Underground Tap & Grill is an American-style gastropub in the heart of Edmonton, Alberta. This downtown establishment is underground and is located across from the Fairmont Hotel Macdonald. Inside the dining and bar area, natural wood floors and brick walls add a rustic feel to the scene. Booth seats line the walls while comfortable chairs circle the tables in the center of the surprisingly large room. The whole eating area of the Underground Tap & Grill is well lit and amiable. It's a great place for a fantastic craft beer selection with lunch and dinner. Minors are permitted entry until 10pm.

Cuisine centers around savory meals that can be paired well with a great beer, cocktail or wine. Chef Lang's talent in fusion-style food is reflected in popular dishes like the Dry Aged Picanha Steak, Thai Green Curry Bowl, Poutine Au Canard, Mediterranean Chicken Salad, Gnocchi, and their burgers on made-in-house buns. The food was incredible! Very unique takes on popular food trends. Everything we tried surpassed our expectations. Prices were on the higher end but the food was definitely worth it and still reasonable. Our waiter was great and wasn't a long wait for the food.

This was my second ever visit to The Underground; to say my expectations were exceeded would be an understatement! I had the duck breast, my partner had the night's special, a steak with a wild mushroom bourdelaise sauce. Both dishes were sublime, the sauces complemented the meat perfectly. Everything tasted hot and fresh, and the desserts were also excellent. Service from Rob was also a highlight of the evening, he was extremely attentive and very friendly the entire time.

The food in this place is awesome. This was our second visit with in a month. Have tried 1/2 a dozen items and have not been disappointed. The Risotto is worth the visit.

This was our first time to Underground Tap & Grill and it exceeded our expectations. Tazz, our waitress was phenomenal and all of the food from the appetizers to the dessert was fresh and delicious.

I love this place. Not only does it offer an extensive, thoughtfully-curated beer list complete with flights, but the food is excellent--perfectly cooked, beautifully presented, and just flat-out yummy. I stumbled across it by accident one day and it has since become my go-to pub; I especially like that the noise level is reasonable even on a Saturday night and I don't have to yell at my friends to be heard, especially given the recent trend to uncomfortably loud establishments. Clean, comfortable, relaxed, friendly, terrific service...they really did think of everything! And with TVs positioned everywhere (but unobtrusively--how did they manage that?) it's a GREAT place to watch the game.

We were very excited to try this restaurant, our server was running around and quite busy even though there were on 6 other tables in the restaurant. It could be a game of catch up though, due to an oilers home game. We were warned that the kitchen was behind and food would take between 35-60 minutes. The bruschetta was fresh but bland. I had the tenderloin, I asked for mashed potatoes instead of the yams, I got yams. My sister got the wrong dish, but what she did get was her second choice so she was okay. The appy steak bites were supposed to be medium rare, they were med well. The wings were described with a hot sauce they were plain with a little salt and pepper. The salmon was fantastic as was the focaccia and arugula salad. I know it’s a tap house, but the wine list is comprised of a cellared in Canada wine (juice is from somewhere other country, add yeast in Canada) California and Australia, no real variety, it didn’t effect the night, but I don’t drink beer, so a wine would have been nice. The old fashioned I had was fantastic though, a cherry frozen into the cube was a great added touch! We were placed at a high top, which would normally be okay, but my 70 year old mom and me with a right ankle with pins just placed in it and a left ankle with a ligament tear made it very uncomfortable. I asked another server if we could move to a booth that had 3 stools with it, knowing it would be cozy by way more comfortable for our group, he said yes. Our server said no, which left me standing on one bad foot with crutches while we waited for a different low top to leave. Our server was short with us, condescending and very inattentive. It is a cool room being it’s actually underground, but it is hot, do not wear a sweater! With so many amazing restaurants in Edmonton, this is one we will not return to.

Cosy and congenial ambiance, with a massive draft beer selection. Food is excellent for the price point. Plenty of specials through the week. A reliable spot for a quiet drink or casual meal right at the heart of Edmonton's downtown.

They were clearly short staffed, took over 15 min to get seated even though we had a reservation and there were many tables available. Service was slow, food took over an hour to come and it was mediocre. Would not recommend.

The food was frankly outstanding. All four of us (two of whom are kids) were incredibly satisfied. The beer selection was less diverse and less local than I was hoping but they still had a number of nice pints.

Service and attitude of the place we pleasant. The music was a little loud for dinner conversation and their unproved Valentines Menu felt like a trap and severely overpriced at $65 a person for ribs and basic staples.

Food was exceptional…a very pleasant surprise! The service was a bit slow with only 2 servers and quite a few customers. A bit noisy for conversation but overall we really liked the place and will return. Had the tuna ahi, Brussel sprouts, and a burger and fries. Everyone was happy with their food!

VERY POOR SERVICE! waited 30 min for service. People coming in after we were seated had drinks and food.. and still wasnt served. we walked out after being ignored for 30min

Underground was a pleasant surprise. Doesn't look like much, is after all a tap room. We are not beer drinkers, but chose Underground because I thought their menu looked interesting and reasonably priced. The food was truly excellent, best I have eaten in a restaurant in a couple of years. I had the Pesto Spaghettini, which came with a rich and nutty Pesto served over perfectly cooked pasta. My husband enjoyed the Jamaican Lamb Curry, commenting that it was tasty and quite different than his curries (he's a great cook). Our guests both had the tenderloin, medium rare, served over sweet potatoes and chared brussel sprouts. They raved and cleaned their plates. We were too full for dessert. If I had a complaint, it would be their wine list is not very good. I know they are a tap room and not focused on wine, but I feel you can have a limited wine list and still feature a couple excellent reds and a couple excellent whites. What they have are affordable but not great. However, we knew that before we went, and my husband did like the Dunkel. All in all, a great dining experience. We will be back the next time we are in Edmonton.

My husband and I had a date night. Dinner and the Theatre. I found the Underground was close enough to walk to theatre. Tazz our waitress was amazing. Food was great. Definitely a treasure and we will be going back

We had an excellent meal at the Underground Tap&Grill. The steak salad was excellent with the steak being very tender. The menu was very interesting and different to many. The service was excellent. It was quiet because we were there before going to the theatre but is certainly very walkable and handy. The music could have been a little softer but we didn’t ask for it to be turned down so that may be our fault.

We tried Underground Tap & Grill on a whim and we were not disappointed!! The food was fantastic. Highly recommend the potstickers and the tenderloin, as well as the Irish Cream creme brûlée.

Met a friend at Underground for dinner before going to a Symphony show at the Winspear. The location was within walking distance to the show venue, which was great. Our server was fantastic, and even though we were at a booth in the back corner of the restaurant, she made a point to pop back to see us fairly regularly. I was not drinking, but my friend enjoyed the beer she ordered off of the pub's expansive beer list. If you are not in an alcohol-drinking mood and are at The Underground, do yourself a favour and order a bottle of the Intergalactic Root Beer. Sure, it's a $5 pop, but it is the best root beer I've ever had. I ordered the vegan bowl (though I had steak added to it, making it not-so-vegan). The meat was a little chewy, but the vegetables and dressing with the bowl were fresh and tasty. This restaurant is one of my favourite in the downtown area. Will definitely be visiting again.

We visited Underground Tap & Grill with friends with whom we look for interesting lunch spots - especially with good beer choices. The Underground did not disappoint - it offers a wide selection of beers on tap, including many from Alberta craft breweries. You can choose pints, half pints, a flight of four different beers or even 1 oz 'tasters'. The sandwiches for lunch included a couple of interesting burgers and a take on Edmonton's favourite festival treat, green onion cakes - with a spicy pulled pork filling. Service was friendly and unpretentious. A excellent choice.

Your waitress was little rushing us to leave somehow and I didn't like it. it was 9 PM and she was asking us all time what we what and is it all? You have to work with your employees more and educate them to treat customers differently.

Serivice was really attentive through out the evening until the very end. We waited a while for our bill. We had to ask the host to find our server. To be fair I think they were understaffed. They had really nice portion sizes.

No menus were given, had to grab our own. Took over an hour to get food. Food was good but no food is worth that kinda wait. A good resturant should be able to have good ticket times if they are empty or full of people.
