   Excellent service and a small but well-matched wine list. The names of the dishes were fun (e.g. Mary Had a Little . . . ). We really enjoyed the lamb chops and the chicken, but the cauliflower and vegetables (The Manchurian Candidate) was sublime. The beef could have been more tender, but the flavors were excellent. And if you like spicy food, then Not Your KFC is the dish for you.

   Food was mediocre. Chaat was dull - tasted of ketchup; beef was tough and chewy; they had the nerve to charge $6 for a small bowl of steamed rice. Disappointing. Cocktail was meh. The restauranteur spends too much time working with women chefs and not enough time in her own restaurant.

   Food was barely average. It was a mediocre impersonation of IndoChinese street food which fell woefully short of innovation and expectations. The chow mein was the worst with greezy noodles and significant aftertaste of the oil. Wish they continued with the Indian-Latin theme from before. However, the bright spot was the interiors which were redone in a tasteful and chic design. Prices were steep but I would not complain due to the recent Covid hibernation and high cost of goods and services. A 20% up charge of the ‘service fee’ was and then tip was unexpected.

   The food was good, but a bit too spicy. The service was a bit slow and the waiter rarely checked back after we got the food, even though we sat down before 6 pm. Most annoying, given the average service, was the policy of adding a 20% service charge for all party sizes to the bill. The bill stated that we had to talk to a manager to have the charge removed or changed. We will not be back

    I hate to complain about the service, but there were just two people running the dining room. They were working hard to keep up, but the service was not up to the standards of a well-reviewed, rather famous restaurant. For instance, we were not given clean plates for the entree and had to make do with our appetizer plates. We ordered a whole fish entree and were not given utensils to filet the fish and get it and the accompanying sauce and veggies on our plates. The food was interesting and acceptable, in particular the above-mentioned fish and the chocolate dessert.

    I’m shocked at all the bad reviews but was also hesitant to try this place because of them. Glad we did! I never tried it when it was indo-Latin but as indo-Chinese it is 👍🏽. The food was tasty with a good amount of spice. The service was excellent. Only critique I have is our table was super dark so hard to read the menu lol. Fav drink was my drink, my choice. Also was given masala fries and a desert on the house (the desert was too Indian for my tasting so didn’t like it but the fries were excellent). Enjoyed my “what’s the beef”. The beef was cooked well and not too chewy. The noodles were a little too sweet. The “not your KFC” was very good as well as the chaat. All in all it sounds like they upped their game 👏👏

    We had a late dinner, and Vermillion did not disappoint. We started with the chicken soup and had Squid Games and the lamb chops. Everything was fresh and well seasoned. When I’m Chicago, I’d definitely check them out again.

    I was really disappointed in the service and the server's knowledge about the food quantity. Let me first say that the overall food was good but our server couldn't provide good service to our party of 14. When we order spring rolls, they didn't come with any sauce so we asked for the sweet and sour sauce the server didn't say anything about the extra charge and we were charged $25 for 5 servings. When we asked the server about the food quantity, she didn't explain it correctly and we ended up ordering so much extra food that cost us additional $200 dollars. We ordered most of the entries as vegetarian and limited drinks and we ended up paying close to $1000 bucks for the party of 14. I think it was super expensive. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. Very disappointing!

    Waste of money. The server messed up our order and the food was below average. Interiors are weird, sort of confused in its interiors. A 20 % gratitude was added as a mandatory component which we didn’t appreciate especially after our service was horrible.

    The food was sub standard at best, very oily , very poorly prepared. More time and effort was spent on curating the Menu with the cute names than on the quality and taste. I have no idea how the #chicago tribune gave it the rating it did. They must know that Chicagoan’s have a variety to choose from so they better get their act together and improve the quality and the service. Definitely not going back.

    The restaurant looked promising when we walked in, warm lighting and nice ambiance. When we were walked to the back, where the tables were, the restaurant vibes were terrible and incongruent from the front. The floors were peeling, and there wasn't enough warm lighting. We gave the food a chance too, but beyond the small portions (understandable for fine dining, which this was not), the food was cold when it arrived at the table. Service was okay, but a service charge was built in (likely because of poor tips because of the disappointing nature of the restaurant).

    We didn't know Vermilion had changed from Latin-Indian to Indian-Chinese & were disappointed. (We could have previewed the menu online.) Nearly everything - including my non-alcoholic beverage - was quite spicy, and our guests had a difficult time finding something on the menu to order. We were also told by the server that the kitchen wasn't able to adjust the spice/heat levels. Vermilion used to be a place to dine for our special occasions, or when hosting first-time Chicago visitors. No longer. It wasn't a surprise that ours was one of only four tables the whole evening.

    Went with a large group. Unfortunately very slow service overall. The drinks took forever to come we were already into main course by the time the drinks showed up. The food was average at best for Indo Chinese and also very slow to come out. not your kfc was overcooked and rubbery. The main courses were nothing great either. Was very disappointed based on the history at Vermillion. The staff was busy socializing with people at the bar rather than keeping an eye on the tables and making sure the food was coming out fast. Had high hopes for this place. Hopefully they can turn around before it goes too far off the deep end.

    Food was good, the paneer wok was really good. Service was super poor, we sat for 15 min without anyone coming by, we had to ask random employees walking by to order, our server just never really came by or was aware what we placed. Tried the desert/bill spill when we were waiting for more food…They have a 20% required tip for parties of 1 and more which is tough when we barely had any service. Food isnt worth the service struggles. Ambience is quiet

    Bad food. Good staff. If you know and like Indian Food, this is not the right place for you. The food is extremely disappointing and high priced. We ended up returning 2 dishes back to the server. The staff was understanding and helpful. The drinks were nice but would not be back here for the food.

    Amazing find. Walked by the restaurant, stopped in for a drink then came back for dinner. The food was fantastic, incredible flavors, and a very exciting concept. It is also women owned and supports women's issues. 100% would go back and recommend to anyone who likes exciting flavors.

    First time to this restaurant - highly recommend! The décor, the service, the ambiance, the noise level, the presentation, and of course the food - outstanding! The owner and chef stopped at our table to ask about our experience. Both were so pleasant & eager to deliver the best food & experience. For my timid taste buds, I only wish the heat level on the spices was a bit less, but still - outstanding.

    This place might be the worst place I have been to in Chicago! We ordered all vegetarian dishes and were served two dishes with meat and the waiters were all confused and couldn’t even identify that the meat was on there - I had to try to verify. My partner does not eat meat and honestly when you specifically order something without meat, you should get that given allergies/religious reasons. The restaurant was so disorganized, the food was beyond salty and a little too spicy. Overall, we didn’t even like the meal even after they fixed one of the meat dishes to be vegetarian. They ended up providing dessert for free, however, even that was not the best. The fried ice cream was over powered by cardamom. I wish we never had dined here and I don’t recommend it
