The Salmon House
The Salmon House is world renowned for its fresh seafood and comprehensive BC wine list; accentuated by breath-taking views, warm comfortable surroundings and native art decor.
While the food tasted good and our out of town guests enjoyed the food, the plate was warmer than the food and our server was forgetful and made errors that took away from the overall experience. While I have eaten here prior and the experience was great, I will look at other options next time.
I was happy to bring out of the country guests with me.
I have been coming to Salmon House since the mid 70s.
Things are different, food is not what it used to be and the overall attitude is not
exciting me as it did many years ago.
Unfortunately we had a poor experience. We had a long wait for our meal.
Sadly, the quality of the food has gone down. For a restaurant that prides itself on its seafood, it was quite disappointing to find that the halibut had been overdone. Both my wife and I ordered a halibut dish and both our dishes were overdone. Disappointing - think we'll stick to other restaurants going forward. The only saving grace was our personal relationship with Checo, who provided the live entertainment for the evening and was the main reason that we went to the Salmon House.
We had a wonderful experience. I had requested a window table but none were available so our hostess showed us 3 tables which still had a great view and gave us our choice of table.
Everything we ordered was amazing. It was all made wonderfully and we had zero complaints. It's definitely a restaurant I'd love to come back to again.
Lovely view and food was very delicious
One of the best meals I’ve had in a long time with the fine dining atmosphere I was looking for. Definitely will be back for a special occasion.
Lovely place for all occasions. Entertained family from New Zealand. Loved the food, the atmosphere and excellent service. Our go to for those special times
I enjoy the relaxed feel of this restaurant – like a comfortable dining room in my place. I definitely would return to try different dishes or date with someone else.
The food and service weren't great (they also ran out of multiple course options from their own pre-set/mandatory menu) however it was New Year's Eve and they were likely very busy. We'll give the Salmon House another try for cocktails or appetizers, as the views are spectacular, but the the quality of food and service we received didn't match the prices.
Overall the food and atmosphere was great. However, we were forced to pay an 18% percent gratuity (for 2 people) that was not disclosed when we booked, which added another $30 dollars to the bill. Besides that, no complaints.
fantastic food service and food
we had ealy seatinf for new years eve
it was a good menu ans reasonably priced
Friendly service . Great atmosphere. Great selection of wines
Very good service. Excellent starters. Would have liked more vegetables with the meal. Had the salmon trio and far preferred the sockeye. It was our daughters birthday, might have been nice to have a token recognition as we mentioned it in our reservation.
A lovely place to dine. With numerous choices on the menu, there is something for everyone. The salmon and halibut we ordered was done to perfection. A most enjoyable evening not to mention the awesome views.
Returned after many years for dinner with family and enjoyed it just like before. A very diverse menu and the view of Vancouver from across the bay is incredible. Good food and great service.
Everything was fine, except for the whole point of dining there - well-prepared fish! Our sock-eye salmon and halibut were both disappointing. Over-cooked and bland. Very disappointing.
As always , fresh seafood, cooked to perfection. Service, view and food was great and worth the money.
We reserved a table at The Salmon House to celebrate our anniversary. The panoramic view of the Lions Gate bridge and Vancouver is spectacular. The staff are friendly and welcoming. The tower for two was full of fresh seafood. Each level was a taste treat. The Bouillabaisse was exquisite, the lobster, scallops and asparagus cooked to perfection and the crab salad, salmon candy and ahi tuna were all delicious. Our waitress was extremely attentive. She helped us decide what desserts would compliment our meal choices.
They surpassed our expectations. We will definitely return.
We love coming to this special place.
Prices are getting higher so we can’t come as often as we would like.
Wonderful views and ambience with great staff and service.
We celebrated my father-in-law's 92nd birthday and it was the perfect location for this event. Food was excellent and the breath-taking view makes it a unique Vancouver experience. Very importantly, our table was private enough and it was sufficiently quiet that we could have a good conversation throughout the entire evening. Overall, it could not have been better.
Good food and service but on the pricey side. Would be better overall value if they provided corkage
The menu has been expanded and improved over the past two years. The restaurant has fully reclaimed its position as one of the traditional gems of the greater Vancouver area.
Good food great views. Would try for lunch to see the daytime view .
I go to Salmon House on the Hill once every few years, reaffirming each time why I don’t go more often.
Great ambiance, stunning views... Perhaps the management hopes you won’t notice the average quality of the food.
Tonight was a special occasion that the restaurant destroyed with dry over cooked salmon scraps in “the Trio”, and an unmentioned chili spice coating the tuna in the Tuna Takati Special. (I am allergic to chili. After being bent over double, am now in bed at 9pm. Our dinner was at 6:30.)
The Restaurant covered the cost of one meal and gave us complimentary dessert, so they realized their error, although the waitress still didn’t understand by the time we departed.
Failing to mention chili as a spice thoroughly coating their “special” tuna dish, will keep me away for another few years...
So my parting rhyme is “Make sure Salmon House on the Hill does not make you ill”...
Exceptional in every way. The decor, the service, the food is divine and the wood burning aroma is amazing.
Truly wonderful and by far our best evening out lately, excellent for a special occasion but we already plan on going again for just a night out.
Thank you very much,
Michel and Sylvia
Amazing! Views are incredible from almost every table. Menu not too overwhelming.
Wouldve given food a 5 but i decided to try raw oysters. Kudos to those who like them. A once in a lifetime, not doing that again. The salmon was amazing. Next time i will get just salmon. Oh and affogato for dessert. Superb. Presentation of meal and dessert, stunning. Service was amazing.
too bad the service was so slow - otherwise terrific fish and seafood
We enjoyed our time at The Salmon House very much. The food selection was excellent & both our meals were prepared perfectly. Our server was very helpful in navigating the options as well as recommending various wine pairings. The atmosphere & view were also amazing.
Enjoyed a wonderful evening with our son and daughter-in-law. Amazing food and service and fantastic views. Would definately come back again!
Beautiful view of the city. Needs an update badly. Hasn’t changed much in 30 years. Food is good, service is slow to medium.
Nice atmosphere, awesome view !
Great wine list and great food!!
The server was exremely pleasant and knew her wine and great when you called upon her.
Great 89th birthday dinner & evening provided by outstanding staff !
Thanks especially to our great server Wednesday evening !
It’s hard to go wrong at Salmon House. Although it’s been years since we’ve been there, our recent dinner was spectacular. We lucked out on the 3 courses for $30 week, which was squash soup or Caesar salad, a trio of salmon, halibut and prawns on mashed potatoes/veggies and a mouthwatering dessert of little pillows of cherry filling with a scoop of gelato on the side. It was an amazing dinner, view, and service. See you soon, SH!!!
Delightful dinner at the Salmon House on the Hill for our anniversary. Group of 4 - all enjoyed our meals (beef tenderloin, sable fish, large seafood tower) and found the service excellent, but unobtrusive. Only small complaint would be the king crab leg in our seafood tower was quite small and rather sad looking.
Came here partially for the quiet ambiance and for the view - both of which, thanks to a clear Vancouver evening, were just as hoped.
We’ve come for years and are now never coming back.
The pricing is ridiculous and the food is not special
The only thing going for this old institution is its layout and views
Otherwise it’s a rip off!
This is a fine dining restaurant so is on the higher end of cost but is worth it. The ambiance, food and service is excellent.
