai chili shrimp tacos were also extremely flavorful. I plan on returning!
We ordered the pork chop and crab cakes and it was an amazing choice. Along with the fine food our service was wonderful. Thanks for the great experience. We will be back.
Always fantastic food & service. The special soup, fish, cocktail and dessert are never a gamble. Try something new, you won’t be disappointed.
