Had a wonderful evening!
We had a wonderful time, as was the service and the food. Took a tour with Bree after dinner and completed a perfect evening!
I booked a table for 4 to take my wife and another couple (friends of ours) to dinner. My friends had never been to the Whitney before. We arrived a bit early and our table was waiting for us, so we ordered a couple of cocktails while we reviewed the menu. Our waiter was very friendly and explained the entire menu to us. Our friends ordered the Chateaubriand for 2 and my wife I don't think I would return to this restaurant. The building is beautiful, the staff was very friendly, the food was just ok and the presentation was less than expected.
The atmosphere is spectacular but the food was a bit below expectations for the price. I would expect better food for the price we paid. The service was also very slow. Our desserts were obviously frozen before being served. A bit disappointed.
We had a lovely time at the Whitney. I was very impressed with how attentive the staff was.
Josh Johnson was our waiter. He was welcoming, charming, engaging and very knowledgeable. Josh knew that we had a concert to go to that night and kindly reminded us when it was time to leave.
I observed Josh with other Whitney customers. Everyone received the same exceptional attention from him. Great staff makes for an incredible experience for all who enter the Whitney.
Whitney is beautiful
Another table ordered food cooked tableside and the smell permeated the room. The service was a bit slow but it was a busy night
Waiter ruined my birthday celebration with my daughters. His lack of service caused us to be late for a concert.
I have a list of things that happened, but I won’t bother posting.
Exceptional Wait Staff with extraordinary stories to share
We went before a show at the Fisher theater. We were in and out in about an hour. Highly recommended, but a little pricey. Really cool to see the inside of the mansion though!
Great time but out of the house beer and bitters for a feature cocktail. Service was good and received a complimentary birthday dessert. Overall great experience and would go again.
We were in a group that visited for high tea. Some of us took the champagne tour which was fabulous, and gave us a sense of place and time. The mansion is a must see for out-of- towners and locals alike. The tour guide was an historian who added vignettes and Detroit history to the tour, and "set the table" for the leisurely tea that followed. All in all it was a seasonal highlight for many of us.
My daughter and I were on our annual Christmas outing that we do every year. We had a 9:00 dinner reservation. When we got there the host told us they were running behind and suggested that we could visit the bar on the 3rd floor. While we were there the bar tender was very nice to us and the host ( Coach) on this level gave us a private tour and told us we could be seated up there right away. We elected to wait to be seated in the main dinning area. The main dinning room host kept us informed that they were still running behind and was very apologetic. We got to our table about 45 minutes late. We were in no hurry so this was fine. The host felt so bad he gave us complimentary appetizers, drinks and desert. Our waiter Joe was excellent and we felt like we got special attention. I felt the staff at the Whitney went way overboard in taking care of us. This made for terrific evening.
Lovely historical building. The ambiance and service were fantastic. The food was excellent even if the menu was lacking adventure.
The tour before the meal was awesome. The food itself was delicious
The Whitney never fails! Always the best service--friendly and efficient. Lovely atmosphere, cozy and romantic. A gem that sparkles at all times of the year.
The Whitney is always a good bet for dinner, especially a special occasion. The food was excellent. The restaurant is always decorated beautifully at the holidays which is when we usually go. My only complaints were that they were not ready for the 4:30 reservations. Everyone was still bustling around setting up the tables when we arrived at 4:30. Second complaint is with the lack of beer selection. With so many excellent Michigan beer choices their offerings were paltry. There were only 4 (bottled) beers shown on the menu, they were out of one already, and the description did not include which brewery made the beer. Not everyone drinks cocktails or wine so a better tap menu would be appreciated.
I would give them ten stars if it was an option. I have never had a better experience at a resturaunt. They treat you as if you are the only table. Everyone was very pleasant. F***ing Awesome.
Expensive, but nice
I was very disappointed with my lunch. I ordered the prime rib sandwich: the meat was tough and VERY fatty.... and the dessert, strawberry cake was not fresh and the icing was still frozen on top.. the waiter did replace the dessert and the 2nd one was better. I was looking forward to having lunch there as it was the first time l had been there. It was embarrassing because my husband and l invited a friend to join us.
Their meals were ok...not great.
We also had been given a gift certificate and were told we could not include the gratuity in the gift card...must be in cash or credit card. That doesn't make sense. Now l have a balance. The waiter was excellent...the chef was not.
The food was disappointing. The calamari was super soggy and chewy and not very warm. Unimaginative- it had random pieces of jalapenos sliced all over the top of a really bland whit sauce on the top. Very soggy. I had the add and turf special. The filet was really nice, but the lobster tail had black burn marks on the shell where it looked like it caught on fire and the inside of the tail had a raw spot - clearly, the kitchen lost control of the cooking and let it almost burn on the outside, thus removing it from the grill too soon causing the inside to be undercooked.
This is the 2nd time I have dined there in the past month. The last occasion was equally unsatisfactory. That's why I decided to review it. The Whitney is a fabulous location, but the food standards have really dropped.
After dinner, we went to the ghost bar and really enjoyed everything. I think next time, we will skip the dining room downstairs and just eat up in the ghost bar.
The Whitney is an absolute treasure! The setting is stunning, the service excellent, and the food delicious (I would have given it five stars, but the orzo was a little too salty).
The Whitney was beautiful we were seated exactly on time. Service was excellent. Our food was delicious.
This restaurant is a gem for Detroit.
The Whitney did not disappoint. Great food and atmosphere. It was decorated for the holidays so had a very festive air. Staff super helpful. Food was amazing. We did the three course brunch. The food combined with the ambiance made this a first class experience.
Overall the food, service, staff, and ambiance were excellent. I rated 4 stars because there was a man banging out Christmas carols so loudly it was hard to carry on a conversation. Quiet him down and it would be 5 stars for sure. We had the Beef Wellington.
The service was attentive and extraordinary. For our 25th wedding anniversary, the staff printed a special menu with a congratulatory message. The food was beautifully prepared and positively delicious. For desert, the chef prepared tasty raspberry and white chocolate tarts wishing us a happy anniversary in raspberry glaze. The Whitney Mansion is wonderfully appointed and provided the perfect environment for an incredible dining experience.
The lobster thermidor was pretty tasteless and disappointing. For $70.00, I would expect a “sweet tasting” lobster. The steaks were good but the seafood sauté was “average.” The ambience is amazing but I was pretty disappointed in the quality of the food, especially when paying $300.00 for dinner (food only - 4 people).
Fantastic food, awesome service, worth the pricey menu
The Whitney was amazing, the food was delicious and the staff was more than accommodating to my group in finding us a table at Ghost Bar. Thank you!
We went for our anniversary. I would say the decor and the service were outstanding. The food quality was very good. The only drawback was that the menu was somewhat limited. But we were ok with what the had. I got the beef Wellington which was excellent.
The Whitney is absolutely beautiful and dressed for the holidays it was even more so. Our waitress was attentive without being intrusive, the food was excellent and overall it was a wonderful experience. I would HIGHLY recommend the Whitney.
Great service from the time we walked in the door. Was celebrating our anniversary. The food was good so was the ambiance. Show up early so you can head up to the 3rd floor and have a drink at the bar that's there good cocktails! There is also a tour you can take with a historian that will give you great insight into Mr. Whitney and the building itself.
Whitney is a beautiful mansion. A wonderful experience dining there. Food is very good, but the cuisine is not elaborate but well done. Service is very good. Cellar is of good quality. We were given a tour of the mansion and background to its history. My date and I have a very good and memorable experience.
Our server Stephanie was amazing. Her attention to detail was 5 stars. From the table setting to drink and menu selection.
This was our first experience at the Whitney. Went to celebrate my parents birthday. Had a great time and the food was wonderful.
Josh the waiter was very pleasant and friendly. The manager and the rest of the staff was great too. Food was a TEN!
Excellent service, delicious food, exquisite ambiance...the benchmark of dining in Detroit
Went for my wife’s birthday it was wonderful its worth the trip for sure
The food was very bland and tasteless. 2 of us had the white fish. Terrible choice. The service was very slow. The wine we chose was unavailable and the Sommolier came out and said she didn't have a comparable Chardonnay ("nothing with the same Oakiness", she said)
I was very disappointed. First, the place is beautiful and has to be the best ambiance in Detroit. However, the food is so over priced and disappointing. I was there for a special occasion and just happened to get the most expensive item, the lobster thermidor. It was so dry and bland, total waste. The fillet my friend had was average. I saw a few bone in pork chops that looked good. If you go, be sure to save time for the tour.
