This place has constantly delicious food and nice decor. I’d describe it as a half step up from Earls.
Great experience, good food, great service, good value!
Service was perfect. Attentive without hovering and non-rushed. Food was well cooked/prepared. I look forward to returning.
Food was good, had the standard brunch fare. Service was good. Had booked a table and noted in our reservation that we were coming for Dine Out Vancouver (lunch option). However, we only found out upon arrival that Dine Out Vancouver lunch option was only available on Mondays to Fridays. Very disappointing because it did not state that fact anywhere on the page for this restaurant, and I have seen a number of restaurants make that clear up front.
Great service and vibr. Was quiet for a Saturday brunch when we first arrived but picked up later.
Lobster Bennie was amazing!
We got seated in the lounge. Food was excellent for the price. Server was nice and after he spilled my drink on the table he definitely stepped up and was making sure we were good. The downside was that the table next to us was pretty rowdy and one of the guy was so drunk that he ended up throwing at us wet napkin that his friend had previously threw at him. Server got a good talk with them so we appreciated that but just in general you don't expect napkins to be thrown at you for no reason when you go eat at a restaurant. It's expected that when you're sitting in the lounge side of a restaurant the vibe will definitely going to be upbeat and fun but not to the point where clearly intoxicated and rowdy people put a damper on your night. Would definitely go back and sit on the restaurant side though.
Prawn appetizer...delicious! Great food, good service in the lounge, appreciated the dividers between tables.
The menu is great and they delivered on the food, although I was disappointed to see the triple fried fries have turned into potato wedges, which are not nearly as good.
Some of the music choices were a bit dubious for dinner time, listening to the F-bomb being dropped every second word takes away from the ambiance.
Finally. I was a bit uncomfortable that a lot of the staff were not wearing their masks properly. Many of them, particularly the bartender, wore their mask pulled down under their chin or nose frequently.
Usually the food is great value for the money but tonight it was not one of their best. Prawn appetizer was good but the rest of the meal was sub par. Seems to be a trend during with most restaurants rn.
Food is always great 👍… never disappointed so far … wish they had a location in the Burbs
Love this restaurant, staff make me feel welcomed.
The food is delicious. I have some food allergies and they make sure that everything goes good.
This was my first dining experience at the West Oak and it was fabulous. We look forward to a return visit soon. The food was delicious, the service was wonderful and it all made for a great birthday dinner. Top marks to our server whos attention to our order was memorable and to the hosts that greeted us at the door and helped get us a taxi home.
The dinner started exceptionally. Currently I have a lot of dietary restrictions due to health reasons and the kitchen was able to accommodate.
As per open table options- I mentioned this was a special event (birthday) and nothing extra was offered to make this dinner special. Not even mention of it until brought up by me and even then nothing. I know this isn't an expectation...but I mean most places at least acknowledge it or provide some sense of welcomeness.
Where the night took a turn was towards the end when a mouse was seen. This mouse was seen multiple times to the point where there was visual terror on our faces resulting in thr server asking us if we were okay. The presence of the mouse was shared with the server who said he'd tell the manager. Now this is where I realized I will never come back. The manager literally shrugged his shoulders and didn't care. No one came up to us thereafter or addressed the fact their restaurant had rodents in it. Ew much? The lack of care from the manager was 10000% off-putting and unappreciated.
Makes me wonder what goes on within the kitchen and areas where I cant see.
Will not be coming back and I hope others see this to make a conscious decision of whst to expect. I hope the health department comes through, maybe then the Manger won't just shrug his shoulders.... Sorry not sorry.
The food was great, as always :-) the only downside was that the staff was very visibly not following any mask policies even when preparing our drinks behind the bar, which made us feel quite worried
Irritated! I went to that restaurant because of the nice vibe and great atmosphere... and got a group of people watching a football game screaming all the time I was there. It turned out that on Sunday they offered a chicken wing + beer special that turns the place more into a sport bar than a quiet restaurant! Good food, and environment, but very disappointed with the management for allowing all that noise in a restaurant that presents itself as "classy"
I can't say enough about this place. Every time I've come here, I've found a new thing to love. The service is top notch professional and friendly, that's been consistent but the food! I'm the vegan with no vegan friends so I go to 'mainstream' restos and have whatever lame vegan dish they offer to be able to say the offer one ... Not here. There must be a Vegan in the kitchen or someone who's in love with a vegan because I've had well thought out, incredibly delicious vegan meals with PLENTY OF PROTEIN in them every time I've come here. I just discovered a brunch meal they offer "Vegan tofu scramble" - it's the best combination of everything that you will find ANYWHERE and bonus: your omnivore friends will go there with you
Scallops were nothing special. Tenderloin was rare at best when asked for medium rare. All the veggies were glazed in an overly sweet sauce. Asked for no potatoes and got potatoes. Atmosphere was fun and happening but good not worth it.
If you could give a higher than a five star I would give West Oak 10 stars
Their food is not only fresh and so fabulous the service there’s hands-down best in the city!
We had a wonderful time celebrating a coworkers achievement. Our server was very kind and patient with us. The restaurant was quiet due to covid restrictions but that worked in our favor as we got a great table. The food was amazing as per usual and their happy hour is AMAZING!!
The food was amazing and we really enjoyed the atmosphere
We have eaten regularly at West Oak for years. We have always loved the menu and food. But we had stopped eating there because of the very loud and awful music that we could never get changed or turned down. It was almost impossible to speak to anyone at a table during a meal. But after about 6 months we gave the place another try and on this date we were thrilled to have neutral music at a very reasonable level. And the food, as it always has been, was amazing. We will be back.
We enjoyed a great evening with friends. Excellent service, delicious food and safety measures were in place. Happy New Year to the West Oak staff!! Thank you
Lovely space, we sat on the enclosed front patio - airy, open and beautifully appointed - the faux fir throws were toasty warm from the overhead heaters and a welcome touch. Food a bit uneven - the chunky truffle fries are out of this world good, shattering crunchy outside, fluffy inside. Seafood roll disappointing - it sounds incredible on the menu, but all of the seafood is minced so finely you can't tell what you're eating, and measly serving on a huge roll. My friend enjoyed his chicken bacon sandwich, although it was fairly standard. Wait staff very friendly and attentive. All in all a very enjoyable experience.
We ordered Tuna sandwich. It is served cold which we were not expecting. It was very tasty but I think it would be better is served hot.
Best restaurant in Vancouver, food and service was exceptional.
My first time at this restaurant. Not sure if I'd go back.
We enjoyed the food, but we were out for more of a family dinner with teenagers and wanted something different than the Keg or Cactus. The atmosphere in the restaurant was very "night club" like, the music loud and hard to converse. As a matter of fact the back of the restaurant is joined with a night club a block west of Mainland. Lots of people taking selfies (no judgement) - ha ha.
I would hesitate to go back just because of the atmosphere.
Took more than 40 mins to get our food and when it did some was frozen.
However the taste ( of the correct items) was amazing !!!
Friday night dinner. Ordered a variety of appetizers which were really good - Chinoise Prawns, Maui Ribs, Calamari - all really great. For mains we ordered the sablefish and salmon. Sable fish was terrific and Salmon was just ok.
We were seating in the dining room and it had nice ambiance but a bit on the loud side.
Great service and food! Try the cookies…
The evening was off to a bad start with lots of noise and a generally indifferent client approach from front of house staff.
The salad was overdressed; the steak was very heavily coated with pepper and required two steaks to get one right!
While cooked well enough, the pepper was unpleasantly overpowering.
And while the table service was good (If a bit harried), management approach to dealing with kitchen mishaps left a lot to be desired.
Service staff were very attentive. Our server Allison really went out of her way to make my son's birthday special, manager on duty was also truly interested in ensuring that we had a good experience.
What a disappointing restaurant! The only bright spot was our server, Michelle. She was an absolute delight.
The food was very terrible. Their signature bolognese was a disgusting, flavourless and watery mess. You would be better off using a jar of Ragu and making your own. My partner was starving so he wouldn't let me complain but I really wanted too. The scallops were alright but only 3 for a meal is ridiculous. The quinoa salad it came with had veggies in it that you would buy in the frozen section at the grocery store. They didn't taste fresh at all. The steak was good at least.
I would not recommend this awful place to anyone. STAY AWAY.
No music on patio - shrimp dish tasted like mayo slopped on top of shrimp - Brussel side was underwhelming.
My friend and I had not seen each other for a while. So we required a little more time to chat make decisions etc our server was so patient. Everything was delicious. I had the breakfast sandwich with salmon and lobster it was amazing! Would recommend!!
I booked West Oak for a business dinner for clients who like to be in the thick of things with music and a lively atmosphere. Our server Michelle was great. Loved her vibe. Food was awesome. We ordered four share plates to start-beef carpaccio, calamari, chinois prawns, and fries (which were actually those extra large potato wedges). For mains two of my clients had salmon and I had the miso sablefish with maple glaze. All delicious. The only issue I had was that the evening started out in a disappointing and embarrassing way due to the hostess telling me that even though I had a reservation for dinner at 7pm, I'd have to wait outside for 20 minutes until the large party on the patio left. I reiterated that this was a business dinner and I had a 7pm reservation. The issue was resolved quickly and the evening was lovely. Note to the restaurant: when I add notes to my reservation it's important for the restaurant team to read it. I applauded their quick solution focused approach and I will return.
Our server was beautiful but she was not attentive. I know she was taking care of a party on the patio, but still it was 4:30 and wasn’t that busy.
We waited forever for her to even come to our table to offer us water.
I’ve been to this place several times and the food is not as good as it used be. I have zero desire to come back.
I understand bc of Covid everyone is short staffed. So maybe the service was hindered bc of that. The lamb lollipops were burnt and lacked taste.
Same with the beef patty. The pasta was good.
Nice Christmas Decor. Sat on patio, heaters on but cold draft every time door opened. Waitress had the personality of a fish and then tried to turn on the charm when the bill was being paid.
We checked the menu online before arriving, however we were told our selections were not available.. It seems the menu online is wrong- clearly states BRUNCH EVERY DAY.. however brunch is only available on weekends. Menu was much different. We chose this place based on the online menu.
As for my meal, I ended up selecting the beetroot hummus- this was absolutely flavorless. My friend had the taglietelle pomodoro and said it was average at best.
I won't be returning.
Great restaurant for celebrations and get-togethers. Booked for Happy Hour and was not disappointed. I highly recommend this restaurant and plan to return.
It was our first time there and we had an amazing experience from start to finish. Our server Christopher was fabulous, friendly and knowledgeable about menu items and very helpful. We were celebrating my birthday and it was just such a nice experience. We had such a good time and will definitely be returning next time we are downtown.
We enjoyed everything. Cocktails were good. We had seafood taratelle, risotto and seared scallops. We started with the prawns. Everything was delicious.
