   Chose The Smith due to its proximity to the Metropolitan Opera. Reservation only listed outdoor dining, but arriving for an early dinner they were able to seat us inside. The restaurant filled up quickly on a Thursday night and was quite noisy making conversation on a 2-top table challenging but not impossible. Wait staff was excellent despite the hectic environment. The bowl of mussels was plentiful with a tasty broth. The Caesar salads were good with crunchy cheese wafers instead of the usual croutons. The 3 massive chocolate chip cookies for dessert were more than 2 people could consume, but tasted fresh out of the oven. Overall a satisfying experience before the opera, conveniently located right across the street.

   I had a reservation but was initially seated at an undesirable table with a wobbly chair. I asked to move and was given a better option within a few minutes which was very much appreciated. Lunch was delicious and the avocado toast is a very generous portion. The tomato soup and kale salad were also really yummy.

    My 23 year old daughter and I went for a Sunday brunch at 2:15. Reservations are the way to go as it is very crowded. We were sat at our exact reservation time. The food was amazing! The oysters were so fresh and tasty. The Eggs Benedict were stellar, the hollandaise sauce was the star! The service was friendly and well paced. I definitely recommend!

    Noon on a beautiful Sunday afternoon - crowded, but we were seated within 5 minutes of our reservation time. Very efficient maitre-de desk and outstanding table service. Menu had a bit of everything, and our brunch selections (southwest scramble and avocado toast) were excellent. Well deserved crowds at this delightful, convenient gem. Make reservations - even for lunch on weekends!

    The food and service are very good. I always enjoy the sparkling water on the table. However; the noise level is always bad. Wish there were more booths. Diners are cramped together in the back room.

    We went here pre-theater at Lincoln Center. We waited 15 minutes to be seated even though we had a reservation. Once we were seated, service was quick but not rushed. If you are going pre-theater, plan accordingly as reservations are not seated on time.

    the restaurant must have overbooked by 50%. the people waiting were pouring in and flooding the outside sidewalk. this is a pre theater restaurant and the hosts couldn't provide any estimate for when we would be seated. we waited half an hour beyond our reservation and still no indication we would be seated any time soon. don't go here if you are headed to theater after. you'll never make it and will be stressed through your whole meal. we would up leaving and going to the much more pleasant cafe fiorella next door. very disappointed with The Smith.

    My burger was very good, my companion's butternut squash schnitzel was outstanding. Servers were excellent, paid attention to our need to leave for the opera house across the road on time. Noise level is unpleasant for oldsters like me who like to have conversation over dinner.

    extremely disappointed compared to prior visits the burger and portion of fries had shrunk to the point i left hungry - never thought it would happen - love the fries and there were always enough to share with companion who ordered salad and even take some home - delicious reheated it was so crowded that the server who was delightful kept on apologizing for not bringing things because she couldn't make her way to the bar and it was noisier than ever - can't hear yourself think much less hear your dining companion! the burger was still delicious but there should have been more of it might go back because of convenience and servers are always so pleasant but trying the Lincoln before the opera tomorrow night - much quieter and not that much more expensive and even more convenient for the mobility impaired

    Outstanding visit as usual. Marvin was our server. He was amazing. Was worried they changed the name of the best Manhattan I have ever had. From midtown manhattan #2 to #3. Marvin said it was smoother. And it was even better ! Food was outstanding as usual. Place was absolutely packed so be sure to make a reservation on open table a week in advance if you want a fri or sat night. Expect NYC pricing but certainly worth it

    Arriving in advance of our 3:45p reservation a table of three without a reservation was immediately sat before us and we were told to wait at the bar until another table for three was available. We were told that our server was leaving and that we should close our tab although we were not done. The server assured us that another would take over our table. After closing our first bill the two hosts, male and female, hovered over our table telling the server to hurry us along because they had another reservation for four people and needed the table. I have been going to this location for many years, almost weekly, and have never been treated like this before. This may have been my last visit because of how inconsiderate the hosts were and how table turnover was valued above the customer. It’s a shame that this location has gone down hill after a notable staffing change.

    The menu is limited…..there are no real entrees. Mostly sandwiches and salads. And the seating is bloody uncomfortable….hard as hell.

    Loved our brunch here. The eggs Benedict was a great dish with perfectly poached eggs. Flavorful bacon and plentiful coffee. A little expensive but we enjoyed it.

    One of my go-to places in Manhattan, especially near Lincoln Center. Definitely make a reservation because it gets crowded. Food is wonderful! Tables are a bit close together, especially tables for 2, but that's New York for you. It's a steampunk-vibe adventure. This time, my DH and I split the roasted Brussels sprouts, which were fantastic, and I had the kale/quinoa salad with shrimp, also terrific. Ended with coffee and "birthday" cake--yum!

    Excellent lunch pre-theatre. Citrus salad with perfectly grilled shrimp. I sat at the bar as it's a bit less noisy at the crowded lunch service. I'll be back!

    Although a very busy location - Lincoln Center and before a matinee performance, the reception was lovely as was the service. Caesar salad with steak was tasty but very little steak. In fact, just a few chunks. Mentioned it to the waiter and he said "yes, it's light". Okay, fine. Just saying... Still - good location!

    Pleasant dining experience with good food and service. We ordered an appetizer to share and my friend ordered an appetizer and soup for her meal and I ordered a salad with the additional salmon option. The food was served in an odd order with my friend’s soup arriving rather late. It was pre theater and I suspect the kitchen was busy. It was not a major faux pas, just not the order we would have preferred. We’ll be back.

    Food was really great. We initially received some cold fries but the server and manager immediately corrected the issue and gave us hot fries to go with our delicious burger. Normally would give 5 star but we love going for the burger and fries at times and was looking forward to those fries. All and all still great time and delicious food and great customer service from manager and server.
