This review is a little biased since we went the day DC announced the COVIN restaurant restrictions. So there was hardly a soul in the restaurant. I feel like due to this - we really received the best experience and the attention to all the rules and regulations but still offering exceptional service was top notch.
Birthday. Everybody ordered the bottomless food and drink so they brought out everything “family style” which means they just went down the menu and brought about a bunch of small plate food. They kept the carafes of mimosas and margaritas full at all times. Great food.
Food was terrible and sloppily thrown together. Long delays and gaps in service. Over priced menu for what is basically children’s tapas. Loud, obnoxious atmosphere.
Great for Brunch :)
All I will say is Lawrence!!!!
Service was fantastic, however food was a little disappointing compared to some other restaurants in the surrounding area with similar food. It was still good but not great.
Had a large party and reservation but still waited forever for our table and staff did not communicate or handle appropriately
The food at Tico is always great, but I was somewhat disappointed in the service this time around. When we were shown to our table, there were no chairs there and we had to stand awkwardly in the middle of the restaurant for someone to bring us chairs. Our server was great, but when I tried to use my OpenTable gift card, the manager was pretty rude and condescending to me about it and I wasn’t able to use it.
Arrived with our group for a 2:30 pm reservation for bottomless brunch. We were told there were no tables available and didn't get seated until 3 pm. They were understaffed for the amount of people that were there, and our waiter informed us the best way to get food and drink was just to let them bring plates/pitches out themselves on a rolling basis. We weren't allowed to share dietary restrictions (we had a vegetarian with us) and didn't get to make any requests as to which dishes or drinks we would like to select. Food arrived sporadically at best, and we didn't get to try all of the items we wanted to. The biggest issue though was that at 4pm they told us brunch ended and we could no longer get any additional drinks/food after that. This would have been fine had we been informed earlier and had we not been seated a half hour late. All in all, we only got one hour of food/drinks, despite the menu stating brunch tables would recieve 2 hours of service. Food was good (if not sparse), but given our experience, I would advice folks to go to a different restaurant for brunch until Tico is able to staff up appropriately.
Hadn’t been to Tico before and the menu looked awesome, price was amazing, and who doesn’t like bottomless.
I made a reservation for 1:45p. We got there at 1:30p to realize for you asked the place was. We got seated at 2:08p.
The waiter was nice and explained everything. He was efficient with the beverage refills.
We were a couple carafes deep and 30 minutes into the meal, the waiter stopped by the table to inform us that the kitchen was backed and he’d have food out soon. Over the course of the next 45 minutes we only had three small plates to hold over the table.
Once the crowds started thinning out, we got more food.
Gregory did a great job handling the situation (he gets 5 stars) but I rated service lower due to the kitchen and the madness of the host’s stand.
Probably won’t go again but want to try out their Italian sister restaurant at an earlier time.
Worst DC brunch experience in my 8 years of brunching in this city. Hostesses were very rude, entryway was completely packed with guests waiting to be seated, and we didn't get to our table until over an hour after our reservation time. Of the dozens of dishes we ordered as part of our "bottomless" food/drink, we received, at most, 5 of them. For 10 people that equated to MAYBE one (disappointing) tiny taco per person. The waitress (who was very nice and deserves to be working with much more organized management), continued to say that our food was coming out, even though we'd been waiting for it for 2+ hours at that point. On top of that, the noise level was unbearable.
We definitely won't be going back, and suggest everyone else rethink their decision as well if you have plans to go here.
We made a reservation as we knew the restaurant is very busy for brunch. Upon arrival we were made to wait for a table. We were told our table was still occupied but the previous party just needed to get up. After waiting for 30 minutes we were told our table didn’t have any chairs. The host stand and management clearly over extended their abilities and were not able to accommodate groups they knew were coming. The host was rather cold and unaccommodating during this time. We asked for drinks from the host and were ignored. Finally we spoke to a manager who was preparing to seat us. He explained drinks would be at the table immediately. Upon being seated, both tables were so wobbly that empty glasses had to be held onto to avoid tipping over. Many employees saw our problem and even knew we had to resort to folding our menus to stabilize the tables. It was a very frustrating arrival.
Once started the service and food were great. However, again, they over stretched their abilities and the atmosphere was complete chaos. We had to yell to hear ourselves (our party was between the ages of 28 and 31). The tables were so close together that we had to sit completely against our own table and were still constantly being hit by staff members moving through the restaurant. It was a nightmare.
With as terrible as the experience was atmosphere wise, the food is always great. I always have low expectations for a bottomless brunch, but Tico always keeps their food standards high. Food was always fresh and tasted great. Cheers to the kitchen!
They were amazing with food allergies and thorough. Nothing like feeling safe to eat great food on a good environment.
The food was pretty good, although they ran out of the food which was on special at one point. I also think that brunch reservations should be stopped earlier in order for the restaurant to accommodate the patrons and their all you can eat requests, especially when there are multiple people in a party ordering from a prix fixe menu. The server did the best that he could and we were afforded a discount for our inconvenience.
Tico was amazing really cute modern brunch spot very upbeat and popular especially for brunch on Sundays I will def be coming back soon food was spectacular we tried the whole brunch menu
Menu selection for brunch was great! The indoor decor was so beautiful.
The brunch is a rip-off
Tico is a lively place on the U Street Corridor but is very loud. The service is friendly and generally attentive but the Mexican-inspired menu is average.
Overpriced, blah food. If I am paying $19 for little tacos, I want to be able to mix and match. Tapas are not shareable sizes for the price. Just wasn’t impressed
Great food and drinks!
Kitchen employee blew his nose didn’t was hands
Great experience! I would definitely go back if it weren’t for the noise.
we loved the food and drinks! However this restaurant was extremely loud even though it was not full. We had to talk/yell to have a conversation. I would not consider this an intimate place to have a meal.
I thought Tico was a great choice! The food and drinks were great and there were tons of options to choose from. Service was a little slow as we were wrapping up our meal, but it was understandable because it was a really busy night. But throughout most of the night, it was pretty good—our waters were refilled quickly and our food came out SO fast!
I thing too fancy to write about but our server was great. We loved the prickly pear margaritas but overall, I’ve had better Tex mex food other places. However, the bar was packed and I bet they have a great happy hour.
Our reservation was not honored and we waited close to an hour and a half to be seated. The server was great and very friendly. The food was awesome as was the brunch deal. Wish it wouldn’t have been such a long wait because that really hindered the experience. It was also very frustrating that there was no compensation for the hour+ long wait. We paid full price for cocktails at the bar while we waited, and then did not receive anything at the table to make up for the poor service.
The food was good, but it took 90 minutes for some of the food from our first order to arrive at our table. We thought maybe the kitchen was backed up, but the table beside us (that was seated and ordered after us) received all the items that we were waiting on during this time. There were some things from our second order that we never received.
Restaurant was very busy for brunch. Despite having a reservation we still waited about 15 minute for a table. Food was slow however restaurant was extremely busy.
I’ll start out by saying brunch here is very very fun! Great vibe and music. The issue was that we had a reservation at 1:15 for my birthday brunch and weren’t sat until 2 pm. We did the unlimited food and drinks and then not all of the food on the menu even came out. Just seemed to bring us whatever and it was only about half of the items. Our waitress did do a great job and we only had to ask her to refill our pitchers a few times ... she was mostly on top of it. But I do think getting sat 45 min late and not even being serviced all the food is not fair.
Fun place to meet friends before a show or night out. Small plates are a bit pricey, and tasty.
Interesting drinks and good service
We arrived on time - check says 1203 - and sat next to two tables that had obviously been there for awhile. The first 30/45 mins where great, food came out super quick and the waiter was proactive. But after that we saw the waiter 4 more times. Once for a check in about 30’mins after the last time we saw him, once to bring a check that we hadn’t asked for (and it hadn’t been 2 hrs yet and we got the check at the same time as the other 2 tables around us) and to give us attitude when we asked for coffee and desert, again to take the cards about 30 more mins after that and then to drop off the check.
Food was great. Drinks where good. But after about 45 mins service was so bad we had empty cups more than we didn’t and we wanted more coffee with more dessert.
My friends and I absolutely LOVED our brunch experience at Tico. The food kept coming and it instantly brought a smile to my face, not to mention it was absolutely DELICIOUS. Will definitely be returning.
The cornbread dish was delicious and the hashbrowns.
Love the unlimoted deal. The food and drinks are amazing.
Great food! Especially loved the Garlic Prawns!
It was my birthday and we got the worst service imaginable. The waiter was flirting with people at the bar the whole time while my party of 8 was hungry and thirsty. We were in there for over 2.5 hours. It was stressful and not fun.
The service wasn't the best but can be expected on a busy weekend
Awesome brunch place! Food was great, service was great and overall a good time.
Lots of food, lots of drinks for $40+ a good deal
Went here with my friends for Valentine’s Day and our waiter was really nice . The food was good , it was a bit pricey ( but that was expected ) . I’ll definitely be coming back , such a good vibe . I loved that they had plenty of pescatarian options as well .
