Went there with my girlfriends for a birthday dinner and the food was amazing! We loved the atmosphere, only downside was the service. The waitress was not very friendly or accommodating when that is her job. Would have made the experience much more enjoyable if she had just been a bit more friendly.
Great dinner, awesome service !
I’ll start off with the food being absolutely amazing! No room to improve there.
We had a reservation for 7:30. I called at 7:10 to let them know as a courtesy that we were running a tiny bit late and would be there no later than 7:40. We got there at 7:37 but weren’t seated until 8:04. We almost walked out. When we were seated it was nice but as loud as a bar on game night, not the ambience we were looking for. The appetizers were incredible as well as the rest of the food but the dishes just sat on the table until the next course came. It could be just me but I hate empty dishes sitting in front of me.
It was nice to try but as amazing as the food was I don’t think we’ll go again. Well, not right away anyways.
I had been looking forward to dinner. It was the only DineOut I even booked for this year and the menu looked great and would have been my first time there.
Unfortunately, I was very disappointed in the meal. While the appetizers were lovely and delicious, the mains left a lot to be desired. All 3 of us in the party ordered the lobster tagliatelle. I had been expecting a lighter sauce to allow the lobster to shine. Instead, we got bowls of slightly gummy pasta in what could have been canned tomato sauce that had been made so spicy it was practically inedible. I LIKE spicy food but this was way too much and completely obliterated any lobster flavour - all one could taste was the heat of the chiles. One of our party had to send it back as she could not stomach the spice and got push-back from the server who stated that the description indicated Chili-marinated lobster. Extremely misleading as it was not just the lobster that had been marinated in the chiles but rather the entire dish.
Dessert consisted of fresh-baked cookies.
All in all, extremely disappointing for $45 meal.
I hope this is not representative of their regular menu!
Restaurant was warm and comfortable. Servers were friendly and attentive. The food was wonderful (especially the Chinois prawns and Lobster Tagliatelle) and had a great bottle of cab sav. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and plan to return.
A bit too noisy.... at times quite loud for dinner.
Th food was very good. The servers and staff were very kind. However waiting 45 min for your table when you have a reservation is ridiculous. And we were not compensated in any way for our time.
Table should fit comfortably for the correct party that reserved a table a few days ago. We had 3 people in our party and was given a table that fitted for 2 people. This was obvious as there were only 2 sets of dining culinary.
The manager was great and gave us a free shrimp appy and our server was good; however gorgot to offer us a dessert menu. We ended up having dinner from 7:15pm to 9:30pm because they said they were going to give us a table and we waited for 1 hour and still no table! Unfortunately, the seating/table that we got gave us a bad experience at this restaurant.
Not great. Late with reservation. Service was chaotic and disorganized. Valet took 20 mins to get my car! Won’t go back and don’t even try it! Much better places in Vancouver for the money!!
The happy hour specials were great, our server was helpful, and the food was delicious.
We went for happy hour on a Saturday afternoon, meeting up with an old friend. We booked using the Open Table app. Very easy to do! We arrived and were sat at a lovely corner booth near the entrance. In our opinion, the best table in the place. Happy hour snacks and drinks were wonderful in all ways. They were fast, fresh and hot, great value. All the things! Would definitely go back.
The food was great and service was good.
But music was too loud inside and out on the patio too.
So it was hard to talk to each other.
Had a great time. Out with family. Perfect food perfect service . Thanku ♥️
Excellent evening, and a very pleasant experience. Food and drinks were on point, lamb shank was fall off the bone tender. Didn't feel rushed at all, and loved the relaxed/smart casual atmosphere (also the comfy leather couches and soft cushions👌)
Probably one of the best meals I’ve ever eaten!
Food was ok. Nothing amazing. I have eaten better omelette at other places.
We enjoyed a comfortable and delicious meal Saturday evening. Cocktails and appetizers were very good and pasta with wine was great. Service was professional and relaxed. Overall great experience.
We sat outside on the patio but our legs were freezing. The portions were small and my son’s sablefish was overcooked. We would not come back here.
Service was great and our waitress went above and beyond. We ordered a bunch of the happy hour items and the food was amazing for the value. She also comped us a portion of one appetizer when we were disappointed for not ordering it. Will definitely go back. The prawn appetizer and the meatballs we great.
Good brunch venue.
Came early, enjoyed happy hour, very warm and friendly servers. Had arrived with just 2 of 4 as booked, and there were not issues whatsoever. First time here, will not be the last. Thanks.
We have eaten here at least 5 times and the service is always hit and miss. This last time the waitress was brutal.
Every time I eat here the food is only lukewarm, which is a shame because the taste is excellent. Not sure if it’s lukewarm because the servers can be so bad, but it has been consistently a poor temperature even when we’ve had a good server son not sure if I can blame the temp of the food on the servers or not.
Probably won’t give them any more chances because the service has been more often poor than good.
Repairs were done at the front door and it was scary to go in with a stepladder and wires hanging around.
Dear Sylvia, thank you so much for your recent visit and review of WestOak Restaurant in the heart of Yaletown. We have finalised our renovations on the patio and look forward to welcoming you back soon! With warm regards, Maria WestOak Manager
West Oak has one of the best happy hour in Vancouver. Food is good and inexpensive. Wine is decent also. Will go back for sure.
We arrived for our 7:45pm reservations and were immediately sat at a side table to have a beverage. Unfortunately due to miscommunication we never had a chance to be seated at our table. However, the management handled the situation immaculately well. I was incredibly impressed with the professionalism of both our server and the manager. Although we did have the chance to enjoy the entree, we will absolutely be back very soon to enjoy more of what West Oak has to offer.
Very busy place so we were seated at the bar. Very tight seating there so we thought this could be ‘one of those night’, but we couldn’t have been more wrong. We had a great view of the kitchen and the chefs at work - art in motion. Food was absolutely incredible and the waiter was perfect. All in all one of the best dining experiences we have ever had.
PS. Prawn appetizer was ridiculous.
Great happy hour, friendly and accommodating staff. Good value.
I have been to your restaurant for various company functions and its also a great experience and my family enjoyed the atmosphere and food...lots of instagram photo...lol
Again, thank to the server for preparing a desert tray for my wife’s birthday, very classy.
Nice ambiance, great service and tasty food as usual.
Starting off from the beginning I arrived a bit early and was quickly shown to a table and greeted by the best server, Geta! (Hope I spelt that right)
Everything was awesome and it is always a pleasure when a server can be social with a table and you know it's not forced or fake. The lobster benny was on point!
Will definitely be back!
We had a birthday brunch here and had delicious lobster egg benedicts and, as a treat for my birthday, we received mimosas and a dessert. Our server was lovely and the restaurant is very nicely decorated.
Food and service were outstanding!
Have enjoyed this restaurant for business lunch in the past however tried it for dinner this past weekend and was quite shocked by the difference.
Lots of shady characters, service was sub par and the food was just ok. Cops did a walk around more than once during our meal.
Quite disappointed in what was meant to be a really fun night out.
Amazing service, attentive, informative, and personable waiter. The sablefish and prawns I had were immaculately created. The only criticism would be that there was a bit too much sauce on the prawns, and unfortunately the patio was being renovated, which wasn’t the prettiest of sights. Another small thing was the lack of space near the bar. It was a very tight area, and not as delightful to look at as the main dining area. Other than those small small details, the restaurant made my night quite enjoyable, and I was not disappointed.
The server kept trying to take away our dishes before we finished eating and it felt like we were being rushed. After 3 times of circling back they finally asked us to move to the bar area as a reservation has been waiting on the table for quite some time.
I would have rather been told up front and be given options early on instead of constantly being interrupted.
The food was delicious and the happy hour menu was a great value. Unfortunately, the calimari was cold and the mussels were undercooked. The flavours were there though.
We had an excellent server who made great recommendations and was attentive to our table. The restaurant was lively and food was good.
We note that the restaurant vibe changed at around 9pm with a younger crowd, louder music and more of a lounge vs restaurant feel.

We loved everything except the noise level. Couldn’t hear each other or the waiter. Way too loud. Not a fault of the restaurant per se. Not recommended for a date night at a busy hour unless you want to stare at each other and smile or yell at each other lol
