Tom's Oyster Bar Royal Oak Ratings and Reviews
Great drinks, great food, great service. Offers wonderful seafood, but other options for those who don't partake.
Food was good. Only drawback was the fishy smell. Yes it is an oyster bar but I have been in many seafood restaurants that don’t smell fishy. Salmon was fabulous. Keylime pie bit so great.
We loved it and our server Angie was great and it was 15 wedding anniversary and they made it a special moment. Thank you
They have a great selection of oysters and the services received was excellent.
I went for the first time on my birthday. The food was excellent. Drinks were great. Service was good. I was very pleased with my experience there. I would definitely go back
The service was excellent, but the food was just okay.
Our waitress was absolutely amazing. She was triple seated with us and two other tables. We did not wait for anything. Very friendly and helpful. Knowledgeable about all the food and drinks. The greeter was also very nice. Top notch customer service. Good was great to but the customer service was above and beyond
The best oysters I have ever had. The dinner entrees were delicious and fresh. Highly recommend.
Fun place with great oysters! Recommend it! Very good seafood selection with a wide price range.
It was our 25th wedding anniversary and we couldn't have made a better choice for pre-theater in Royal Oak.
Barbie the server was very attentive. Kim the hostess/water-pourer helped very well. they were out of one of the specials, but we tried the shrimp & aged white-cheddar grits minus the Andouille sausage - the "garlic sauce" was strong like a freshly crushed clove, but the shrimp were almost prawn size and the grits were well prepared. The calamari were served on a bed of tomato ragout with a proliferation of capers - very tasty. We tried the chicken picatta and asked for artichokes - it was served over very al dente fettucine. But they cut the noodles, so there was very little fork-twisting; and they emptied the rest of the capers over the dish. It was very briny as a result.
The food was delicious. The staff was helpful and friendly. Our server was amazing. We took our 16 year old son for his birthday, because he loves oysters. He was in heaven! Loved the variety. I'm not a seafood fan, but the chicken piccatta was delicious!
Carl, was the acting manager the night we were there. He was very accommodating with our OpenTable certificate. He also was the creator of the new Moscow mule menu. I had the strawberry lime Moscow mule which was fabulous. He has another new one coming to the bar menu for the holidays that sounded delicious. Our waitress Barbie was very helpful as well when I asked for a non spicy sauce for the flash fried shrimp tacos. She made the perfect recommendation! This is one of
my favorite go to restaurants and it never disappoints.
Our server, Kim, made a special occasion even more social....we'd go back in a heartbeat.
Good food with very attentive service! Will definitely be back.
Fantastic. Kim was great. Food was incredible!
Amazing food and even better service. Kim was our waitress and absolutely a doll! Would highly recommend!
Our waitress Jamie and bartender Scott were super. Tom’s is in the midst of updating their decor and bar area and it’s going to be awesome.
Our home away from home, as always! I was in town for a job interview that might just move me back to Michigan, and my other half is a resident. Tom's is our spot!
My wife and I went there for our Birthday. The food was fantastic. The appetizers were great. The Spanish Coffee is delicious.
Had a wonderful time at Tom’s. The food was delicious and service was excellent. There were always a staff member asking if everything was okay and if we needed anything. I’ve been here twice now, so I’ll def be going back.
The specials were many, a few had run out. My first drink choice was out of stock also. However, the ACE pear cider was outstanding.
We ordered a California roll with no seeds - my wife’s allergic. The roll was served quickly, but a few seeds were apparent. Speaks to the cleanliness of the work surface or the integrity of the chef. No way to tell, so I ate those pieces.
We ordered the clam chowder. It arrived quickly, a cup served in a bowl - it appeared half empty. Oddly enough, it was served with the oyster crackers as the garnish - which I’ve never seen before. My wife stated she found very few clams. Even I found only one and I only know that for the grain of sand I bit into.
The tempura fish and chips were tasty. They happily left the malt vinegar off the seasoned fries. Even though we asked for cocktail sauce twice and never received it, we destroyed that plate.
Finally we ordered the shrimp linguini and as promised it was very garlicky. The shrimp were large and cleaned properly and still toothsome tender. We cleared that plate as well.
Everyone was pleasant and friendly. We will return.
Was not impressed with the food. Out of the 4 people we were with 3 of us had poor dishes. No flavor to them whatsoever. Very disappointed.
The food at Tom's Oyster Bar was fair. The perch was mediocre, vegetables and garlic bread were very good. The waiter, Scott, was delightful and enhanced the experience.
Service was excellent, we enjoyed Naomi very much. We had the Jambalaya and Seafood Gumbo, both were very good.
We ordered fish and chips. While not a gourmet dish, it was coated with a delicious tempura breading. A bit longer on the cooking might have had the coating a bit crispier, without doughy fragments. The tartar sauce was exceptional. The chips were amazing. We each enjoyed the same dish. The portions were satisfactory, too.
First time coming here and without hesitation I can definitely say I'll be coming back to this place more often. Andrea, who was our server was great. She came back checked up on the table several times through out dinner service. I'd request her again just because she was absolutely amazing.
What to order? Happy Hour Oysters are amazing. Dynamite Shrimp (sooo good), Alaskan King Crab, and they had this special Blackened BBQ Mahi Mahi (flavor was extraordinary with a kick of spice just perfect).
You will absolutely love this place.
Tom's never disappoints. The oysters and drinks are always fabulous, but our favorite waitress makes our night special. Kim, we love ya!
Great Service, very well prepared food. Good variety, everyone in our party enjoyed their meal.
Anniversary of 23 years
Another great trip to Tom's. $1.00 shrimp and oysters during Happy Hour are wonderful. Lobster Rolls were perfect. Place is like a time capsule: a fifties oyster bar with modern food. Love it!
We give it 5 stars all the way. We had great service, great food, and great fun at Tom's Oyster Bar last night. I had the Fisherman's Stew, a delicious bowl full of seafood and fish in a tomato chutney bouillabaisse broth. I woke up thinking about it this morning. One of us had the scallops and she said they were the best scallops she had ever had. Everyone loved their food. Three of us shared the Dynamite Shrimp before dinner its just the right amount of spicy, the shrimp and slaw with pickled onion make the perfect bite, yep its a party in your mouth. The service was impeccable our server could not have been better, she knew the menu, she made great recommendations, and she took great care of us. This is one of our favorite restaurants and my friends and I can't wait to go back. Thank you Tom's for a wonderful evening.
The seafood platter was good but the filet, mashed potatoes (soupy) only fair. Drinks were extremely small for the price(Manhattan). Overall I wouldn't rush back before or after a show at the royal oak music theatre.
The food was extremely disappointing. We were expecting the similar menu and quality as the Tom's that use to be in Rochester. The menu was weak and the food was what could be expected from Red Lobster - terrible.
I really wanted to try the lobster rolls after I saw them on a commercial. They were EVERYTHING! I can't wait to go back! I also loved the crab cake and Caesar salad! I enjoyed myself and the service was excellent!
We were very disappointed with Tom's Oyster Bar. It was quite expensive and the food was mediocre. Could've gotten the same quality plate at Olive Garden and the oysters were awful! Very disappointed to pay a relatively big bill for such a boring and lack-luster dining experience.
the food was not good at all! lflhdkjhdjh;d
As always, my boyfriend and I enjoyed drinks (that Cranberry Margarita - yum!) and oysters while catching up with our favorite waitress Kim. She has become like family now, and will be invited to our wedding when the time comes around. Even with the Dream Cruise weekend, we were attended to without fail. See you next month!
I've been going to Tom's for years...was a good place for business lunches. We went there to celebrate my oldest son's b-day. He ordered lobster tail and rec'd 2 small ones @ the cost of $28.00. The waiter showed up with the melted butter as he was taking his last bite. The menu has added a lot of bacon to dishes and dropped my favorite dish Nicoise. I'm not sure if they switched chefs?
Everything I had at this place was excellent, but my favorite would be the oysters. They were the BEST oysters I've ever had! The service was awesome as well!
