   The food was ordinary, the added tip was a surprise and we should have been made aware in advance, the drinks are overpriced. I have been to a high tea in Vancouver and it was far superior to this one. David the host was lovely and the server worked hard. The staff overall did a good job.

   We went for Mother’s Day High Tea. Booking for 14:00. Wife, daughter, and I. $59 per adult, $33 per child 12 and under. The experience would have been fair for any other restaurant but for a fine dining establishment that is Velvet Glove, it was disappointing. Starting with the food for the adults, the mains were a hit and miss. The good was the shredded chicken on naan, shrimp on bagel. The almost-there was the quiche lorraine which was surprisingly bland, cheese & cumin twist, and orange & cardamom scone. The beet cured salmon was fine. Can’t really go wrong with that. The sweets were mostly good. The Lemon curd tartelette was surprisingly good. Not too sweet and surprisingly tart. The wild berry bombolini divided the table. Worked for me, but wife and daughter didn’t like it. Irish cream salted caramel profiterole was great. The cheese cake, chocolate covered strawberry and chocolate cake were standard. The children’s menu was mostly disappointing and unchallenging. Catering to too low of the denominator. We all shared most things so I got to have a taste. The only thing memorable was the deep fried Mac and Cheese bite. The kids sweets were disappointing. And despite the menu saying “assorted macaroons”, where both words imply plural, my daughter only got one. Service was friendly but not fine dining level. Waitresses were friendly but seemed overburdened. I do have to give credit that they knew what everything on the plate was. We had to ask for water for our tea 3 times. We had to ask separately for the cream and sugar when the tea arrived. It seemed like we were being shoed out by having the bill given unprompted. And for some reason for a Mother’s Day event, the waitress handed the card machine over to my wife. All of the above would have been fine for a trip to another restaurant but we expected more from Velvet Glove. Overall though it was mostly an fair experience. Solid 7/10. The $$$$ for that experience makes this poor value though.

   Food was good. Service wasn’t anything to write home about but I wouldn’t say bad at all. Setting was nice. Little pricey but that was to be expected “it’s the Fairmont”. Over all I would go again for a special occasion.

   Was very nice for something different to do. There was not enough food for $60 a person. They need to improve on the food pastries where great but sandwiches not so much.

    Sunday, Spring tea at 2:15. $150 for two. * The room was empty, maybe 4 tables with ppl. The music was odd: piped in pop music. Would expect classical, or maybe a string quartet. Not as chic or classy as other fairmont afternoons teas. The sandwiches were very tasty, although the scone was extremely small, dry and awfully disappointing. All the desserts/pastries were not great, all way too sweet and gooey, except for the macaroons, they were the best. At least the service was awesome and attentive, although the waiters shirt was untucked, and name badge upside down. LoL They lock the the restrooms now in the lobby/restaurant and the outdoor lobby entrance is dirty and grubby, attracting undesirables. Makes you think twice about going again.

    Attended the spring high tea and it was fantastic. My daughter has allergies and they contacted us twice before the day to confirm the sensitivity. On the day they made her special food to ensure she had an amazing experience as well. Food was delicious, environment was lovely. Perfect afternoon.

    The idea of a high tea was great! The table setting and how the food was served was great. There was an imbalance on savory to sweet food. A nice fresh cucumber sandwich would have added a freshness and more quantity to the savory dishes. There was almost too many sweet desserts with too many competing flavours. At the end the whole meal was overridden by a cloyingly sweet palate. There should have been some more tartness to the desserts to balance out more. There should have been more freshness with fruits. The dipped strawberries were actually not “fresh” bc of the overpowering of white chocolate. And the outer white chocolate layer of another dessert was so overpowering. For the high cost…the value wasn’t there, especially with the 18% tip added automatically. Service was great as expected at the velvet glove. Could of added music for better ambiance.

    High Tea was an absolute delight! As always, the restaurant is elegant, yet cozy. The food in terms of quantity was more than sufficient and the quality was outstanding. The creativity of the chef is always spectacular, with each “savoury”or “sweet” mouthful something very special. Rod, our server, has been at the Velvet Glove for many years and prides himself on personal, attentive service. He has a great sense of humour as well & made our High Tea experience one to remember! We are looking forward to going back to the VG once the restaurant is open as Covid restrictions are lifted.

    We had not been to the Velvet Glove in years, this was my parent's restaurant. We went for the Valentine's Dinner, which was a 5 course set menu, and used this opportunity to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We really enjoyed the dinner, the service was excellent, friendly and professional. The courses were paced just right. The food was top notch. I had the pork, which was outstanding and the passionfruit tart was truly excellent. It was pricey, but I felt it was worth it and it is nice to have some place in Wpg to dress up. My only critism is that they may have played the worst music of all time, sorry who ever picked it :), it could use a change. We will return.

    The High Tea experience was incredible and exactly what I expected. I went with my husband and had the earl grey tea. The food was fresh and full of flavour and our server was great at checking in with us. Would definitely do it again!

    The ambiance and service were great! Food was delicious, especially the shrimp po boy, ginger snaps, and Saskatoon berry scones. The teas were delicious, smooth and flavourful. The price is quite high considering what you actually receive to eat, and everything outside of the set high tea menu is extra (I.e. coffee, juice, etc.). Overall nice experience but a bit pricey.

    I booked with notes that it was my birthday, and when confirming the booking the host made sure to mention they got my note and will handle it! The food and everything was great, but disappointed that the note was not taken into any sort of consideration- as I saw other birthday celebrations taking place

    We enjoyed the experience overall but were a bit disappointed in the food that was offered in the Winter Wonderland High Tea. I’m used to more of a traditional High Tea with cucumber and cream cheese bite size sandwiches. I don’t eat meat and all of the finger sandwiches had meat or fish in them. I guess I should have read the menu prior to booking. With that said, high end restaurants such as The Velvet Glove should offer a meatless alternative. When I asked for an alternative, I was offered a plain grilled cheese sandwich. The meal came to $250, which was not exactly good value for a grilled cheese sandwich and thumb sized scones! It was also not what I would have expected from dining at The Velvet Glove. The server was extremely kind and apologetic. She tried her best to speak to the chef, but this was certainly not in her realm of control. The room was beautiful, and we enjoyed our time socializing with each other, so the experience was not a total loss, but when you spend that much for High Tea, you would expect to be satisfied with the meal as well.

    Overall the high tea was a lively experience BUT in the reservation we noticed a sever seafood allergy, it was confirmed upon the arrival of our first guest and then when the guest of honour arrived the food was brought out WITH SEAFOOD! The food was replaced but this was very disappointing.

    No one asked if we needed refills on hot water and check was dropped off with the food. Got the sense that my daughter and I weren’t as welcome as other patrons at the tea. I was trying to start a tradition for my daughter and I as I have lovely memories of high tea with my mom and Christmas events at the fairmont as a child. Not sure if I would come again but Food was delicious and everything was decorated beautifully.

    There were no little sandwiches. One bagel, one croissant ant two buns. All of the breads were hard and cold. The filling were dry and not to my liking. The cone with jam and cream delicious. For $180 it is not worth it. Very disappointing.

    We ate here for our 5 year anniversary and we had a great experience. we really appreciate the little touch of rose petals on our table. the staffs were very friendly and very attentive to our needs. when the server noticed that my fiance didn’t like the drink that he ordered, she gave us a drink on the house even when we insisted that we were okay with the drink. the food was very delicious. the dessert was really good too and we got it for free as well. Will definitely come back here again and recommend to other friends.

    The hostess returned and sat us at a lovely table, by the fireplace, and the first thing my husband said was, we haven't been here for a while I really like the ambiance in this room. While sitting and wondering is any one was going to come to the table, a waiter passed and apologized and said he would be right with us. It was 15 min at least, and then we ordered a bottle of wine as we had our cocktail in the lounge. WE asked is the cauliflower on the menu was the same as the one in the lounge and were told yes, he thought so....please note the dinning room is empty except for a table of 5 and 2 its not BUSY.... OUR WAITER went by us numerous times apologizing and finally I asked if we could at least have our wine while we wait, he brought it right away, then he camr back to clarify our order....WE ordered 1 rib eye to share and an order of cauliflower. Not hard to remember, compared to 5 different orders at one table ....I thought it strange so obviously our order was delayed while he ran back and forth with the table for 5. I asked for ice water, got water tap warm, and bowl full of soggy black coloured cauliflower we didn't eat, no salt and pepper, no rolls. offered had to ask a different waiter that passed our table. When I mentioned the cauliflower he just replied oh that's how the chef makes it, I said they don't look very appetizing and are mushy as in overcooked. No apologies just the bill ....I don't know what was going on in the kitchen but it was poor service, in the dinning room, I would have hated to be there at a busy time. The waiter, needs to be versed in all aspects of your dinning menu, he only has to study VG only and provide the correct information. We were very disappointed, this was a special night at MTC and overnight at the Fairmont. We feel the management needs to know this, in order to rectify.
