Chef/Owners Lisa & Terry Harwood opened Vine Street Cafe in 2003. Located on South Ferry Road, just 1.5 miles from the South Ferry. Chef Terry works with area farmers, fishermen & vineyards and features their natural bounty on his seasonal menus. We make everything in house and Lisa's desserts, ice creams and fruit crisps are no exception. Recently, we opened a small market behind the restaurant. This is where you pick up take-out orders while stocking your home pantry. Specialty catering is available along with ready fresh meals such as meatballs, chicken salad, bread, smoked ribs, BBQ Sauce and a selection of artisan pastas. Reservations are highly recommended year round.

The food was excellent but expensive. The service was good, especially when our second server took over, not sure why there was a switch, but he was very attentive, helpful with ordering, and friendly. We hope to go back. My husband's only complaint was the choice of music-soft French dinner music would have worked so much better, but at least it wasn't too loud. Thank you for a lovely evening!

Always a wonderful experience. The staff at Vine Street are warm and welcoming, the food is delicious and the atmosphere lovely. Particularly enjoy outdoor dining in the tent, it's quieter and great for groups of six or more. Enjoyed octopus w chickpeas, mussels & frites, salmon w bok choy & mushrooms, and rigatoni.

It was not how we remember our last meal there. The filet mignon was overcooked and tough. As was the Strip steak. So I'm guessing beef isn't this chef's thing. Our guests LOVED the mussels dish. And, the martinis were very well made. We did not have dessert so I cannot rate that. Service was great- was present but did not interrupt us often. Much much better than some other restaurants on the Island, so we will return, but order differently.

45 minute wait for our table was quite unusual, but once we finally sat at the table everything was great and our waitress was terrific. A strong comeback to an unfortunate start.

Vine St., Café is consistent with its food and presentation. The noise level is a little high, but to be expected when it’s such a popular spot the food is always delicious. Staff is attentive without being annoying. It’s our favorite spot!

You had run out of the moderately priced wine we were hoping to order and there was nothing else comparable. We ordered something more expensive than we would have liked. I think you should have had something of a similar price that you could have offered us. The cost of wine is already over inflated, and a corking fee of $35 is also too much.

We asked for outside table but were given an inside table. We arrived early but were seated very late. The filet was ordered medium and came raw. I liked the family I met while waiting in line at the bathroom!

We love Vine Street Cafe. Been coming here for 20 years. The food and service are always wonderful. We sat at the bar and received great service from Marco, as always. We started with 2 glasses of red wine ( nice pours), then shared the calamari salad, which is delicious. For dinner, we had the duck confit and the seafood over pasta dish. We didn’t have dessert. Everting was good, but they’re starting to get a bit overpriced. This dinner was 168 dollars. We used to come at least once a month, unfortunately now will be more of a special occasion restaurant.

This was our first time there and most likely our only time there. The drinks were very small and very expensive. The food was adequate and expensive and the home made ice cream was was not creamy but very icy. Not a great experience for the price we paid.

I love eating at Vine Street so I decided to take my parents there. They were in love with every single thing we ate. The staff was amazing & welcoming to them and it was overall a great night for all of us. I’m sure they will be back on their own soon!

We enjoyed Vine Street. The food was very good. It did take a long time to get our entrees. Must have been a kitchen issue. However, this did not take away from our experience. All five of us enjoyed the appetizers and entrees.

We had a beautiful dining experience at Vine Street. We ordered an array of appetizers-tomato burrata, tuna tacos, beet salad and moules and all were delicious. The filet mignon with au poivre leaves me dreaming about it for days! Above all, in my opinion, is the welcoming and accommodating staff who go above and beyond to create an overall wonderful experience. On this particular occasion, our server, Danielle, carefully tended to our table with grace and helped guide our choices with real insight and genuine attention. We look forward to dining here again soon!

Vine street has lost its edge. Parking is very dangerous - should have an increased space and/or valet. If not, some will eventually be seriously hurt or worse! Service took over an hour! Food was over spiced - could not eat it - even the salmon was not up to their previous standard. How disappointing as there are so few quality restaurants on Shelter Island and now one less - they are probably over extended- quality NOT quantity.

I have been to VSC countless times over the years, and this is the first time i had a disappointing experience. Our waitress was terrible. She was pleasant enough when we sat down, but when no one in our table of 7 ordered an alcoholic drink I could see she was not happy. Then the food took much longer than it usually does - but we were having a nice time and the food is fantastic, so it was worth the wait. after we finished our meals, she asked if we wanted dessert and only 2 of the 7 of us ordered anything. I was stuffed and couldn't eat anymore. regardless, this clearly set her off as she basically threw the black folio holding the check onto the table and stormed off. I grew up working in the restaurant business and understand that it can be frustrating for a server when the bill of a large party is not as large as it otherwise might be if they were drinking alcohol and/or ordering desserts. that being said, that is not a reason for a server to show such contempt to the people they are serving, especially at a place like VSC, where historically i have received nothing but spectacular service. hopefully this was an aberration. all this said, i will almost certainly be back as this is the best food on the east end of long island
