The waiter was wonderful but the food was average. Nice space, not as nice as the photos in the daylight. Would pass for other options.
Great food, great service, great experience.and amazing servers. The calamari by far my favorite. Well the grilled salmon was awesome too.
High Tea was a disappointment. While the scones, the cream and the tea ended up tasting great, the sandwiches were dry and had very little filling and our order came out all wrong at first. We also asked for 4 high teas and were only served 3 plus the wrong teas were served etc..... the price was relatively high for the service and the quantity.
Open Table sent a confirmed 4:30 reservation. Upon arrival, we were informed not open until six. Manager accommodated us, the food was 1st class and service was excellent. They even turned up the heat.We will return.
We went to the Tavern for dinner while we were visiting DC for a volleyball tournament. We were not staying at Henley Park. The restaurant was quite and the food was excellent. My wife indicated that the salmon was the best she had, I had the chicken which was also excellent and my adult son had an e cells to hamburger.
The server was excellent and she was very proactive, my only negative was the server had to function as receptionist, bartender and server because they were short handed. She went out of her way to work and fast as was possible with a pleasant attitude.
It was Valentine’s Day, we were 1 of 2 tables in the restaurant when we ordered the prefix menu. The main course was cold, my wife’s ravioli were not even room temp. The grilled veggies on top of the ravioli were obviously pre cooked, cold and thrown on top. We asked the bus boy to send out some additional sauce to heat it up but it didn’t help.
We unfortunately didn’t see our waitress until after I finished my meal so my wife’s experience was miserable. Then the desert, creme brûlée is supposed to be served with caramelized sugar on top. This creme brûlée was made is advance and kept in the fridge. You are not supposed to caramelize the sugar and put it back in the fridge! There was hardly any caramelization on top and it was gritty.
I understand that it was Valentine’s Day and maybe they were pre cooking everything but there were only 10 tables in the place ! I fee they should have taken the time to make everyone’s meal perfect instead of cut corners for time and sacrifice quality.
If this was a cooking show, they would have been chopped the first round.
Everything was fine. The food was fine. The wine was fine. The service was fine (slow and a bit of an attitude). No reason to go back - but nothing was wrong.
The food was inedible
After years of visiting tea venues in the Capitol Region, Henley Park was the only hotel left in DC where my friends and I had not yet enjoyed afternoon tea. We were all very excited for this experience. Making the reservation for the tea was challenging because Henley Park was offering a special Valentine's tea according to their website, but the person I spoke with on the phone did not know what I was talking about and referred me to the manager. I received a response from the manager that we could do the Valentine's tea and she was sorry for the reservation confusion. These reservations were made a few weeks in advance, and the day prior I received confirmation for the reservation and that we would be having the Valentine's tea. When we arrived, however, no one was aware we were there for a Valentine's tea and the waitress expressed concern about not having items ready, which I think is where the ensuing problems originated. The waitress eventually relocated us to their front parlor where they do afternoon tea. This is a very nice space and a true afternoon tea setting, which is surprisingly unusual to find. We received our pots of tea, but when the food arrived the sandwiches looked like they'd been sitting out for at least a day based on how the moisture in them had soaked through the bread. The sandwiches also had a stale flavor, and the scones where incredibly dry. One of the jars of preserves served to us which should have been sealed had been previously opened. The sweets were tasty, but we did not initially receive some of the items listed on the menu and had to ask for them. The waitress did her very best through the experience and always remained friendly and helpful. At the end, another person in our group asked to speak to the manager because the experience was so disappointing. Ultimately the hotel refunded half our cost. I hope this was an isolated event, but I do not think I would want to attempt trying tea here again.
Hidden gem. Spectacular service, first-class food. Charming, relaxed, delightful restaurant adjacent to a beautiful bar worth hanging out in. Historic building — check out the ceiling in the lobby and great windows, too.
Service was so slow and there was only three tables with guests. Very disappointed in service and food.
Great Calimari- excellent service- quiet for lunch- perfect for meetings. Great selection of wine. Recommend highly!
Food was plentiful. Great selection for price! Quiet when we got there for first seating, pretty amplified as we were leaving. Will definitely return and recommend!
Great food, lovely atmosphere. The service was awful-there wasn’t a hostess or server to be found for quite awhile. We had a reservation and they didn’t know anything about it (luckily there was only one other person there). Server came back only once near the end of the meal to check on us-otherwise she was no where to be seen. Would go again but would definitely cross my fingers for a different server.
I booked an afternoon tea weeks ago for my mother’s birthday. The website pictured a quaint tearoom with chintz chairs and all things “English garden”. When we checked in, they led us through a pub to a dining room not at all similar to the advertisements. I asked about the tea room, and the reply from the manager (who entered after ten minutes) was, “Its first-come, first-served.” They wouldn’t move our table after two requests.
There was only one other party of two in our room, as another single diner asked to switch tables when my four-year old daughter and pre-teen son were seated nearby his table. Our server didn’t come for our order for another 15 minutes. We ordered one of each tea type from the menu. When the tea arrived, they failed to bring cream, lemon or honey. When the food arrived, I thought we had only received one order instead of 3. It was lost on the 3-tiered serving plate. Less than 3 total pieces of bread for the very stale and thin sandwiches, one small cup of fruit and four miniature cookies. The muffin-size scones and clotted cream were the sole saving grace of the pitiful spread that totaled $95.
There was less than 1/4 the amount of the food shown in the website gallery. I am never opposed to paying well for good quality, ambiance or service, and this establishment fell far short of our expectations. The staff tried to make amends by bringing a piece of birthday cake for my mother, but the cake was stale, as well.
I urge any future customer to forego the amazing-sounding other menu items, order the inexpensive cream tea and lunch elsewhere.
This is a beautiful restaurant and the food is DIVINE!
Waiter was a bit clueless taking our drink order, missed steak on the menu (Christmas dinner), but a lovely spot to spend the holiday.
Very pretty setting for afternoon tea! The service was terrific and felt very special. The food was abundant - sweet and savory - and the tea selection was excellent.
Lovely afternoon tea experience. The hotel is old and grand in a tasteful and distinctive way. We had the holiday tea, which came with berries and whipped cream, tea sandwiches, scones and clotted cream, and cookies, mini tarts, and marzipan tidbits. Hands down the best scones I've had in DC. This was our second tea at the Henley. The tea is priced more reasonably than many other places in DC, and they serve tea on weekdays.
Came for afternoon tea. It’s the best one in town.. scones are fresh & the whole offering is not overdone — a traditional English -style afternoon tea service.
Classy always...and beautifully decorated for the holidays.
Unfortunately, it was not a great experience. The holiday decorations throughout the hotel and tavern were sparse and not well-done. The bread on the tea sandwiches was dry. Our cocktails - the Apple Cider Mimosa and the Cinnamon Pie tasted pretty much the same. When my sister got her second Cinnamon Pie, it was simply champagne with a cinnamon stick.
Our waiter was attentive and very cordial, and the scones were tasty. But that is about all I could recommend about our holiday tea experience.
Although the hotel was very pretty I was not impressed with this tea. We paid $28/ person for three tasteless, little sandwiches on stale, white bread, tea and 2 scones. The scones, I will say, were delicious and they did give us a free mocktail because we were celebrating my underage daughter's graduation from cosmetology school. We had read a menu online that said that for $28 you got the abovementioned plus tartelets and truffles. That was not the case. Also, one of my daughter's got cold tea water as did a few of the ladies next to us. I would not return, nor would I recommend.
The menu description was amazing! When we received the food, it was scones, a couple of small tea sandwiches, and sugar cookies. Although the items themselves tasted good, the selection was basic and not impressive at all for the price. They also served all food together, even though not everyone ordered the same thing. Bad! Just bad! There was not enough food for the 5 of us. I was highly dissatisfied.
It's a beautiful, intimate hotel restaurant. Filled with mirrored walls. The service was excellent. We enjoyed it pre-theater.
This was my first visit to your beautiful hotel. My guest and her husband use to dine there regularly before his passing many years ago. She spoke of the lovely memories, including the scrumptious treats prepared by your staff. The service was excellent I thank you for a wonderful experience.
Nice atmosphere. Service was excellent. Food was pricey, but delicious. I highly recommend the Seafood Linguine...cooked to perfection, excellent portion size, and tasty! Loved the Arugula Salad and Potato Leek Soup! Will definitely be back for more deliciousness!
Small. Nice looking restaurant, good food, freindly attentive staff.
We enjoyed our meal here at the Tavern. The quiet atmosphere was wonderful. When the heat got too warm, they adjusted it so we were more comfortable. We both had a glass of wine and salmon burgers, mine with fries and his with veggies. They told us that the chef would pick the veggies as the substitute for the fries. Thought that was a bit strange. We did not have dessert.
I reserved a table for lunch around 11:30am expecting it to be busy given there was a large convention in session right across the street. Nope. We were the only ones. And you’d think the service would be better with so few people. Again, nope. We had to track down the waitress just to get our orders in and again to get the check. Food was average. Would not recommend this establishment based on service alone.
Service was prompt and professional. Ordered the Royal Tea and it was delicious and perfectly balanced. The atmosphere is calm and comfortable, but with an understated elegance. I will definitely be back.
Great place for a family brunch, excellent service and great value for money with very good food.
The food and ambiance were great, but the service was just exceptional. Marius was an attentive, kind, and compassionate waiter and I would honestly go back just for his outstanding service. I forgot what outstanding service was like for a while, but he was a great reminder. He was great to each and every person, and everyone in our section of the restaurant was so pleased.
We enjoyed our Afternon Tea at Henley Park. The food was excellent , the pricing absolutely adequate.
Ist was a bit annoying that we we were placed right next to a loud group preparing for a wedding. But anyway, we can highly recommend this place.
Great food and environment. Service was poor-waitstaff were openly rude to members of my party.
Would not recommend!
Wonderful atmosphere. Great food. Good for groups. ..
Quality here has gone way down in the last two years which is disappointing
We went to the Henley Park for afternoon tea. It took a bit of time to find someone in the restaurant to seat us. we ordered the English tea and the tea itself arrived quickly. It took quite a while for the sandwiches and scones to arrive. The staff must have recognized our long wait because they brought us complimentary berries. The sandwiches were not the ones advertised on their website and they were truly mediocre. The scones were a bit overcooked, but warm and tasted ok. All in all, we will be looking for another place for afternoon tea.
Beautiful location with great ambiance. Our service was prompt and friendly and the food and wine were quite good :))
