oh my, this place that's just so gorgeous, was such a DISAPPOINTMENT on our last visit. From a server who was soooo inexperienced (not his fault but the responsibility of management) so as to be totally unprepared for FINE DINING, to food that was merely edible...such a far cry from what a place of this caliber (and it's commensurate price point, I starting with a waiter sooo inexperienced as to be totally inept (not his fault, but that of management, I might add) to food that was at best mediocre. We're locals who have had wonderful experiences dining here and then others like our most recent-sub standard to the edge of inedible..consistency is the name of the game, especially when you're aiming to be a top tier dining place in a chic resort. Too bad, we wanted for you to be our "special event place"

Food okay. The staff were obnoxiously snooty - as opposed to the phenomenal meal at Castle Hill, which is just as upper echelon, but the staff were warm and friendly.

Beautiful setting, excellent service and delicious food. It inspires Champagne and romance. It was not intimidating, as some “special occasion” places can be. It was relaxed elegance. Loved it.

Second visit. A bit disappointed. We were told they have a new head chef so expected it to be as good as last time. Service exceptional (but why the need for so many? One greeted us at the table and never saw him again!). Amuse bouche was delicious as was the pork belly starter. My duck breast was tough and undercooked. Plating kind of barren. Still location is stunning. Have a drink beforehand or after on the lawn.

We had a lovely dinner, if a bit expensive for the amount of food we got. But it was first-rate and we enjoyed the wedding band on the patio as a bonus. View is outstanding too.

The Spiced Pear at the Chanler is our favorite place in the world. You are treated like royalty while you’re there and everything from the food to the service is spectacular. Regardless if you go there to experience three course fine dining or if you go just to relax on the veranda, GET A SPICED PEAR MARTINI! You’ll thank me.

The Spiced Pear was one of the best dining experiences we've had, anyplace! The pre-dinner cocktail at the bar was fantastic; try the house signature Spiced Pear Martini, which was great. The bar and the dining room evoke a charming, old-world mansion type dining, which you would expect in Newport. Service was attentive and impeccable, with bartenders and servers in black pants/vest, white shirt, black bowtie. Menu consists of a pre-fixe 3 course meal (which we selected) or a 7 course tasting. All options on both menus were unique; the presentation as well as quality was excellent. Service was choreographed with 2-4 servers for each course, While we didn't do the wine pairings for each course, our server recommended glasses that perfectly complimented our entrees. Not sure this is the type of place you dine out on a weekly basis, but for that special occasion, I would highly recommend the Spiced Pear.

What a divine experience! The view, service, ambiance, food and drinks were top notch! I surprised my husband for his 15th anniversary in business and we had the tasting menu with wine. This included asparagus, lobster tortellini, salmon, scallop with foie gras, wagyu beef and a dessert. Perfectly paired and a delightful experience for your taste buds!

Third year anniversary tradition. As in prior years spectacular dining experience. First rate service and top rate setting. Food and wine pairings second to none. Could not have found a better venue to celebrate with the best person I know. Well done as always.

Beautiful restaurant. It’s expensive but worth it. The view is stunning and panoramic. The prix fixe menu has many options and three courses are surprisingly filling. I highly recommend the raw oysters and the butter poached lobster. The wine list is small but thoughtful. My one complaint would be that a bit of a dress code that requires men to wear a sport coat would be nice - at least in the restaurant.

I have wanted to go to this restaurant ever since I saw the article in Rhode Island monthly where chefs were asked where they would like to eat. 90% Said the Spiced Pear! As we entered, the hostess wished us happy anniversary as well as any of the staff as we walked to the table. Our waiter, George, was great. He helped us pick a wine for our dinner and was very attentive without being annoying. The food was beautifully prepared and presented. The flavors were incredibly deep and provocative. Although, many places make decaf coffee as an afterthought, the Spiced Pear brews it with the same care as the rest of the meal. Just exceptional. When we had our dessert, our waiter then presented us with anniversary gift: peach gratin with a chocolate card “Happy Anniversary”. Beautiful! I have been telling as many people I know that enjoy food as much as I do about the Spiced Pear! What a find!

We enjoyed a dinner here on our visit to Newport. Our server, Andrew, was knowledgeable, attentive, and precessional. We had a table at the French doors overlooking the beach with a breathtaking view. We enjoyed the filet and duck, and the corn soup with fans beans was my favorite. Everything we enjoyed from the prix fixe menu was delicious. We finished our wine on the lawn at sunset. Everything about this property and dining experience was top notch.

We did not like the 2 choices given, either the 3 course meal or 6 course meal. We did the three and found the meal and starter selection limited. We had 4 people in our party and paid $600. +., With a glass of wine for everyone and not most expensive either. I liked spiced pair last year better, with more choices For the money didn’t leave feeling this was the best meal ever and for that money I think I should. Too bad because we live in NPT and it’s not on my list any more.

We went for our anniversary. The restaurant is very formal and romantic, with great views of the water. We had a choice of a prixe fixed menu or a chef tasting menu, there were no other options. We chose the prixe fixed menu and even though the food was delicious it seemed a bit expensive. We would definitely go back but only for a special occasion.

The overall experience was fabulous. The ambiance was breathtaking overlooking 1st beach in Newport. The service was impeccable, George and Cole were wonderful servers. The meal was fantastic, and the chef surprised us with an anniversary dessert that was special. We celebrated our 35th wedding anniversary there and will remember it for a long time to come. Thank you for a wonderful experience.
