Food was good, yet nothing too special. The fish was very fresh. The meals were expensive given the location. Downtown prices in Cleary Square. The server was very pleasant and efficient. Saturday night and it was very quiet. Good place to be able to carry on a conversation, unlike so many places today. Very updated, cozy atmosphere.

We were very impressed with the quality of the food, I thought the waitress could have been a little more attentive in seeing that customers were ready to pay when finished with there meal. I must say she was very friendly and informative in showing us the menu for the rest of the week which was full of choices, and the beer and wine selection was superb.

We were met at the hostess station by none other then Mike Tallon, the proprietor, himself. We had a very nice table for two by the window and the fireplace, which had several candles installed for ambience without the heat (it was late May, after all). Service was prompt, friendly and courteous without being overbearing or vulture-ish. There were several daily specials available that we were made aware of that sounded delicious, but we chose to order off the menu. Both dishes were delicious, cooked as ordered, and with some homemade touches to make them special. The wine list had many unique selections, but both that we tried were good choices at reasonable prices. All in all, a delightful experience. We'll be going back!

We expected much more from Townsend's. The beer was very good but everything else was pretty ordinary. Service was not good even though we were one of only two tables there at 6:30 on a Friday night. There was no valet but we were able to find a place in the street. And the food was OK but nothing like we had last year. Obviously something has happened here with the menu and the cooking.

My husband, grandmother-in-law and I took my mother-in-law to Townsend's for her birthday. We ordered the mussels for an appetizer which were so good. I had the 1/2 roast chicken and everyone else got the steak and we were all very happy with our meals. Everything was cooked to perfection and seasoned perfectly. Dessert was outstanding and homemade. We sampled the butterscotch pudding and pear sorbet. The service was surperb as well and we will definitely be returning to Toensend's in the near future. :)

Townsends is a small neighborhood restaurant with eclectic fare..food is always outstanding. The owner and bartender are very welcoming and now know us by name. I requested a booth near the window on Open Table and that request was honored

Over all, we enjoyed our experience and the food was good. Thinking on it later I thought it a bit over priced for what we had. It was over $100. for two drinks, two apps., two beers, and two burgers! I would definitely go back but likely avoid the $18 hamburger and fries. $15.00 to start and then $1.50 to add anything to it. A bit much for a hamburger.

Started with a group of seven which quickly grew to ten, they totally accomidating the whole time. excellant service even with a large party. From apps to desert everything is excellant! Mussells best I have ever had large and tasty. Must try the grilled ceasar salad.

This is a very nice place. We have eaten here many times and loved it; but this experience was disappointing. When asked if we could make a change to the special (fish and chips, we wanted something other than fries: we would have taken anything!) we were told that it was not possible. Not very accomodating, especially since the fish and chips were 17.50 and the fish was tilapia which is not usually an expensive fish and how hard would it have been to throw some veggies on the plate instead of fries? The waitress was very apologetic and she did a great job.

We went to Townsend the other night in honor of my husband birthday. I was so happy to find out online that the kitchen is open until midnight so I did not feel bad making a 10:30pm reservation (after work). They sat us in a quiet/private area out back which was very nice. Even though it was late, we never felt rushed. The food was delicious... I got the duck and my husband the steak. Caitlin our server was perfect. My husband loves the beer list you offer. I do wish there were a few more wine choices however.

Warm atmosphere. Gem. Great homecooking, such as Potroast! fantastic well seasoned, tender and better than mom made. Nice wine list of good moderately priced wines. Overall a really nice spot.

a gastro pub, upscale comfort food, good range of menu choices, reasonably priced. The service is attentive and neighborhood friendly - you feel right at home and most welcome. Outdoor deck for good weather, upstairs room for functions, fireplace in main dining room.

Have been here 5 times in the past 3 months. Always good service and excellent food - try the mussels with the Dogfish 90 minute... There is a nice selection of bottled and draft beers. Get a sampler of 4 for a very good value. You will not be disappointed.

A recent dinner at Townsend's was good and we were happy to find a decent place so close to home. The service, however, was good natured but extremely slow. In their defense, the place was nearly full, but it took an hour to get appetizers and the servers were absent minded when asked for things like bread and water.

My boyfriend and I went to Townsend's for dinner. Friends of ours gave him a gift certificate for his birthday. The server we had was wonderful. She checked a few times to be sure that we were doing well. Very friendly. The inside is very rustic and romantic. We had a pizza for an appetizer which was fantasic. We both had the sirloin steak with different sides. The steak was outstanding. Melts in your mouth like butter. They have a limited menu and a little pricey but well worth it. We would definitely go back for dinner.

I was very pleased with this restaurant which is not far from where I live in Milton. There is a scarcity of restaurants, especially good ones. The dishes we tried were excellant, each was a different take on the dish. Apetizers samll plates were larger than I thought they would be. Salads were very good, mussels were also very good. The spicy sprimp dish had quite a kick and the bread base was a delicious addition. Two of our Party had the filet of beef and thought it perfectly cooked. Scallops were also good. Service was attentive. All in all an very good experience. Recommend it highly.

We live in Hyde Park and have never had a solid restaurant nearby in recent years. I really hope Townsend's makes it in this economy. They deserve to. Excellent food. Relaxes atmosphere and well designed. Beer list is totally outstanding. Worth the trip to you outsiders.

I knew we would be a lonely couple on a Sunday night before a Sox/Yankee game. I would love to go back when there were more people in the restaurant. However, the sheperd's pie was unlike anything I've had before. Don't let the "homey" choices fool you - they are wonderfully and very tastefully re-interpreted.

The proprieter and waitress were so helpful to us, providing much needed directions, etc. The food was great, with generous portions. We were able to dine on the patio and enjoyed a lovely evening.

We have been to Townsend's on several occasions. It is the best addition to this Hyde Park community in years. The food is amazing, the atmosphere friendly, and the price just right.

We took my mother there for her birthday and not only did we all love our food - they also tastefully decorated her dessert plate with a candle! I would say this place could rival the Publik House on some levels - great beer selection and really excellent upscale pub food. We will definitely be going back!
