    What a fantastic pasta-centric meal in North End! The special gnocchi was bathed in an incredible creamy Gorgonzola walnut sauce and the bolognese pappardelle was perfection. The apps were also all perfect: the right balance of fried on the outside and chewy in the inside. Definitely will be returning!

    This was our first time at Monica’s after hearing so many great reviews. We arrived early and was seated right away, which was very nice. We sat for over 10 minutes before being acknowledged. When the server came over she never said anything about us waiting but instead wanted both our drink and food order at the same time which felt rushed. It was my birthday dinner with my husband and I was excited to get the lobster ravioli as it was on the specials menu that was given to us. I was informed that they were out of 2/3 specials and that was one of them. I found it odd that the restaurant was almost fully empty and they were out of a special 3.5 hours after opening. Two parties sat while we were there and they were also given the specials menu and never told that they were unavailable until they all tried to order them as well. I got the carbonara which was very good and my husband got the vodka penne parm and it was just average, nothing special. The food arrived and the server never asked how everything was or if we wanted another drink, until we were done and waiting for boxes for 10 minutes. Maybe sitting at the bar when you first open is the only way to get both food you want and service.

    The food was outstanding at Monica's. We will be back. Unfortunately, it took close to 30 minutes to receive our first drinks, and this would be the only real complaint. From there it was great. Amazing espresso martini. The chicken parm alla Vodka was spicy.

    We dined around 6:30. The menu was very paired down from our last visit and included a note about how the chef does not appreciate substitutions. The “Special” was already gone. It was hard to get a second glass of wine (which was not very good to begin with). We weren’t offered another drink or anything else after dinner. The check just appeared. It felt like they just wanted to turn the table. This used to be one of our North End favorites. Unfortunately, they’ve lost their magic.

    Noise is not energitic but is deafening like an echo chamber...need to add sound absorbtion IMO...to many hard surfaces. Otherwise great. Consider bringin back the old framed artwork caricatures?

    We had reservations. Place was closed when we arrived because owner was arrested. They could have cancelled our reservation rather than have us find out when we arrived. I understand they’re going through a hard time but they should shut down the reservation option.

    Head chef yelled at staff the entire time.. screaming F bombs the entire dinner in front of my three young daughters. I felt terrible for the staff and was blown away at his lack of awareness around young kids. Shame on him.

    The waitstaff is terrible. We were stuffed in the corner with barely enough room to move even though there was only one other table there and we had a reservation. Our drinks were never filled. All of the waitstaff stood outside the whole time and talked. They could care less that we were inside with no drinks. We had to find someone to pay. It was stupid. Save your time and money and go some place else. The staff just wants to hang out outside with their friends.

    The quality and taste of the cuisine at Monica’s Trattoria is several cuts above that of most restaurants in the North End. We eagerly brought out of town guests there to experience it with us. But this time the experience at Monica’s Trattoria was terrible… We won’t go back for a while and definitely not during peak times ever again. The restaurant was sweltering with intolerable heat and the decibel level of noise was overpowering. By the time our food arrived over an hour later, two of our guests bowed out from the table apologetic that they could not enjoy the food because they were by then drenched in sweat, beyond hungry and terribly overheated. The unacceptable wait for our dinner exacerbated the inferior experience at Monica’s this time. We were sorry that we put our guests through that.

    Food was okay, but nothing spectacular. The problem mainly arises from the service. Our waiter was barely at our table, mainly standing with at the bar. She seemed more preoccupied with the bartenders and socializing with the guests at the bar than her tables.

    Great food, great service. Mentioned in my online reservation it was my son’s bday. They remembered and brought out a dessert with a flaming candle! I didn’t even have to say anything or remind them. They were on top of it! Great experience overall.

    Hidden gem. I almost don't want to give a good review as it will make it more difficult to get a reservation! LOL. Seriously it is the only place in the North End I recommend when meeting local friends and or bringing out of town guests. The food is of superior quality. Imaginative dishes to suit anyone's taste. It is not your red sauce Italian restaurant! Servers are always friendly and efficient. What more can I say?

    We were glad we came. Food was terrific. Service was not as attentive as I expect. It was warm as we had a large table, close to the stoves and food prep. That’s fine, but water glasses need to be attended to. We waited 25 minutes past our reservation on a hot evening. So we were thirsty. There was a party of 20 or more behind us and VERY loud. That happens and it’s ok, but the servers were walking past our empty glasses to take care of them. It was noticed. All in all, we had a great meal. The experience could have been better, but I would try again.

    A very good dinner in a pleasant environment. The gnocchi was fresh and homemade and the bolognese sauce was tasty. Also had the fettuccine with shrimp and mushrooms- again, very tasty. A good value in a pleasant dining spot

    This is my favorite restaurant in the North End. I’ve been coming here for years and always bring family or friends who are visiting from out of town. We had an amazing dinner. Our server and the staff were exceptional. Highly recommended!

    The service at the table was very good and at the same time they were not able to transfer the drinks bill from the bar to the table. The mussels were sensational. The sweet potato gnocchi were a more than worthy idea. My dish with the cuttlefish pasta was simply doughy and undercooked. The noise level was too high to have a conversation. Why are all the waiters female I saw with miniskirts and spandex?

    Uber'd across town for our reservations here and it just wasn't great. Wished we had stayed in our neighborhood and just waited for a table at a random spot on Newbury St. The only thing that saved the evening was that Monica's is close to all the great cannoli spots that are open late. It was expensive, service was borderline acceptable, food was just ok, our table was cramped and it was noisy with TVs on everywhere.

    Surprised my wife with a new restaurant in the North End and boy were all of surprised. 75 minutes after our reservation we were seated at our table and then things went downhill from there. There were 3 other tables sat 20-30 minutes after us that wound up getting their food before ours. Kitchen was messed up and backed up. So the owner came to the kitchen and absolutely abused his staff. The owner dropped 62 F-bombs in the 15 minutes I counted. The entire place was on edge due to this lunatics behavior. On the way out the owner wished my wife a happy Mothers Day as she approached him to tell him this is our first and last time at this establishment. He proceeded to tell her to “Get the F out of here”. Stay away, far away from this place. There’s so many other great restaurants in the area, no need to suffer through a meal like we did.
