Date found a hair in his food and the waiter, instead of apologizing or doing something to rectify the situation blamed us by saying the hair was mine that fell in his food. Then ordered a glass of wine and the bottom of the wine glass was dirty so he just brought a new one. Nothing was done to make the situation better... horrible customer service, would not return.
One of my favourite Go To rests. Great vibe in the heart of Yaletown. Had the spicy prawn appetizer and it’s a hit. Generous portions. Wine list is extensive.
Waited 2 hours for food
food was amazing and the ambiance was cozy and lively but our server was terrible. Once we said we were not ordering any drinks and we would just have water his attitude towards us turned sour. He was no longer friendly and he was disorganized. it was my birthday and my friends had secretly asked him to bring a dessert and he made it very obvious by putting spoons on the table before he brought out a cake. he also put the cake infront of my other friend and said happy birthday to her. Overall he wasn’t great but the food was awesome so i’d go again.
Great service and excellent food presentation ! Our server was amazing ! We had the steak and eggs dish for brunch it was delicious !
Great service and our food was delicious and creatively presented. We were delighted to bring in the new year at this restaurant.
Everything was good but table was draughty whenever door was opened
our reservation included a request for a round table and we got one. It made our special dinner even more special - thank you! Service was superb - our server was knowledgeable and helpful with food and drinks items. Didn't feel rushed at any time, and those cookies ..... superb! Thanks for a great evening - we will be back for sure!
Seated on patio, under cover and with heater. Obnoxiously loud group came in thankfully we were almost finished and leaving. Too bad as the food was really good.
Great service by our waiter, seafood was excellent, happy hour apples offer good value for the dollar. While it was an expensive night out for us as it added up with drinks, wine, applies, salad and our entrees, we really enjoyed the evening there would recommend it for a casual evening of apples and a couple of drinks or special occasion.
Everything was perfect from the vibe to the amazing food and exceptional service
Chose West Oak for a special lunch to celebrate the Holiday season with 2 close friends. We all enjoyed our meals, ambiance and the service! Left with smiles on our faces! Will be back in the new year! 🎄🎊
Amazing food, service and atmosphere as always! Highly recommend west oak
Great food, great service - way too loud
It was a great experience. We went as a group of six for a birthday dinner. The food was great, service was excellent and the prices were very reasonable. It can get really noisy in that small dining area but I would definetly go back.
Food was fantastic and the service was exceedingly beyond expectations! Outstanding!
We have been to West Oak several times since we "discovered" it and have never been disappointed. It is an attractive modern bistro nestled among the larger places on Mainland in Yaletown, though big enough to seat large groups and has a dining patio. We find the service friendly and professional and would only suggest making a reservation (the website automatically links you to OpenTable) to avoid the squish waiting at the front desk inside in bad weather. The food is tasty and well-prepared - creative enough to keep us interested and a menu not so wide that it is impossible to get a feeling for their cuisine. The prices are moderate, so have that bottle of wine (a good list!) and for sure have that cookie dessert, oh my goodness!!
We made a reservation over a month in advance and were seated on the patio. We were told that no blankets were available and diners have been taking them. 8 of 10 of us had food arrive at around the same time, the others had to wait for a long time. The restaurant was very loud and the food was mediocre. Our server was fantastic, very personable and responsive.
Our serve was amazing, went there with my boyfriend to celebrate our 3 years together and they made it special by greeting us with champagne and ending the evening with freshly baked cookies.
Highly recommended and the food was amazing.
Good food, and value but brunch vibe was quite weak. Maybe it’s more of a night spot? Despite not being able to make a reservation at the time I wanted, the restaurant was virtually empty. We were highly encouraged to sit on the empty patio, server kept referring to the evening even though it was the morning. Food was tasty but a bit oversold with the local, oceanwise, healthy adjectives upon seating.
Great place to have a special dinner, definitely recommend!
The food was very good, as usual. I’d love to see some more shellfish main dish options! Our waiter (from Paris, Aldon) was great. Super low key, and friendly. Was there when we needed him, but wasn’t unnecessarily talkative.
Hers: Lobster was rubbery and potatoes too hard. Appetizer of calamari was yummy though. // His: West Oak Burger nothing to write home about. On par with A&W.
We came in to celebrate our engagement on Monday. We were looking to try something new. What a great find! Your chef is very talented. The dishes were well plated and the food was very tasty. Our server was wonderful. Great sense of humor. We enjoyed everything! 5 stars for sure. We will be back!!
I cannot wait to go back for some more chinois prawns, so delicious!
West Oak is on the edge of Yaletown and I would highly recommend it for the food and value. However, do not expect good service. Our server was nice enough but it was very slow bar service. Also we almost got the wrong appetizer...ours had to be without nuts...they served the wrong one and came and got it moments before my friend's first bite. Yikes. Not to hate on this place but just a heads up.
Before arriving we were at the theatre and the play was delayed which resulted in us arriving late. We did phone ahead to say we would be late by 10 min and the hostess made it sound like it was a probelm instead of just saying they would hold the table. When we arrived (Sunday at 530pm) the place was 3/4 empty. Odd.
The restaurant called my cell phone 2 hours prior to our reservation to confirm. However, she did not say she was from the restaurant- just hello, who is this. Very inexperienced and unprofessional call. Also we had a very difficult time getting service from our waiter, he was simply too busy. We were unable to order more food and drinks after our initial order. The host promised the waiter would see us, 35 minutes later we were still waiting so the host took our order. The food was great (prawns, ahi tuna, chicken, steak, fries, salads). It was a fun energetic atmosphere. One of my guests complained her burger was cold on the inside and the waiter seemed overwhelmed.
Ok, so we are not the demographic West Oak is targeting. The average age of the crowd was about 35. The noise level made conversation difficult but no-one but us cared. People were having a great time. The food was good: the recommended prawn appy was delicious, my lobster linguine was perfectly cooked and flavourful, my wife had the salmon and it was very good as well. Dessert was panna cotta and an excellent version with raspberries. The service was good, but we did feel like they were rushing us to free up the table. If you are under 40 and looking for a party atmosphere with your dinner, thus is a good spot for you.
Food took too long. Could find our server several times.
Went there for dinner before a Canucks hockey game. Ordered a seafood platter to share and it was AMAZING!!! Super delicious and well portioned. Definitely happy with the meal and the fun ambience.
The food was not the best I have ever tasted, lunch menu was pretty basic but we enjoyed it none the less. Service was great and I would definitely recommend as a nice lunch spot
The food and our server was excellent. Was not aware there was a club at the back of the restaurant. Restaurant was very loud , had to shout all night to be heard at our table.
Went for Taste of Yaletown. The food was okay, they forgot our burrata for our starter, the dessert was also mainly jam instead of panna cotta.
Great night at West Oak. Celebrated anniversary. Got a flute of champagne. Great service with everyone congratulating on the special occasion. Would go back in a heartbeat.
The food was nice, the service was very good. The music was a little too loud though, it was hard to hear my wife from the other side of the table.
The Food was amazing!
Chelsea is always the best and always a great experience. I will be back 😎
Had a great dinner here! We sat on the patio, which was a little chilly due to a gap in the plastic -- that's my only complaint about our dinner. The food was fantastic -- prepared perfectly. The service was great. I'll definitely go back when I'm in Vancouver.
We had an awesome dinner and outstanding service. We actually sat at the high top tables in the bar area which was noisy but the atmosphere was still very comfortable. Our server Chelsey, made our dinning experience even better. Chelsey is exactly what a server needs to be. She was always on top of her game and made us feel right at home with recommendations for wine and food. It was a pleasant dinning at West Oak. Thanks
