Our food was mostly great as was our experience. We questioned how many of the mussels were empty but were dismissed. Asked for help on size of charcuterie board but were not given any helpful info. Cocktails were delish but getting assistance with them was painful. Our server was quite condescending which perhaps was disguising a lack of knowledge. And it’s pretty loud; don’t go with more than four people. All that being said, I do think it’s a little gem in our city and hopefully they will work on their weak areas.
Thank you to the whole Woodwork team for making my birthday celebration a nice one. Special thanks to Nick and Dylan in the kitchen for going the extra mile <3
This was my first experience at Woodwork, but, it will not be the last. The service was excellent, and the server was very knowledgeable about the menu items.
Another one! Bangin’ new menu, crispy lamb belly, devil salad, fried green tomato w lobster, mussels, service, vibes, everything off the chain. Will be back again soon.
Workwork is always a great choice. The menu changes seasonally and it’s always delicious. I’ve never been disappointed.
When i travel to Edmonton its one of my favorite places
Made our reservation online and expressed in ‘special requests’ that this was our wedding anniversary. We arrived and were seated at a small table sandwiched between other tables and patrons. We were looking forward to a romantic dinner, but being seated so close to other people made for zero privacy and conversation. Felt like we were apart of the other tables which took away from the romantic aspect. Upon arrival, we did ask for an alternative option for seating, which was quickly denied.
Service was fine, although, not exceptionally warm. Food was inconsistent- two dishes were fantastic, however the pasta was really bland and lacked flavour. We went to Woodwork for our previous anniversary and walked away more than happy - food was outstanding, along with the service and location we were seated. It was disheartening to walk away disappointed the second time round.
Hi Robin, Thanks for the review. I apologize that we weren't able to put you at a large table, but the restaurant was completely full at that time. I believe you did move to a more secluded table when it opened up, but as our dining room is one large open room, there aren't a lot of private spaces to begin with. We appreciate the feedback about the service and the food, and will pass it along. Thanks again, WW
Had a wonderful time at Woodwork. Great food made fresh. Wonderful cocktails and whiskey selection. Will be back!!
Thanks for the kind words Robert! - WW
It was my second time dining here. The food is pretty high quality and they add a unique flair. Some of the portions are decent, while others seem to be small for the price charged. I do wish their drinks selection had a few more “affordable” drinks as the cheapest bottle of red wine was $60 (and there was only one bottle at that price. They ranged quite high above that). I had returned more bc of their food than their drinks as I had been impressed by their food the first time. Again, the food was delicious! The mussels had a spicy thai taste and were delicious but for a big bowl of mussels in lots of sauce, please provide more than 2 slices of bread (literally 2 slices for 5 people.) I preferred my steak tartare on my first visit as it has changed but did not taste as good with the dill. (Upon my first visit, I described it to friends as the best tartare in Edmonton). May return for appies again in the future bc the food is good, but the few wine options (even by the glass) may deter me from doing so since many of our friends prefer wine over cocktails (but their cocktails menu is extensive if that is your thing!)
We've been going to Woodwork for years, as usual the food is fantastic. I do have an iss
Amazing ambiance and I loved the appetizer menu.
I was skeptical when I saw the menu and heard that they just got a new chef - the menu looked more traditional, which sometimes translates to unimaginative (especially with 'mushroom pasta' as the vegetarian plate choice). However, I was very happy to admit to have been wrong, completely so - the food was absolutely delicious, and, honestly, better than ever. And, it still has the best cocktails in the city!
Who knew that a “Bar” could serve such creative and delicious dishes! Totally worth a visit.
Very nice atmosphere, service wasn't up to par by our server. Food when it came was ice cold. Will think twice on returning
Unfortunately, WoodWork let us down. It was our first time there and we were excited. The drinks were great but both steaks were horrible. After an hour and 15 mins wait we finally got the steaks and they were suppose to be medium rare but my butchers cut was well done and the other steak was rare. The lady who helped us asked if we wanted anything else but we didn't want to try anything else or wait any longer. We ended up leaving and not eating the food but thankfully she didn't charge us for those meals. She did say she had a new kitchen team so perhaps we will try the place again at a later time.
We had an amazing pre Citadel dinner here. The menu is unique and interesting. The service and the food were outstanding. Great Edmonton experience.
Drinks are always so inventive and well balanced. Food can be a hit or miss. Best to go for cocktails and have a few go-to food items that you know are good. But, will definitely keep coming back for the drinks and ambiance.
Great drinks, good meal, great service
Great food and service. Nice place for a date. Fantastic bar tenders with great drink menu.
After seeing the menu on Open Table, we were pretty excited to go for dinner. Right off the bat we were disappointed to see it was a completely different menu. We were told that they change the menu daily to ensure the freshest and most seasonal ingredients. I appreciate this concept very much, but perhaps they should mention it on Open Table. Instead they have a menu which is apparently “years old” and our server felt the need to bring her phone to the table to demonstrate the correct menu on their website. Honestly we didn’t think to check the website after making reservations - does anyone? A tad weird. Our starters were great. Truffle frites were on point. Crispy, cheesy and a wicked aioli for dipping. The cotecchino was a special treat. I’m Italian and this is a speciality for us. So delicious served with mustard greens with the perfect dressing and the home made sourdough bread. Sooooo yummy. Then things fell apart a little. We ordered the gnocchi with morel mushrooms. It’s not quite clear to me what came out to our table. It was literally a mushy mess. I liked the concept. It was meant to be a cheese stuffed gnocchi but the gnocchi dough was mushy and undercooked. It just tasted like raw dough around cheese. We could not eat it. The restaurant was kind enough to take it off our bill. Dessert was not much better. White chocolate mousse with cinnamon rhubarb on graham crumbs served with a raspberry marshmallow. Again a great concept but the mousse was firm - not at all fluffy and smooth. Overall a beautiful space, great playlist and some other dishes that came out of the kitchen looked great. I would definitely go back for the cotechino and drinks.
Thanks for the reply, Anon. This is the first we've heard that OpenTable is listing an old menu of ours. We will be fixing that immediately. Thanks for bringing it to our attention, and that for your other feedback about the dishes. Hopefully you'll try us again sometime. - MGMT
The service and food were absolutely outstanding. We will definitely be back!!!
We came for a special occasion, having never been before. We found the tables too close together to enjoy any kind of private dining experience. I ordered beef, and though it was tasty, I had to leave half of it on the plate because it was very grissled and fatty. The dessert was fine. There were some good elements, but overall I can’t say that my meal was good enough to return.
This was my second time here and it did not disappoint once again. Great atmosphere, amazing food and top tier service. Can be as casual or high end as you want. The cocktails are perfection. I will continue to take newcomers to the city here.
Thanks so much Anon for the kind words
Birthday celebration. Friendly service. Great food
Menu was limited and pricey. Wine list was also expensive at $80 for cheapest red wine most were $120-$170 . No coffee available for after supper we were informed they do cocktails instead. Noise level was high at times we were yelling at each other for conversation. Not the best night out for the money spent would not recommend for an evening out
Waiter gave great recommendations and new the food and drink menu very well. Food was 10/10
Woodwork never disappoints! Our server, who is on his way to becoming a sommelier, was knowledgeable, intuitive and friendly. The food was excellent - the buttermilk and herb fried chicken was amazing! I had the El Diablo, which turned into two. We were able to have great conversation, as the the noise level was not disruptive. It is always a treat to visit Woodwork!
Service was very slow.
Another great night at Woodwork!
My favourite place for high quality interesting food. They keep there menu interesting and seasonal. Changing it often. The cocktails are always top notch. Atmosphere is intimyamd cozy class.
Highly recommend for a downtown spot.
Loved our return visit ... enjoy the limited menu concept ... tapas style apps and small plates.
Wouldn’t mind an better variety of reds ... price point is fine but grape variety is limited. Also ... update the website as you update the menus!
Other than those observations ... keep working this hard and we will return!!!
The restaurant wasn’t busy but there was no hostess at the front to seat people properly .
The front door the restaurant is very cold with the door and opening and closing
Would love an espresso at the end of a great meal.
Not very attentive service. Ran out of several dishes. This happens but would have been better if they told us at the outset what was of the menu rather than playing 20 questions.
Cocktails were good. Food was good but extremely small portions. Very expensive for what we got.
1 appetizer (2 sausage patties sizes of Denny's with 2 slices of bread) = $16
1 salad (1 endive and 1 beet cut up with sauce) =$19
1 order of gnocchi (20 gnocchi in sauce) =$29
Grand total =$94
The food was excellent. I do find it a little pricy.
Super loud, very difficult to hear the party you were with from synthetic noise. Server was pleasant. The drinks were interesting, albeit pricey. The real disappointment was the portions for the price they are charging. 4 pieces of pasta for $33 with cut up asparagus seemed pretty ridiculous. It was tasty, but felt more of an appetizer, leaving us venturing to another venue later that evening to feel satisfied. Not a very strong impression, made a celebratory event finish on a low note.
Excellent all around good choice for any occasion.
Nice restaurant, excellent drink selection, good service, and tasty food. My only issue... While the portion sizes for the "small plate" and the dessert were good, the "large plate" felt a little small, especially considering the price. Also, not sure if this is an Open Table issue or not, but when you make your reservation and the Open Table app asks you if it's for a special occasion, it's a little disappointing when there is no followthrough by the restaurant.
We found the food to be quite expensive and not worth the price. The gnocchi that I ordered was quite a small portion and came with absolutely no sides or any accompaniments. My boyfriend’s steak was extremely underdone - he ordered it medium rare and at least a third of the steak was barely even rare. It was red and not even pink in the middle...it was bordering on blue rare in spots.
For a high caliber restaurant, we would expect an expensive cut of meat to be prepared as ordered. The restaurant has a beautiful ambience and was quite charming, however, we definitely were not impressed with either or our meals.
The sticky toffee pudding that we had for dessert was delicious and was certainly a more appropriate portion size.
