I had not been to Rancho Valencia in quite a while, and so Veladora was a real surprise but a warm and elegant one. The service was absolutely personal, solicitous, and delightful and the food unique, creative, and delicious (octopus starter, lobster risotto, Iberian pork). We most certainly recommend and will return!

Start to finish one of the best meals ever! Our waiter knew our food preferences from visits a couple years ago - even though we had never met him, nor had we ever formally made any requests - our prior waiter listened and noted it in our reservation. Paying attention to details like that only make the already amazing food and experience that much better. Well done Veladora!!!

Our waiter did an amazing job making the menu come alive for us. The menu itself was fine...just fine. His descriptions were so much better than the written description, and what we ordered was exactly as he described, and absolutely delicious as well. He gave very good advice about what we should order and how much. He made no attempt to oversell. The waiter was an important part of a wonderful meal, but the food itself was also delicious. We will be back! This goes to the top of our list for San Diego County restaurants.

We were there in Sept. and everything was 5 star! Brought a friend for her birthday this week and ordered the same item for lunch, the shrimp and lobster louie salad. There was no resemblance to the salad in Sept. Lots of lettuce, 2 tiny pieces of lobster shrimp was fine. The salad compared to ordinary restaurants for $16.00 SO disappointing. Neither of my friends were impressed and left most of their lunches on their plates. I planned on bringing my husband for his birthday dinner but do not plan on ever coming back.

We sat at our table for 40 minutes without a waiter coming. I tried repeatedly to flag someone down and no one made eye contact. When I finally got someone to come over they were confused and did not really apologize. Service wasn’t great after that either. This was supposed to be a special Xmas lunch. So disappointed.

Ususally the meal and service at Veladora is excellent. However, on this past visit, the service was extremely slow. By the time the server finally brought our food, my soup was cold and the quiche barely luke warm. The plate had clearly been sitting out for some time. I found the chairs quite uncomfortable. Like the seats along the wall, the chairs need back cushions (in my opinion). They've changed the plate on which the trio is served and the cramped presentation made it a challenge to enjoy each part of the meal. I finally had to just remove the soup bowl from the plate in order to eat the quiche. So, this was a disappointing visit and the first disappointment in many, many visits. Hopefully, this feedback will help Veladora revisit the seating, the new trio presentation, and provide some server coaching. If I experience this disappointment a second time, it will be the last for this restaurant.

Stone fruit salad was lettuce and4 slices of pear, which is not a stone fruit. Half dozen oysters were very small. Main courses of lamb and scallops were good but served warm at best.

The environment was very welcoming and subdued. We sat outside. There was music but we were able to carry on a conversation very easily. The service was fabulous and the waiter knew what he was talking about in terms of food and wine. We had the sea bass which, in our opinion, was too salty. The waiter did warn us but we were still expecting it to be less salty. The soup, bread and everything else was outstanding. Would definitely go back but would try something else and listen very carefully to the waiters comments.

Great brunch! I always love this place but the inside is kind of dark but this time we sat outside and it was wonderful. Steven our waiter was very kind, patient, and knowledgeable. Food was delicious!

My husband and I were celebrating our 21st anniversary . The whole crew made our experience a memorable one. The staff was very attentive and well informed regarding our special occasion. Our server, Rich, was fantastic. Last but not least, our meals were delicious.
