My colleagues and I dined at West Oak on Friday March 22. On arrival, we were quick to notice our servers foul mood and attitude. At one stage, I saw him huffing and rolling his eyes when I wanted to order a drink - very unprofessional. It was as if we were bothering him by being there. He ruined our entire dining experience, which is a a shame as we were really looking forward to our evening.
We had a fab time as the food and environment were tremendous. The only downside was that the tables are so close that the neighbouring guests can hear your conversation. Sadly, our neighbours rudely interrupted our meal and conversation to express displeasure with our discussion. We thought this to be quite odd...we considered moving but didn't want to cave to their displeasure. So we continued in softer tones. When chatting beware of your neighbours !
We ordered medium rare steaks and they have us raw steaks. The drinks were watered down. The food is extremely overpriced considering they can't even make a proper steak.
I left disappointed
I thought the place was beautiful though.
Travis was an amazing and very attentive waiter! Food was delicious and filling too, although a bit too much sauce on the lamb shank ! Will come again !
Amazing food, service & price! Alison (Server with silver glasses) was absolutely fabulous! It was busy & right before happy hour ended. But she was able to get all of orders in and it’s was perfectly timed. Delicious food, drinks & atmosphere has a classy cool vibe.
Fantastic food, great service and very friendly people. Visiting from Calgary and loved it!
The pork tenderloin flavours were sublime. I will have it again as will my dining partner who had the lamb shank which was good just not as good. Great service and an inviting room.
Great restaurant and great food. Awesome for catching up with friends after work.
I've mad many lunch meetings here and will suggest many more. Amazing food and atmosphere.
Waiter was very good. We enjoyed the food and vibe very much - it’s been a favourite for many years. Always great service and amazing food!
ANumber 1 happy hour
I have been to West Oak before, quite a few times. The food is always amazing. We were a late reservation as we were waiting for my cousin to arrive from Victoria and she had some travel issues, so she was going to be later (Reservation was at 9:00pm, she arrived at 9:28. My husband and I were there on-time and we asked if we wanted a booth, which was nice. On other occasions the restaurant was more crowded and this was not an option. There were 2 corner booths but she sat us at the one next to the first corner. I wasn't uncomfortable, but my husband was cold...we also thought the corner both was better for 3 people, so we asked to move away from the front door, to the corner booth closest to the kitchen. She clearly did not want to move us saying that it was cold over there as well. My husband said he wanted to try it. She did let us move but it was reluctantly after a bit of verbal banter and no smiling. Well, we got an appetizer while we waited for my cousin (it was her birthday and I mentioned it in the reservation), which we split. The Chinois prawns which were amazing. I ordered a glass of wine & hubby ordered a beer. Gina finally arrived all stressed out from travel and we all ordered our mains. All 3 of us had the sablefish which was heavenly. And my cousin ordered the scallops as an appetizer which we ended up sharing. Also amazing. The girl that seated us came and told us she was leaving and that the bartender would be serving us the rest of the evening. The service got better after she left. We had another girl who was much more pleasant and a fellow as well (tall blonde with a must ache...said he was fairly new.) Please note we are fairly regular customers. We've brought other people in here for dinner and mentioned how good it was to other family and friends. I have left glowing reviews on Trip Advisor. I still have to give it 5 stars for the food which is always flawless, and after our first waitress left the service was fine. No mention of a birthday.
Travis was our server and he was phenomenal, giving both my girlfriend and me the best service for our belated Valentine’s Day night out. Highly appreciated the Valentines Cookies as well as the Polaroid picture from Maria as well. Unbelievable experience and can’t wait to come back soon. Thanks so much!
The food is middle of the road ok, nothing special. Sauces and tastes feel a little bland. It looks like a place for seeing and be seen, and perhaps grab some food along the way. It's noisy and, for the quality of the food, too expensive. Been there, done that.
West Oak has been our favorite restaurant in Yaletown for a long time. However last night, we noticed the quality of food was not as good & as tasty as the previous times. & the server was not friendly, which was a very low point. I hope the restaurant can work on their old good qualities again because we would love to go back again!
Great food and atmosphere.
We loved the food, our server was great, but the noise was just too much. It was lively and a Friday night, and we will go back, but probably midweek when it’s a little quieter.
Greg our waiter was wonderful!
We will definitely be going back. A great evening, great service and food including ambience!
The salad that 2 of us had was too small. Same price as the sandwiches, but a third of the value.
Love the ambiance and the food and service... we sat close to the door and it was really cold... they would another Temperatur Barriere
Enjoyed the food. Service was fabulous
We went for the happy hour menu and everything was absolutely delicious!
Had a fantastic evening celebrating a milestone birthday. Service was excellent -- we were greeted with "Happy birthday" when we arrived, then our server brought us champagne and, for dessert, remembered candles on our brownie. Food was delicious -- prawns chinois were amazing. Lamb shank & sablefish also excellent. Glad we discovered this gem!
Overall our dine out experience was great! The sable fish was one of the better ones I’ve had. Our server was attentive and friendly. We never felt rushed despite it being a very busy night.
My only complaints weee that it was quite loud which made it difficult for group conversation. It was also very crowded so our chairs would get bumped every few minutes.
I would definitely come back and recommend it to others!
Great food, great service, very enjoyable night to celebrate a girlfriends birthday. We didn’t want to leave!
Waitress went above and beyond by asking me if I want extra berry compote for my gelato because she saw me stealing some off my boyfriend’s dessert ☺️
Amazing as usual.... your servers are some of the best
And the cookies..WOW
I went for a dine out with my boyfriend. Unfortunately, the value of money for this deal was very poor. It’s pretty much going with their regular menu prices. Good atmosphere, great service, however , I would only rate it 3.6/5 in general
Good & friendly waiter, awesome food for brunch!
We will definitely go for a nice evening dinner.
Great service. The appetizer and entree were delicious but the dessert was rather simple and the sauce overpowered the panna cotta - it might as well have been plain panna cotta instead of vanilla bean. We were seated directly across from the bar with the large tv screens which detracted from the date night ambience we were hoping for. Lounge music played loudly l while the area where we sat had a sports bar feel. Felt like the place was trying to be an upscale restaurant, lounge, and sports bar all at the same time which was a little bit too much for our quiet evening out.
The food was great, as well as the decor and ambience. Would go again in a heartbeat.
I go to West Oak rather often as I work few blocks away. Their services are usually good, but this day, the four of us went for lunch and had to wait 45 minutes for our food. The tables who were next to us sat down after us, had their lunch and left before we were served. :(
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The food was outstanding
My girlfriend and I went to West Oak to try out their dine out offering recently. We had a reservation and were seated quickly as the restaurant was not busy when we arrived.
Our waiter came by quickly with menus and explained politely that both their regular menu and dine out options were available for the evening.
My girlfriend and I both decided to choose from the Dine Out choices. For starters we chose the Chinois Prawns and the Quinoa and Kabocha squash salad. The prawns were delicious with the home made spicy aioli sauce sprinkled with some candied walnut and sliced green onion - would definitely order them again. The salad came out as a large portion and the two of us couldn't quite finish it all - it was tasty, with ample quinoa, kabocha squash and goat cheese.
For entrees, we ordered the Sablefish and the braised lamb shank. Both were cooked perfectly although I would have liked the lamb served at a tad higher temperature - it might have sat a few minutes while the Sablefish was being cooked. The sablefish was of a beautiful texture and like good sablefish buttery and melt in your mouth. There were ample portions of sides served with the two entrees and both the ginger wild rice (sablefish) and sweet potato mash (lamb shank) were tasty. The portions overall were substantial and the food delicious.
For dessert we both ordered the panna cotta which came with a lovely cranberry compote. I really enjoyed the transition in flavours between the compote and the panna cotta.
We had both ordered wine with our meals and enjoyed glasses of white and red wine. We'd like to see a slightly larger wine by the glass selection and some more BC wine offerings.
Our server was polite and timed his visits to the table perfectly, our glasses of water were filled promptly and the timing between serving of food was ideal!
Other than that we look forward to returning to West Oak for another lovely meal.
Went here for dine out it was absolutely delicious!
so great to be there wether for brunch or dinner. Lobster Benedict from Brunch Menu is absolutely my fav.
Came here for our Wedding Anniversary. The staff was extremely warm and welcoming. They even provided us with a glass of complimentary champagne which was also very nice of them.
Went for dine out Vancouver 2019. Appies were good but mains not as much. Risotto dish was small. Def not what I was expecting and the lamb dish was bigger. What’s with that? 6.5/10
Service was amazing, we had very attentive, thoughtful, and interactive waitress. Food quality is great as well! Some sauce pairings for dishes were a bit too overpowering in flavour or a bit too sour for some (but easily solved with either avoiding the sauce or using less of it), but overall the dining experience was great!
