Great place for special occasions but we went for a non occasion, just to have a dress up evening and a perfect dining experience. This restaurant hits it all with great front door hospitality, quick seating, attentive service and food made to perfection a cut above most. Hadn’t been in maybe 18 months but they keep this place on top of the dining game.
It was magnificent!!
The Whitney is now probably my favorite place to eat in Detroit!! Certainly one of the classiest venues in the D, the Whitney is a secret hidden gem with 3 floors of exquisitely restored Victorian-era interior design and a “ghost bar” with live piano music reminiscent of a speakeasy meeting Eyes Wide Shut. Our service was exceptional and our waitress gave us free champagne and chef samplers for our anniversary! If you really want to impress a date, take them here!
I love the Whitney, and once again they provided a wonderful date night and experience. They made sure we made it to the DSO on time, all the while not feeling rushed though our meal! Can't wait to come back and enjoy again
Beautiful historic house. Great service. Good food. You go to this restaurant mostly for the atomospher.
A great piece of history sitting smack in the middle of the newly burgeoning Detroit midtown. I was married here two years ago and the historic local is a perfect backdrop for a wedding. We came back for your anniversary and they did not disappoint. The food was amazing, the service was attentive, and the ambiance perfect. Long live this Detroit gem.
My wife and I had our wedding reception here on June10th 2017 at noon. We came back and celebrated our 1yr anniversary on Sunday June 10th at noon for brunch. What memories are made of. Thankyou.
Took my wife out on a date night and had a wonderful evening. Everyone was delightful and made our evening so enjoyable.
Service was slow that night which was unfortunate for the special event I had planned. The food itself was surprising unremarkable. It was decent but at $40 for a Beef Wellington, I had expected a large portion than the small bread roll size serving.
If service was faster and the menu was not overpriced, I would have enjoyed my time better.
I have no problem spending money on a great meal. Unfortunately, this was just an ok meal compared to other restaurants in the Detroit area.
The ambiance however was amazing.
We went here for our anniversary dinner and it was everything we expected and more. The food was fantastic- I had the filet mignon and my wife has the seafood dish. The salads were delicious. We were too full to try anything off the dessert menu. The waiter was very attentive to us. After dinner we went up to the 3rd flood and had a private tour of the home which we would highly recommend if you have not done it before.
We had a guest from the Netherlands with us and wanted to bring her somewhere special after visiting Motown. High tea was perfect!
My two friends and I enjoyed our tour and Afternoon Tea. We all thoroughly enjoyed every bit of our time at The Whitney. The staff was friendly, warm, attentive and welcoming. The food was very tasty and presented in a lovely manor. I was most impressed by the comfortable atmosphere where we were encouraged to enjoy the home. None of the stuffiness or "do not touch" attitude most historical places have. I highly recommend a visit to the Whitney. I am looking forward to going back.
Always the best
Everything was wonderful! We hit the ghost bar before our meal, nice room with views of the court yard. Meal was fantastic!
Great service, great food, great environment - enjoyed every moment! Hostess had our table set up and provided personalized menus for all acknowledging our special occasion - great touch! (presented a few after our meal to take as souvenirs). Hot appetizer combo for 3 people was more than enough for us 5 adults, though we DID have to get the colossal shrimp cocktail that had shrimp the size of lobster tails! Entrees of Beef Wellington, Salmon and Chateaubriand for two flamed & carved table side - you cannot get that just anywhere. All was expertly prepared and presented. Most guests seemed to be celebrating a special occasion, so everyone around us was really having a great time.
We went here for our anniversary and had Stephanie as our waitress and she was wonderful! Everything else was great too, the place and the food.
I liked the atmosphere of your restaurant. Beuatiful Mansion!
The portion of the food is too big for me.
If you have smaller portion a little more inexpensive, I can go more often.
I've eaten too much!
However I liked it a lot.
Although I am always impressed with the Whitney, I do wish they still had the Sunday Brunch Buffet. The buffet was AMAZING and could never be duplicated by menu selections. I wouldn’t stop going to the Whitney, but the deletion of the Sunday Brunch Buffet is disappointing.
Tremendous service, Outstanding food!
Our whole experience was wonderful. The staff were very polite and the good was absolutely delicious!
Nice quiet meal. Great food
Was recommend by a friend, went to celebrate my wedding anniversary, and loved it. This place is awesome
If you are thinking of going there, then do it. You will be happy you do
We hadn't dined at the Whitney for years. So glad we went back. The food was better than I remembered and the service was stellar.
The evening was a marvelous experience. The service was amazing and the food was delicious. The best part was most definitely the atmosphere and decor though! Couldn't have asked for a better evening!
9th wedding anniversary. The staff made it a wonderful evening. The meal was excellent, desert amazing, piano player was outstanding, and the home more beautiful than we imagined.
Wife’s Birthday was amazing. We had a great night!
The house is wonderful, the server was nice, but the food was expensive and nearly tasteless. For the price you can eat at a Michelin starred restaurant...
Very beautiful, historic building with a wonderfully elegant atmosphere. Food is excellent with a good choice of adult beverages. The menu contains many great entrees with a good list of appetizers. The calamari, the scallops and the main courses were incredible.
The service was personal and professional. The food was great especially the pecan crusted chicken and waffles and the ambience and views are rare and beautiful. Great place to visit!
Our waiter Josh was s outstanding! He made our anniversary brunch extra special. The food and the atmosphere at The Whitney is always perfect.
Reservation for dessert following a concert at the DSO. Loud music played from a speaker in the fireplace. It was annoying. It could not be turned down so the speaker was disconnected. We asked for decaf coffee. It took 15 minutes to be served. The waitress "disappeared" several times. I noticed her chatting with another waitress in the hall. We asked for more decaf and some cream. She brought a pot to the table but it was empty. It took 15 minutes for her to come back with coffee. She brought cream to each of us in cordial glasses. It was weird. Once our desserts were served, she didn't come back until she dropped off the bill. She never asked if we wanted anything else. Expensive for such a disappointment.
The food took very long (about 50 minutes) but it was excellent! Good for a date night, very fancy. Service was great too!
Excellent meal and great customer service from the restaurant staff.
As is the norm, The Whitney did not disappoint. From the service to the food, everything was perfect!
We had a fantastic time at the Whitney celebrating our wedding anniversary. Our server Daniel was very friendly and took great care of us, we will definitely return again!
What a fantastic experience!!! This was definitely the best dining experience I’ve had in Michigan and quite possibly anywhere. My wife and I came here for our anniversary and we can’t wait to come back. Each floor has its own feel (and menu) and makes it really quite an amazing experience!
We absolutely had to have dinner at The Whitney while we were visiting Detroit. The building is a 19th century home of a lumber baron, so the woodwork is spectacular. Beautiful ambiance, excellent service and delicious food. We got there a bit early, so we started with a drink in the Ghost Bar upstairs. At dinner I had a petite filet, although I rarely order steak, and it was cooked to perfection. It was a lovely evening. Be sure to ask your server about a tour of the building.
Overall experience was beautiful. The wife and kids enjoyed their meals, and the atmosphere. The service was excellent, and food was great. Especially the lobster bisque. Worth the price I would definitely visit again.
