What a hit! Literally all seven of our group absolutely loved our lunch time experience! We all have already recommended WORKSHOP to soo many people, and some have already made plans to return to enjoy a date night with a screening in the theatre and dinner. I hope they are around for a long time, so that I can keep enjoying and bring new people to this great find!! Perfect
This was our last restaurant after a long week of meetings and was also by far the best place we ate at, hands down. We actually ordered every appetizer and side on the menu with 5 types of meat (all between 5 people).
There was some leftovers but we would do it all over again. Fantastic food. Very well prepared.
Cool space, was not busy mid week. Tasting menu was interesting, you can ask what courses are. Or leave it a surprise and they did accommodate food intolerances. Overall good experience I do think was a bit over priced for portions.
Bobby was an amazing host and was very friendly and explained the improv meals to us and accommodated a gluten free course meal. Food was very good and we stayed well past the closing time which we weren’t aware of because we were not rushed to leave and let us enjoy our time. Would definitely some back again
meal was excellent, was expensive that's why I say for special occasion.
Excellent service, tasty food. We were there just as the new menu came out. Shared two starters (pork schnitzel, a good sized serving, and duck confit pyrogies, you get three) and two smaller mains - striploin and lamb saddle. All cooked perfectly and very tasty. The mains also had green veggies as garnish (thankfully as I am NOT on the keto diet!) which were also nicely prepared and presented. Our side was the triple cooked potato wedges - lovely light as a cloud potato surrounded by a crisp finish. The dip for the potatoes was good but I preferred the potatoes without the dip. Your option! Shared the carrot cake to finish and I only intended to have one bite but it was amazing so couldnt help but have more. It's rich so a full serving could be too much but I defy anyone to have only one bite! We will be back to try the improv dinner menu soon.
We celebrated my husband’s birthday and the food, service and acknowledgement was greatly appreciated. The staff topped our desserts with a candle and signed a card for him. The food was exceptional and the service was on point! Great job and we will be back again soon!
We were so impressed by the incredible service and loved the tasting menu! Our server Bobby was very personable, knowledgeable with wine and went the extra mile to make us comfortable and satisfied. We will be raving until we make it back!
Only ever had the 3 course improv dinner and it's a great way to dine if you are adventurous. Great food, great service.
The pork belly lunch was amazing..... Had lunch with a few business associates and it was great
The food was flavorful and beautifully prepared. I have only been there for lunch but it has been exceptional every single time. My friend had the Lougheed Lunch - a seafood curry and it was excellent. My dish was the steelhead trout and it was cooked to perfection. This is my favorite restaurant in Calgary.
Food came out just a little slower than we would have liked but our server was lovely and the whole experience was amazing, as always!
We picked Workshop because we had an outstanding experience there before. It was our daughter‘s 18th birthday & everyone made it a special evening. Thank you to Bobby, wine specialist, who is so attentive, knowledgeable & kind.
The food is outstanding, with local ingredients & the menu changes every day. We always get the five course chef’s choice which is the best way to go & very reasonable. We added wine/beverage pairings to each course which were well suited to every plate of food.
The staff make us feel comfortable & the ambience is well suited to conversation.
We’ll keep coming back! Thanks, Workshop :-)
Excelente service and good location :D
The food was excellent - the Arctic char was cooked perfectly & the service was friendly & attentive.
Excellent food! It was a bit loud during the rush but a great meal made that a non issue!
Workshop never fails to impress. The flavours are outstanding and they always manage to transform regular produce into mouthwatering dishes. Our server was attentive without being intrusive, and was VERY generous with water. The staff here know what they are doing and do it with skill and expertise. Perfect for a casual Friday lunch.
We arrived early and were informed by the hostess that there was no bar to have a drink at the restaurant while we waited for our table to be ready. The restaurant was mostly vacant, and had only two tables that were being served at the time of our arrival.
So we left and went two blocks to grab a drink elsewhere. When we returned we were sat at a booth table, that other parties could join, that was vacant when we had arrived previously. As it was date night, I asked the hostess if we could sit somewhere else that was more intimate, and was informed that the table was reserved for a 10 year anniversary. We were not offered any other private tables that were vacant the entire time we were in the restaurant.
The restaurant was not busy, but both of our hot appetizers arrived at our table cold. My entree was luke warm, and my husband’s fish was over cooked. They took my appetizer off of the bill. As our server was great, we left him a 20% tip, but we left feeling disappointed by our dining experience.
Absolutely perfect for impressing a critical business partner
The service right from the front entrance is superb. Meal was excellent and service was great. Didn't have to wait too long for our meals which is great when you are on a business lunch. Highly recommend.
Best restaurant experience in Calgary consistently.
Upon arrival (11:50am) the hostess asked us to sit and wait until 12:00pm (the time of our reservation) until we could be seated. I’ve never had this happen to me. I usually try to be early as we were meeting 3 clients. Then our clients were early and the 5 of us had to wait even though our table was ready. This did not start our experience off on the right foot. Then we had two different servers coming to our table to tell us the same thing because one had her section wrong. Our drinks took quite a while but after we received them the food was great and our server was attentive after a while.
Food was beyond our expectations. We chose the 3-course chef's tasting menu paired with beverages. So delicious!!!
Food was excellent. The little sample they gave us was kind of un-impressive, but we ordered the three course special. everything in that special was excellent.
the main was the best, then the Appy, then the dessert.
I found the seating to be a little tight actually, not a lot of space between us and other people. I could clearly hear conversations on either side.
Tables were narrow.
Staff was knowledgable. I never had to ask for more water, and that's important because that was all I was drinking. Parking can be a bit tricky, but that is downtown Calgary for you.
Overall, a great experience, worth the money and time
Great food, especially the salads but the coffee was not so good.
The food was amazing!! I could have stopped after the appetizers and thank god I didn't because the main course was just as outstanding as well. Will be definitely going back again.
Monday’s are amazing. We all did the five course with wine pairing. Visionary food, exceptional service, clever wine pairings.
My boyfriend and I went for dinner Saturday evening with a couple visiting from Europe and everyone enjoyed the meal very much! We all had tasting menu with drinks pairing (we chose 3 instead of 5) and everything was fantastic. The wines and dessert cocktail were very unique and tasty. Each course was presented beautifully and tasted as great as it looked. It is also worth noting the building and decor are very cool as some of the original features of the old theater have been maintained. The prices are a bit high, but for special occasions it is definitely worth it!
Food, service great.
Food was exquisite. Half of our group did the improv menu, and half ordered a la cartel and both received rave reviews.
Such a cool setting - inside the old Grand Theatre.
Music was loud but they turned it down a bit when asked.
And, we had birthdays in our group and all the staff signed cards!
Just a wonderful experience all around and I can’t wait to come back.
Great food very accommodating made a 3 course vegetarian menu for our daughter when requested a few days before
Four of our group had the 5 course tasting menu and every course was beautifully presented, unique tasting and perfectly cooked. We especially enjoyed the duck breast and lamb courses. The wine pairings were well done. The other 2 of our group had the roast chicken and added a starter of roasted cauliflower and a side of gnocchi. Everyone left full (and impressed) with both the quality of food and the service. Our server Bobby was first-class.
Our only negative comment is the stools at our table were not very comfortable. Better chair pads for us senior citizens would be appreciated!
This is not a restaurant for anyone looking for a cheap night out. We all felt the price reflects the overall experience, and highly recommend this restaurant. We will be back!
Top notch food, service, and drinks. It was our first time there and we will be back!!
One of the best meals my husband and I have ever had - probably the best in Calgary. Went for our 20 year anniversary and we were very well taken care of by Bobby. He suggested a fabulous bottle of wine and explained the menu. We decided to go with the 5 course Improv - each dish was a surprise when it arrived. Each course was fantastic. Hubby asked if it would be rude to lick the plate on a few of them! I said yes! The fourth course was cheese and a bit heavy after the first three but still yummy. Excellent portions. Definitely on the more expensive side but well worth it for a special occasion. Highly recommend!
Always an amazing meal when dining at Workshop! The cocktails are always interesting and seasonal (as are the mocktails), wine recommendations are spot on every time. Regardless if you order from the menu or having enjoying the Improv the food will always be creative, beautifully crafted and plated. Service is always excellent, and the small touches like a lint roller at front means they truly think about the customer's experience.
Fantastic well balanced 5 course tasting menu. Unique and one of the best meals we’ve ever had. Very good value and food portions.
Outstanding! This is a must have experience for foodies. We did the five-course chef selection with pairings. Everything was perfection! Congrats to head chef Jess for such attention to detail. Thanks to Alex who socialized with us the entire time he was busy preparing everyone’s food. And I can’t believe I cannot remember our server’s name because she as well went above and beyond.
We really thought the food scene was over in Calgary. Thank you to Workshop for proving us wrong! On a scale of 1 to 10 Workshop is an 11!
One of our favourite restaurants in the city. Would recommend to anyone - including anyone with a food allergy. My uncle is allergic to eggs, and they were able to easily adjust one of our favourite dishes (scallops) to accommodate. Thanks!
Great service, amazing food & cool atmosphere. Came in for my birthday & the entire team signed a birthday card... attention and consideration like that doesn’t happen often and it was very special.
We talked about how good the meal was after we left and even again the next day!
The improv menu was great! Service was typical. Great ambiance.
