Best restaurant experience in Calgary consistently.
Food was beyond our expectations. We chose the 3-course chef's tasting menu paired with beverages. So delicious!!!
Food was excellent. The little sample they gave us was kind of un-impressive, but we ordered the three course special. everything in that special was excellent.
the main was the best, then the Appy, then the dessert.
I found the seating to be a little tight actually, not a lot of space between us and other people. I could clearly hear conversations on either side.
Tables were narrow.
Staff was knowledgable. I never had to ask for more water, and that's important because that was all I was drinking. Parking can be a bit tricky, but that is downtown Calgary for you.
Overall, a great experience, worth the money and time
Great food, especially the salads but the coffee was not so good.
The food was amazing!! I could have stopped after the appetizers and thank god I didn't because the main course was just as outstanding as well. Will be definitely going back again.
Monday’s are amazing. We all did the five course with wine pairing. Visionary food, exceptional service, clever wine pairings.
My boyfriend and I went for dinner Saturday evening with a couple visiting from Europe and everyone enjoyed the meal very much! We all had tasting menu with drinks pairing (we chose 3 instead of 5) and everything was fantastic. The wines and dessert cocktail were very unique and tasty. Each course was presented beautifully and tasted as great as it looked. It is also worth noting the building and decor are very cool as some of the original features of the old theater have been maintained. The prices are a bit high, but for special occasions it is definitely worth it!
Food, service great.
Food was exquisite. Half of our group did the improv menu, and half ordered a la cartel and both received rave reviews.
Such a cool setting - inside the old Grand Theatre.
Music was loud but they turned it down a bit when asked.
And, we had birthdays in our group and all the staff signed cards!
Just a wonderful experience all around and I can’t wait to come back.
Great food very accommodating made a 3 course vegetarian menu for our daughter when requested a few days before
Four of our group had the 5 course tasting menu and every course was beautifully presented, unique tasting and perfectly cooked. We especially enjoyed the duck breast and lamb courses. The wine pairings were well done. The other 2 of our group had the roast chicken and added a starter of roasted cauliflower and a side of gnocchi. Everyone left full (and impressed) with both the quality of food and the service. Our server Bobby was first-class.
Our only negative comment is the stools at our table were not very comfortable. Better chair pads for us senior citizens would be appreciated!
This is not a restaurant for anyone looking for a cheap night out. We all felt the price reflects the overall experience, and highly recommend this restaurant. We will be back!
Top notch food, service, and drinks. It was our first time there and we will be back!!
One of the best meals my husband and I have ever had - probably the best in Calgary. Went for our 20 year anniversary and we were very well taken care of by Bobby. He suggested a fabulous bottle of wine and explained the menu. We decided to go with the 5 course Improv - each dish was a surprise when it arrived. Each course was fantastic. Hubby asked if it would be rude to lick the plate on a few of them! I said yes! The fourth course was cheese and a bit heavy after the first three but still yummy. Excellent portions. Definitely on the more expensive side but well worth it for a special occasion. Highly recommend!
Always an amazing meal when dining at Workshop! The cocktails are always interesting and seasonal (as are the mocktails), wine recommendations are spot on every time. Regardless if you order from the menu or having enjoying the Improv the food will always be creative, beautifully crafted and plated. Service is always excellent, and the small touches like a lint roller at front means they truly think about the customer's experience.
Fantastic well balanced 5 course tasting menu. Unique and one of the best meals we’ve ever had. Very good value and food portions.
Outstanding! This is a must have experience for foodies. We did the five-course chef selection with pairings. Everything was perfection! Congrats to head chef Jess for such attention to detail. Thanks to Alex who socialized with us the entire time he was busy preparing everyone’s food. And I can’t believe I cannot remember our server’s name because she as well went above and beyond.
We really thought the food scene was over in Calgary. Thank you to Workshop for proving us wrong! On a scale of 1 to 10 Workshop is an 11!
One of our favourite restaurants in the city. Would recommend to anyone - including anyone with a food allergy. My uncle is allergic to eggs, and they were able to easily adjust one of our favourite dishes (scallops) to accommodate. Thanks!
Great service, amazing food & cool atmosphere. Came in for my birthday & the entire team signed a birthday card... attention and consideration like that doesn’t happen often and it was very special.
We talked about how good the meal was after we left and even again the next day!
The improv menu was great! Service was typical. Great ambiance.
I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a super cool lively unique place to eat. The food never disappoints and the service is always outstanding. My favourite is that not only are the dishes spectacular looking, but they taste even better than they look. The 25 dollar lunch menu is a better lunch than anywhere else in the city hands down. It’s also a fantastic place to go with friends in the evening so you can get a bunch of dishes and share. The ambience is really cool and unique to anything else in Calgary. It’s very NYC like.
Everything was delicious!! Gnocchi was probably the best I've ever had!
excellent service, great atmosphere and wonderful food. I suspect this will become a semi-regular (2-3 times per year) date night location for us.
With the menu setup you never get tired of the same old things, but they are always there if you are not feeling experimental.
It is by no means cheap, but depending on your budget I would say the cost is fair for a nice date night, ~$80-120 per person including drinks and tip.
Très belle découverte. Faut essayer le menu 5 services, avec les vins qui accompagnent
Nous avons adoré, excellent et portions parfaites
Everything about Workshop is great and the food is AMAZING! I have been a number of times and never had a bad experience.
Food was Ok...nothing special
outstanding experience, two of us did the the 3 course menu and enjoyed the selections, very large portions, service was excellent
This was a wonderful experience. Our server was professional and very friendly, answering all of our questions with enthusiasm. The meal was exceptional! And for a truly wonderful time, the entire staff signed an anniversary card for us!
My best meal experience in Calgary. Perhaps all time. The service is perfect. Friendly, efficient and you feel like the staff really wants to be there. For as sophisticated as the food is, the atmosphere is casual and non pretentious.
Decor is neat and the open kitchen is great if you enjoy watching the chefs work.
Unfortunately the fish was overmarinated and watery texture so could not eat it. Did give the feedback and waiter took off one glass of wine but claimed that was how chef served it. Left feeling very disappointed as when you are paying $55/per person expectations are high and would expect quality of food to be outstanding.
Great food & service. Very noisy
The food and restaurant in general was fabulous. My only complaint was the the high cost. But the food ad service was excellent.
Dinner was creative and superb. A wonderful find for celebrating our anniversary in a different country while traveling.
We had the Lougheed Lunch(?). Best ribs I have ever had.
Had the tasting menu on no menu mondays. Out of the 5 dishes and 5 paired drinks I found most of the food to be subpar.
Most of the dishes totally missed the mark.
For example, Chicken liver pate as an appetizer is not a good idea.
Chinese fried rice with slices of overcooked sirloin on top was also a failure.
Presentation of these things was also not up to par. If I was the chef I would have been embarassed to serve this food to patrons.
This restaurant lives up to its reviews. The food and service are BOTH phenomenal. I am both gluten and dairy free...eating out is always a challenge for me. Workshop was up to the challenge! They are incredibly accommodating. Our waitress, Jennifer, ensured I knew about all my food options, and there were a good many. She went back to check with the kitchen to confirm they could accommodate me and my dietary needs a number of times. I felt very confident that I really was getting help, not just lip-service. The food tasted fabulous! Then, dessert arrived and they gave me a plate of sorbet. I am sure it was lovely sorbet, but if you are gluten and dairy free, sorbet is the go-to dish to get served. It gets old fast. I told Jennifer that I challenge the chef to come up with a more interesting dessert for others like me in the future. She immediately whipped the sorbet off the table and took it back, announcing she would get something better for me! She came back in a little while with a freshly baked slice of chocolate cake, topped with a gorgeous berry compote, almond brittle and meringue!!! It was, quite simply, the best meal I have eaten in years. I am ever so grateful. You are missing out if you hvae not eaten here. Go. You will be so glad you did!
We had such a great experience at The Workshop. There were 4 of us in our group and we chose to have the 5 course meal. Everything was exceptional and we were so excited to see the dinner unfold. Our waiter was Bobby and he was awesome. It was a perfect Birthday and we were so happy to have a card from the caring folks who made our night exceptional. We will be back again for certain.
Website for Workshop indicated there was a happy hour and we showed to waiter but manager would not recognize this and did not even come to the table. One lady had to pay $19 for a glass of wine - way over priced !
The food was very good, but I thought the service we received was even better.
Overall, an OK experience but, given the prices, would have expected more in terms of food quality/quantity. Have been to the Workshop Kitchen on other occasions and feel it has dropped off in standard of food and service.
Had the 3-course "surprise" dinner menu and could not be happier with the choice. I am a picky eater, so not big on surprises when it comes to food, but everything tasted delicious. The server carefully noted my friend's and my dietary restrictions and the chef modified the courses accordingly. Very happy with the result! Service was great, local draft beer (Ryes Against the Machine) definitely worth having.
