It was a surprise celebratory dinner for my girlfriend and I. The evening turned out exactly how I imagined, and she loved it!
If you can notice I love this place and I make sure I bring everyone here to see the beautiful view. Sadly a couple service issues people in the restaurant made it less than perfect. However, the ones who went above and beyond balanced the distastefulness this time around.
Amazing view! Incredible service. The only issue was that it was freezing cold and they couldn’t adjust temp. Had to keep my coat on the entire time and I had a pretty dress on :(
The food is extremely subpar. The service is good and the ambiance is cool. Our waitress, Miss Ann, is always amazing! She's the best!!!
Beautiful scene food is great just a little expensive. My husband and myself celebrated our 31st wedding anniversary there on Sunday October 7th. Overall is was a great experience just disappointing that the restaurant doesn’t rotate anymore .
Great food and great atmosphere
The service and atmosphere are top notch!
I really wish the restaurant still spun around. The food is excellent, just isn’t anything special.
They do the classics very well!
The overall experience was good, I ordered salman,it could of been cooked little more, other than that all was good.
The Sundial is an ATL staple, if you are celebrating and event, you go to the Sundail. Sadly, it seems the restaurant has just stopped trying, the chicken was dry and rubbery, the Mac and cheese was cold. The pasta order was wrong and the chicken tenders were frozen. Just a dismal performance by the once amazing restaurant.
The service was great, the food delicious and the view was amazing.
I had a great time. Very beautiful view. Very good service and very nice people.
value of the menu originally correlated with views and constant movement....without movement....recommend revisiting cost points for the menu...my visit was average at best..over paid for a not so fantastic view.
Sun dial has lost its luster.
The plates are old. We went to the bar and waited 10 minutes before we were served. The server at the bar was anything but personable.
We were celebrating our birthdays and we were disappointed. Also we did not know the restaurant was not revolving. We were told that we should have checked the website. We made reservations through open table
Everything was fabulous except the rotating floor was not operating when we visited. That is part of the ambiance and it was missed.
We went for the ambience and to see the city. I had no idea we would get microcars fish.
We first sat in the upstairs bar area and had a drink or two. Wanted to taste the blue cheese chips. But first were told that they were out of chips. They had just sold out. They would get some later. So we said no problem just bring them when you can. When our dinner reservations came up at 6. No one came to get us even though we checked in at the bottom and the top of the elevator. We finally went down and she had no idea we were there. Strange when we checked in twice. That's probably the best part of the story.
We then ordered some appetizers. Shrimp bisque and the cradle salad. They were good but the failed to take our drink order. Samit and Jeff were very nice but I don't think they know table service every well. We again said we wanted to order some of the blue cheese chips and were told we could not order them from the bar. Then were told that we could not die to the fryer being down. This will come into play later in the meal.
I finally had to ask if we could order a bottle of Veuve Cliquot. Jeff did a great job pouring after he found out how to open the top of they Cliquot.
Then for dinner.
We ordered the half rack of lamb and I ordered the seared halibut. This was a disappointment. The lamb was rare. Had very little flavor. Now for the halibut. Not only was it not seared, it was deep fried. That would have been fine but how did they deep fry it when the dryer was down. I didn't say anything.
However, when I cut into the first bite it was extremely hot in the middle and cool on the outside. How do they get that to happen??? It's microwaved. It was awful.
We did mention it to both the server and the manager Jeff and Samit. They had no idea what to do. It seemed like no one ever complained about the food.
They really need a chef that knows how to season and cook to order. We were offered a creme brûlée which we accepted.
Great view from 73rd floor. Classy ambience!
The restaurant was not turning due to insurance problems and the menu was average at best. The service and atmosphere was top notch (except for the not turning part). However for the price I cannot recommend this restaurant on service alone.
Had an amazing time with my husband on his birthday. The food and the view are amazing! Try the seafood pasta.
The menu was honestly Disappointing I have spent my entire life working in fine dinning and I appreciate a lot about the restaurant. However the menu, It was boring. well executed but boring,.
Fabulous views of Atlanta, and the food was top notch. Highly Recommended!!
We have the worst service ever. The lady didn’t even look at us in the eye. Throw whatever we ordered and leave. Disappointed cuz it was a birthday party and we spent almost $400 but they didn’t do anything
Food not good nor was the presentation of the food. Probably won’t come back.
Food is very good and the view is AMAZING of the Atlanta skyline!
We like to take the grandkids as a tradition to celebrate my birthday. The Sunday brunch is very nice.
The food was absolutely delicious and the view was electrifying.
We had 9:00 reservations and didn't get seated until 10:30. The person at the front desk didn't really care and/or there was nothing he could do. The server at the table was very nice!
I expected this to be over the top for our anniversary although in general things went well I do not believe that the service and food are up to par with the views. Our food was not fresh and seemed as if it was reheated and not even reheated properly. I would say that the dishes are overly priced only based on what we got served. I would not mind paying top dollar if I received top dollar food and service. If I were to visit again or tell anyone about the restaurant it would be just to go check out the views and spend your money elsewhere. I could have spent less money creating a more detailed night for my anniversary and still could have gone up to visit for the views. In all aspects everything was mediocre other than location, not at all up to par with the beautiful views. It doesn’t even rotate anymore.
Service and view was incredible!
Food and drink menu had excellent selections.
Would have given 5 star except for the ink print on the menu I was given was poor I suggested that they should get rid of that one.
My family and I enjoyed an outstanding meal here. Food was excellent but the best part was the service. Our waiter was LeCorey and he was phenomenal. Very well trained, personable, very friendly, and advised on great menu selections. He treat my girls like princesses and made it a special night for us all. He is a great ambassador for The Sun Dial. Great experience overall!
As you all know, it does not spin. Then outside view is just any skyline place, otherwise it is not restaurant has 360 degree view. You will have to walk around if you want all angle of view. Then atmosphere is suitable for romantic or anniversaries only. Table is small and no flexibility on menu. Drinks look fun. not for big group or company dinner.
I found the Menu to be misleading. The menu says Chicken Dinner, but my receipt said Fried Chicken Breast. If I had known that there would only be ONE piece of chicken on this so called DINNER, I never would have ordered it. Especially for what you are charging. Upon inquiring about purchasing another piece of chicken, I was told it would be HALF of what the whole dinner cost. That's outrageous! Thank you for the experience, but no thanks meals and their prices. Not worth it.
SUCCESSES - Staff, Views, Music
DELTAS - Food
RECOMMENDATION - Go for drinks only and enjoy view and music.
Pass on dinner!!
Visited The Sun Dial Restaurant for my hubby's birthday (9/26). Our initial reservation was with Polaris but due to last minute changes we chose The Sun Dial. The view was beautiful; probably the best thing of the evening. The staff was friendly and welcoming starting with the first interaction at elevator. Yves and Joyantas were our servers and they were top notch. They were on top of their game, not missing a beat. And the band/music this Wednesday was exceptional.
Now - the reason for the rating is related to the meal. The food was very disappointing. We both ordered the NY Strip and I have had better buying from a butcher and cooking my own at home. I don't like steak sauce on a nice steak so my steak was very bland. Not a hint of flavor (the same with the sea scallop appetizer). I really can't say anything positive about the steak (oh yes I can - it was cooked the perfect medium rare) but the taste and presentation were lack luster. It's definitely not your McKedricks. Heck - even Houston's steaks are better. We both left disappointed as all he wanted for his birthday was a good steak. Funny thing is my spouse rarely complains about food. He just goes with the flow so when he mentioned something about the food experience I was like WOW. He actually said "we won't be back" (to eat).
So long story short - definitely go for the view and ambiance but just have cocktails. As for us we will be trying his birthday dinner again ( a do over) this weekend at McKendricks to make up for our experience here.
Wonderful food and service! It was good to be back.
Excellent waiter with great service and the ambience was awesome rapping up our night meeting some great people who dine in as well our only disappointment was the sundial no longer spins I hope you guys plan on getting that fix as it adds to the ambiance of the restaurant after all dial in Sun Dial I think signifies take a spin while the sun is still up. Let’s start spinning again Sun Dial
The menu is full of rules for surcharges! The food is way way over priced and subpar at best. Yes, the view is spectacular! Our waiter was excellent! But to charge people $1 for a glass of water is just weird! Charging for changing side dishes, must buy a full price entree which are basically $65 a pop and they had more added charges I just don’t remember what they were. We won’t be going back again. If your going to charge those kinds of prices for food it better be amazing!
Took a coworker from India and wanted to have great rotating view from 72nd floor of Westin Peachtree Plaza hotel. What a disappointment that the dining room no longer rotates. The view makes up for the high prices for average food. Won’t go again unless the dining room is rotating.
We were guests at the Westin for the weekend and had a reservation for a Sunday night.
We were so disappointed it no longer rotates - so we were stuck with the same view the whole meal and I was beside a column that blocked a major portion of the view.
We opted out of the glass elevator up and had to wait almost 20 minutes for someone to take us up on the regular elevator after getting there early for our reservation so we could request a certain view.
My food was delicious (New York Strip), but my daughter's salmon was just okay. The sides with the salmon were not good at all and she said the fish tasted like it came from Captain D's - dry with no real flavor. They did ask if she wanted anything else, but she opted out since she was so disappointed.
The host staff acted as if they really didn't want to be there, but the wait staff was efficient. No real personality or interaction at all from any of the staff.
I've eaten at the Sun Dial several times before, but I won't be back anytime soon. If they could find a way to rotate again, it would distract from some of the other issues.
Celebrated second wedding anniversary. Beautiful scene and beyond extrodinary service. You are paying for the food and not the quality of the meal. Dinner was good, but not for the price offered. I would go back again for the view and service.
This is a staple when we have guests visiting from out of town. The food is subpar and overpriced, but we go for the view and the experience, not the food. The Sundial is NOT revolving...indefinitely. I wish we would have been notified before we arrived.
Great view, service and food
