Monday @ 7:00 we just about had the place to ourselves. Our first time there after hearing about it for years. The hype was fully justified. Perhaps the best sashimi I've ever had. Really friendly staff. Highly recommend!

Thank you for the review. First of all, We use all-natural ingredients and wild-catch seafood. We prepare our Dashi stock with Bonito and Kelp. Kitchen made freshly taken dashi and miso soup for you. If you are used to tasting "artificial Dashi Powder" Miso Soup with soy, OUR SOUP AND DASHI WILL BE BLAND AND LESS TASTY TO YOU. WILD salmon is NOT AS FAT AS "FIRMED Salmon". You told us, " I know Sushi", but as we are a Japanese food restaurant, WE HAVE NEVER THOUGHT, "WE KNOW SUSHI". We believe that is the EGO in addition the EGO makes people stop the progress or improvement. WE DID NOT CHARGE ANYTHING TO YOU because we understand that your total order of 1 miso soup and 1 Salmon Nigiri did not match your expectations. We appreciate you giving us this opportunity to reply your review.

Chef Tojo creates unique flavors by combining the best of locally sourced ingredients and Japanese techniques. As a result, his food is unique, delicious, and amazing. We had the omakase dinner and loved it. Over the years, we have visited his restaurant whenever we come to Vancouver, and even though Japanese food has become more popular and accessible, Tojo’s food still holds up as some of the best.

The food was amazing. And we got to meet Chef Tojo, which was a thrill for my colleague as it was the first time at the restaurant. we gave them our budget and they prepared our meal within that limit. And it totally exceeded our expectations.

The food was so tasty. The hand rolls were exceptionally good and the seaweed outer very crunchy. We started and ended our meal with one each. The scallop one was amazing. We loved all the nigiri we tried, so generous, so delicious. Next visit we'll order a Tojo's special nigiri or sashimi plate. We expected to but got too full. We had a spicy tuna roll which we liked very much but would not order it again as it was too filling. I had the Sake flight which was super delicious and explained beautifully, each choice, by our waiter. He was extraordinarily knowledgeable and very willing to share that knowledge with us. We learned that mixing the hand grated wasabi with soy sauce was not to be done at Tojos. The wasabi was so good that we didn't need the soy. It just tasted salty and offered nothing. Thank you Tojos team for a delightful evening.

Tojo-san’s vision comes through in his food, his restaurant and kitchen design. The restaurant still looks modern after these many years. There’s frying ( tempura dishes ) going on but your nose wouldn’t know it. Tojo-san is obviously of Japanese descent but considers himself Canadian fully ( perhaps some day he will use Alberta Beef LOL ). He is truly a food ambassador. Although his sushi is excellent I’ll eat anything he braises, fries, simmers, smokes or steams. Even his dessert nicely rounds out the meal. The price point of the omakase means special occasion only for me.

An outstanding, intimate curated lunch - like sitting in Chef’s kitchen and casually chatting with him while he plays with different tastes. The sublety and freshness of flavour and texture was amazing. And the Sake! Wow!
