Had cocktails and appetizers for a large party (14) on a Friday night from 4:30 - 6:45. They were able to accommodate us even though it was restaurant week. Really good cocktails and beer selection, excellent service, good ambiance, and the appetizers were very good. Overall a great send-off for one of our staff.
Zola is visually a very chic restaurant, however while dining there I was highly disappointed. Despite making reservations, we still had to wait. Once seated, it took a long time for our drinks to be served. They serve very small portions, for example I ordered scallops as an appetizer to share and only recieved 1 single scallop. A few bites into my entree and I pulled out a hair.. eww. My friend who accompanied me had to remind the waiter to serve his salad, which we did not receive until after the entrees had been served. Also, seemed understaffed as the waiter was also bartending and seemed completely out of sorts. Would not recommend unless you don’t mind small portions, long wait times, and potential error in orders.
Seated 25 minutes late for reservation. Kitchen was slow
Tasty food options. Tables are close together so cozy and loud, but very energetic feeling.
While our service was much worse than usual, the staff comped one of our two meals to make up for the bad service. That was a nice gesture and will keep us coming back.
Food was excellent and very unique. The butternut squash ravioli was awesome. There was some confusion about what we ordered because a nearby table had ordered almost the same thing, but the staff was very friendly and took care of it real quickly. I would say that was just a small blip in a great experience.
Note: We were there as part of Ann Arbor Restaurant Week so we had a special menu and pricing.
Lovely space with contemporary decor. Imaginative small plates. Pleasant service.
Arguably the best menu options for restaurant week. Everything was wonderful looking forward to coming back
Great coffee. The Zola crepe (basil, mozzarella and tomato) was soggy on bottom and crispy on top. I ended up eating the tomato and mozzarella without the buckwheat shell. It definitely needed way, way more basil. I’ll come again but will try something else next time!
Very disappointed! The drinks were weak and nearly tasteless. The mojito lacked the usual flavors. The Manhattan was quite bland with the only discerning flavor being too sweet. The food did not save the day either. The scallops were over cooked & a very small portion for the money. The service was poor and not attentive given the place was nearly empty. We used to be Zola regulars & will now choose other restaurants after this experience.
Food was very good. Prepared and presented well. Dining area was very crowded(tables literally only 18 in apart), noisy and too warm to be comfortable.
Slow service, even the drink order took a while. Food is just ok. The bistro is close to home and the food is not the same-old-thing. Perhaps some-old-thing is not so bad.
The food was fantastic. I had Grilled Ottoman Medley — the food all cooked perfectly, the flavors were great, and the portions were just right. I’ve been to Zola’s cafe and bistro many times. This visit was exceptional because we had the best server that I’ve ever had at Zola’s resturant —- and perhaps one of the best servers that I’ve had anywhere in some considerable time. If you go to Zola’s Bistro ask for Hayley — she is the best!
Good food They take good care of us
I would recommend Zola Bistro with the qualification that it is very noisy and so it’s difficult to enjoy the conversation with your companions. The price of a cup of coffee is $4.50! The highest in town.
The food and service were excellent! Try the crab cakes, Sesame Encrusted Thai Chicken Satay (our personal favorite), Market Salad, and Penne in Chianti Sauce with Sweet Italian Sausage.
Food was fine, but overpriced. Vegetables weren't cooked especially well.
We never got our table because it was so overbooked that there weren't any tables available. We weren't the only ones...several people had to leave.
Waited 30 minutes for our dinner order. Waitress disappeared for a long time. Had to contact two mangers during our visit. I won’t be coming to Social hour again for a long time unless I just want a drink.
Went for brunch. Menu was extensive. Many delicious sounding choices. Food was very tasty. Only bad experience was the service. $7 matcha latte was served luke warm. When I asked for a substitute for fries I was told I could have fruit or a salad and when I got my bill I found out the side salad was a $5 upcharge without being warned. We ordered a dessert crepe with our order. The waitress never checked to see of we wanted anything else after our initial meal was served and did not come back until she presented the bill which did not include our dessert order so we never got to try what we had anticipated. Otherwise we enjoyed the food we did get to try.
Warning! Hostess said “Oh, I’m far too busy to check Open Table”. Beware!! Best to call for a reservation instead of doing it here!! (She did honor the O.T. Reservation)..
Wait to get to the hostess stand to claim our reservation took over 15 minutes and we were not given priority over others who didn’t have a reservation.
Zola has the best huevos rancheros in town. That it is always busy attests to the quality of their food and service. I have been going here since they opened and have never been disappointed. Also they have great bacon and toast.
The appetizers were fine but neither of our main courses were good at all. The pasta special was a disaster and we sent it back. The home made pasta was all stuck together and dreadfully undercooked.
I would not return.
Great Breakfast as always! Love this place. When it’s just the 2 of us we like to sit at they bar.
The brunch menu has plenty of choices. We had no problem finding something for everyone. The food and service were excellent. Definitely a great place for brunch.
We invited our Guest Presenter to lunch and selected this restaurant. It is always one of the top places I recommend for out of town folks.
Took a very long time to get food and bill. Was a Wednesday and seemed busy for lunch so possibly wasn’t enough staff on hand
Only complaint was that the hostess was busing tables, which meant a long wait just because tables weren’t cleared yet.
We used to love Zola’s! We had a reservation for 5 for a birthday for brunch. We had very poor service. We were seated and not given silverware. We were served our coffee and tea, still no silverware. We requested silverware, still no silverware! By time we received it our coffee was cold. Our food was lukewarm. Our server was not attentive - no drink refills, no ketchup, no syrup! Everything was cold before we received what we needed. It was incredibly crowded and noisy and staff seemed overwhelmed. We spent over $100 and got lukewarm food and poor service! I was very disappointed!
I like Cafe Zola and Zola Bistro also used to be good. But unfortunately the service is slow. It took the hostess 10 minutes just to come back to talk to me. They seem to be regular understaffed and the staff is occasionally not very kind.
Yummy breakfast as usual. Great service, and with a 9 AM arrival we just beat the Sunday breakfast crowds.
Booked through OpenTable specifying food allergies. Hostess was aware of and attentive to reported food allergies. We told our server of those food allergies and placed an order for an appetizer. She assured us that what we ordered would be OK based on the food allergies we reported, but when the food arrived, it failed on two very obvious points. Frustrated, we went through the exercise again, repeating the review of food allergies and ordered another appetizer so everyone in our group would be able to have something to eat. As the appetizer arrived, it failed on one obvious point. While the cocktails were absolutely delicious, we had ZERO CONFIDENCE in our server and did not trust her or the kitchen staff to accurately process our allergy concerns. So we left without ever getting dinner. Extremely disappointing!!! Food allergies are nothing to mess with, people. If you can't get it straight, you have no business being in this business!!!!!
Great pre game breakfast .. a little pricey but the quality and intresting menu is a big hit !!!!
All 3 of us loved our meals. Service was perfect! Restaurant was clean and modern.
Food was delicious! Grilled vegetable plate was amazing! My wife loved her salmon as I loved my swordfish! Our waitress Jessica was fantastic! She was super nice and personable! Can’t wait to go back!
enjoyed a nice night on the patio with a good draft beer and delicious thin crust pizza
We eat brunch at the Bistro almost every Saturday. My latest favorite dish is smoked salon Benedict, which have spinach with the smoked salmon, Enlish muffin, poached eggs, and sauce. yum! The smoked salmon omelet is great, too, as is he Southwest omelet. The lunch menu, with sandwiches and salads is very good, and the dinners are, too. My favorite place to Eaton Ann Arbor.
This place was recommended by a work colleague who used to live in Ann Arbor. We were looking for a great breakfast place to meet some friends, and it did not disappoint. We all ended up sharing bites of one another's food, and they were all delicious.
I had the Farmhouse Omelette, and the onions and peppers on it were grilled perfectly. My wife had the Nutella Banana Crepe, which is usually her go to option when we go anywhere that serves it and she loved it. Our friends had the Strawberry Banana Waffle and the Southwestern Omelette and they both really enjoyed it.
Good-sized portions and everything was made very well. We'd definitely go back if we are ever in Ann Arbor again.
